Chapter 6
The next morning, Ira woke up, feeling really exhausted. Was it the milk she had the night before? Was it the tremor she experienced the night before? Perhaps it was the tremor. Ira got up, swinging her legs over the side of her bed. Keeping her tired, she went to get herself dressed, as the T.V. remained on in her room. After getting ready, she went into the kitchen, seeing Kuki feeding Ivanov. "hi baby". Kuki said, gently, as Ivanov swallowed his yogurt. "hi". Ira said, sitting down. "Are you ok, honey?". "did you sleep ok?". Kuki asked. "yeah, I...I feel kind of tired, though". Ira said. "I still feel afraid I'm going to get hurt". "nothing will happen, sweetie". Kuki said, gently. "I love you, and I would never let anything happen to you". "ok". Ira said, getting out some milk to drink. Ivanov made the "more" sign, as he swallowed his other bit of yogurt. "one more, and then we have to get ready". Kuki gently reminded. "Are you ok?". "would you like some breakfast?". Kuki asked, as Ira sat down. "no, I'm fine". Ira said, sitting by Ivanov. "um…um…is it ok if I talk to you about something?". Ira asked. "of course, although if it's about Mushi, remember she's part of the family". "we have to be callous with her". Kuki said. "no, um…I kind of…I kind of still feel sad after last night's flashback". Ira said. "I feel like I'm going to get hurt, or I want to hurt myself". "It's ok, sweetie". Kuki said, brushing Ira slightly with her backhand.
"we still have medicine in there to help with daytime tremors, from Children's". Kuki said, gently. "I think you should take some". "will it hurt me?". Ira asked. "it'll help calm you a little bit". Kuki said. "it helps relieve stress, and promote relaxing thoughts". "ok, I guess". Ira said. "let's try it". Kuki said. Ivanov noised, making the "more" sign. "wait one minute, ok". Kuki said, stroking his face. She then got Alanser medication for Ira, putting the liquid in a small cup for her to drink. "It'll be ok". Kuki said, stroking Ira's face. "I hope". Ira said. "I just…I'm really scared right now". "you'll be fine". Kuki assured. "the medicine will help you to be calm". "ok". Ira said, drinking the small cup with blue liquid in there. Kuki kissed her on the cheek. "I'm so happy for you". "thank you". Ira said. Kuki then fed Ivanov more yogurt as he noised. "eeee". "eeee". "eee". He pointed. "let's eat our yogurt". Kuki instructed gently. Wally came in, holding Nalana.
"how's everyone doin?". "how's my amazing bestie doin?". He asked. "she was having some trouble, so we got her some medicine, huh?". Kuki stroked Ira's head. "yeah, I…I felt like I was going to get hurt again". Ira said. "you'll be fine, girlie". Wally said, ruffling Ira's hair. "we're here for you". "I know". Ira said. "eee". "eeee". "eee". Ivanov reached his hand up to say hello to Wally. "hey, buddy". Wally said, ruffling Ivanov's hair. "did you finish all your yogurt?". "yeah, you did". "you're a champ". Ivanov then took his bottle, drinking his milk. "I spotted your family out there in the driveway". Wally said. "mmm". Kuki said. "they came pretty early". "my appointment isn't until 10". "I don't know why they always show up early to things".
"mmm, your parents can get pretty $$$ed about showing up on time". Wally said. "mm, yeah". Kuki said, as Ivanov finished his yogurt. The sound of the door opening could be heard, as Kani and Genki made their way in. "hey". Kuki said, feeding Ivanov the last bit of his yogurt. "hey". Genki said, coming in. Ira turned around, seeing Genki. "how is my precious girl?". Genki said, hugging Ira. "I'm ok". "I…I had something to eat so, that was good". Ira said. "that's wonderful". Genki smiled. "I'm glad you're doing so well". "yeah, me too". Ira said. "I didn't hear you come in". Kuki said. "we just came in through the front, as it was unlocked". Genki said. "we didn't put a security system in for that, yet". Kuki said. "it still looks good". Genki said. Ivanov raised his hands up, saying hi to her. "hello, my amazing young man". "how are you?". "eee". "eee". "eeee". Ivanov raised his hands up, noising. "you look absolutely charming". Genki said, stroking Ivanov's face. "so, sweetheart". Genki sat down in front of Ira, as Ira drank some more of her milk. "how are things?". "have you been doing well?".
Ira put her milk back on the table, then looking down at her feet. "kind of". Ira said. "that's good". Genki said. "anything going on, you'd like to discuss?". "how have you been feeling?". "not great". Ira said. "why is that?". Genki asked, as Ira glanced downward. Ira's eyes looked beautiful and round. "I had a flashback". Ira said. "I tried hurting myself, because I thought it was my fault my foster father tried to kill himself". "I feel scared still, even after it was over". Genki stroked Ira's face, softly. "when did this flashback happen?". Genki asked. "yesterday when I came home from being at Marie's". Ira said. "hmmm". "sweetheart, it's quite alright". Genki said. "sometimes, we experience episodes even after something traumatic has happened". "so,… um…I…I um". Ira said, feeling another cry coming on. "it's nothing to be scared of". Genki said, gently. "it happens after a trauma". "have you been taking your medicine?". "yeah". "Kuki gave me some this morning". Ira said. "that's wonderful". Genki smiled. "mmm, did you tell her about the fellowship you got after you made that presentation?". Kuki asked, sitting down.
"yeah, I got a fellowship after I made my presentation". Ira said. "that's wonderful". Genki smiled. "I'm very happy for you". "yeah, I tried my best". Ira said. "I know I'm not the smartest, but, I keep trying my best". "you are very intelligent". Genki said. "you have changed the world with your accomplishments". Genki's voice was low, and feminine. Very sonorous, yet wise, gentle. "I know". Ira said. "she has". Kuki said. "so, do you attend therapy?". Genki asked. "no, not really". Ira said. "I'm kind of busy with everything". "hmmm". "therapy would be good". Genki said. "I guess". Ira said. "remember, you got therapy at Children's?". Kuki asked. "you used to do playing, you used to do handwriting, sitting". "yeah, kind of". Ira said. "that would be nice for you to do, developmental therapy". Genki said. "yeah, but, I already know how to do complicated things". Ira said. "yes, but developmental would help you with important life skills". "cognition". Genki said. her thin, yet maroon red, decorated lips moved as she talked, curving with each statement, then locking.
Genki was an elegant woman. She was sharp, successful, and poised. She believed a true woman was one that enjoyed physical pleasures, as well as other world materials. She believed a woman, or a girl, was thoughtful, and intelligent. A woman could feed the ego of a man, while letting him believe he was right, even when he wasn't. Genki, too, had her moments of neuroticism. "this will help you". Genki said. "I guess". Ira said. "I don't know". "it's a thought". Genki said. "I…I guess". Ira said, looking down at her milk. "How has the baby been doing?". Genki asked, stretching out in the chair. "they've been doing good". "my V feels tight". Kuki said. Genki lit a cigarette, blowing out some smoke. "that's the same way my V felt when your father $$$ed a couple nights ago". "mmm, it feels weird". Kuki said. "luckily, we didn't $$$, so, it's not that bad". "it'd be worse if he stuck, and didn't get it out". Genki said. "perhaps". "so, you missed the show, Kans I put on yesterday". Genki said. "oh really, what was that?". Wally asked, taking out his vape pen. "yes, I'm curious". Kuki muttered. "we drew a bath, right?". "then he shoved his D up my butt, going in like nothing else, then $$$$ing, which I bought back, and he stuck it up there, and didn't get it out". Genki said. "he just $$$ed, but it was completely fine". "so you were fine with Kani shoving his d up your v, and he stuck?". Wally muttered. "yeah, it felt good". Genki said. "I didn't feel bad with it". "that's pretty good". Kuki said. "we haven't $$$ed in weeks". "you won't want to $$$$ once the baby's in there". Genki said. Kani was inside feeding Ivanov, and Nalana.
Smoke billowed outside on the porch, around them, as they talked. It could easily be seen that they were no stranger to having a budding sex life, and the surrounding joys that neared it. Kuki leaned back, feeling a wave of exhaustion from carrying the baby around. Ira sat, innocently, watching, as she drank the milk she got inside. "Ira sweetheart". A low, sonorous, yet alluring voice, similar to what an older woman would sound like on a message machine, said. "would you like something to drink?". "something to eat?". Fabric rustled, as someone's voice said this. "no, I'm ok". Ira said. "of course, sweetheart". "let us know if you need anything". Their voice, the essence of sex, the essence of an alluring older woman, and temptation, billowing like the bedsheets. It was a nurturing, supportive, yet erogenous voice that would guide Ira.
"you are beautiful". Genki said, blowing out a bit more smoke from her cigarette. "thanks". Ira said. "you are a true inspiration to us all". "you have changed our lives, and have made life worth living". Genki said. "thank you". Ira said. Ira felt much calmer with this medicine. "you are so incredible". Genki said, as a minor orgasm came through. "ohhhh, sweetheart". "oh". "thank you". Ira said, drinking her milk. "she is wonderful, isn't she?". Genki whispered scandalously. "she is". Wally replied. "Ira, sweetie, are you tired?". Kuki asked, as Ira looked up at her. "kind of". Ira said. "are you alright". Genki asked. "although that could've been traumatizing, experiencing a flashback". "yeah, I guess". Ira said, looking down at her feet. "I sometimes have flashbacks". "it just happens, and I don't know how to stop it". "It was very traumatic, what you experienced". Genki said. "yeah, it was". Ira said. "Luckily, you worked through it, learned at an amazing rate, and became a success". Genki flicked a bit of ash from her cigarette.
Ira sat, knowing that at least there was someone who cared for her. someone who loved her. Kuki and Wally definitely did. Even when she at most, felt as if she were on her own, she could rely on someone to comfort her through her trauma. Nalana came out, as Kani held Ivanov in his arms. "k aka". "k aka". Nalana pointed. "yes, I know, we are best friends". Kani said. "we should probably get going". Wally said. "if we take the back way, we'll get there at 10:15". "I think Sans is closed for construction". Kuki said. "I didn't check anything, so I wouldn't know". Wally muttered back. "I don't think it's closed". "it might not be". Kani said. "they'd send me something if they were". Wally said. "eee". "eee". "eee". Ivanov noised, touching Kani's glasses, exploring the way an infant would. "I know, bestie". "you're doing a wonderful job of swallowing". Kani said. "eee". Ivanov noised. "I know, buddy, how thoughtful". Kani wiped Ivanov's chin. Ivanov began putting his fingers in his mouth, as Kani stopped him. "don't do that". He'd said.
"so, if we go off of Minton, we should arrive at 10:15". Wally said. "perhaps". Genki said. "we could go onto Cogan, but it would take longer". "why don't we go off of Minton". Kuki said, feeling the tightness in her uterus again. "sure, we'll do it". Wally said. "ooo eee". "oooo eee". Ivanov pointed. "do you want to see Kuki?". Kani said. "ok, bestie, let's go see her". He then put Ivanov in Kuki's lap. "hi, baby". Kuki said, stroking Ivanov's face. "Are you ok?". "did you spend some time with my dad?". Ivanov noised, laying his head down on Kuki's shoulder. "I know, I love you too". Kuki said, kissing his cheek. "Ira". Genki said, as Ira turned to look at her. "yeah?". Ira asked. "would you like some more milk to take with you?". Genki asked. "There's some in the fridge". "I'm ok for right now". Ira said. "of course, sweetie". "let us know if you need anything". Genki said. "Here, I'll get him". Wally said, taking Ivanov off of her hands. "Are you ready, mate?". "let's get you some more milk". He then poured Ivanov some milk into his bottle. "eeee". "eeee". "eee". Ivanov made the more sign, as Wally got his milk. "here you are". Wally said. "let's get ready to go, here". "b aba". "b aba". Nalana pointed as she drank her milk. "I know, you are super silly". Kani said, booping her little nose. "We're the super silly best friends". "ba da". Nalana pointed. "ba da". "would you like our super special dolphin?". Kani picked up the dolphin toy. "yes". Nalana said. "very good, saying yes!". Kani said, kissing Nalana's cheek. "I hope we have everything". Ira said. "we should be fine". Genki said, gathering her purse. "if we for some reason or another don't have everything, we'll just make do with what we have". "We shouldn't be gone long". "I hope not". Ira said.
They made their way to the car, putting the kids in first, then the adults went in. Kuki sat in the back with the kids. "I hear Dr. Phillips is pretty nice". Genki said. "She was originally my OBGYN". Kuki said. "Then she moved into women's care, and newborns". "she checked on me a couple of times". Genki said. "that's nice". Kuki said. "at the least, we didn't have to pay the premium". "the premium was included in our medical". Wally said. "Blue Cross, Blue Shield for the kids, and benefits from the school". "did they have you pay the copay?". Genki asked. "the copay was only 25, and the others were brought in". Kuki said. "hmm, we paid triple what we were owed from last quarter". Genki said. "sometimes they have you pay triple plus the upcharge". "that's how they get us". Kani said. "we luckily paid the quarter amount from last time". "that was only because we put 35 down". Wally said. "you put money down". "good strategy". Genki muttered.
They went past many houses, an array of neighborhoods, and a few shops here and there. When they came to the women's center at the St. Clair branch of Highmark, it was just nearby Nalana and Ivanov's school. Pulling in, they all got out. They then made their way to the waiting room, and check in. A nice girl with red hair checked them in, and they got to sitting in the waiting room. "the baby's grown quite a bit". Kuki said looking down at her stomach. "it'll only get harder as time goes on". Genki said. "mom". Kuki began to chastise. "I'm just saying, you and your sister were difficult". Genki said. "if your sister gets pregnant, don't blame me, this one was all on her". "yes, why would she learn anything from the one that can't keep it in her pants". Kuki said.
"honestly, I have no idea where your sister went". Genki said. "she went for a big fancy weekend in Cabo, and I haven't heard from her since". "she's probably busy with something in her mouth". Kuki muttered. Ira overheard, as she sat, reading. "da ba". "da ba". Nalana came sitting in Kuki's lap. "let's play with Dolphin later". Kuki said, gently. "this is a quiet room". "would you like some milk?". Kuki asked. "yes". Nalana said, pronouncing her words correctly. She drank her milk, sitting on Kuki's lap, as Ivanov played with his fingers. "ooo eee". "ooo ee". He reached upward with his hands, calling out for Kuki. "hi, baby". Kuki said, stroking Ivanov's face. "are you ok?". "would you like milk?". Ivanov put his fingers in his mouth, making sucking noises, as he stared vacantly. "let's keep our hands down". Kuki said kindly. "eeee". "eeee". Ivanov pointed, as he reached his hands up. "do you want to sit up here?". Kuki asked. "ooo eee". "ooo eee". "ok, let's sit quietly". Kuki said, gently, lifting Ivanov onto her lap. Nalana sat on the chair beside Kuki, pointing at her stomach. "b aba". "b aba". Nalana said. "there is a baby in there". Kuki said, lifting her shirt. Nalana laid against Kuki's stomach, giving it a kiss.
"That was very sweet". Kuki smiled, as Nalana giggled. "the baby loves you". Kuki said gently. "that was very sweet". Genki said, as Nalana raised her arms, wanting to be picked up. "you have always been sweet". Genki said, stroking Nalana's head. "you know Kuki loves that about you". "b aba". Nalana pointed. "yes, I see Kuki has a baby". Genki said. "mmm, this is pretty exciting". Kuki said, putting her hand over Ira's. "it really is". Ira said. "Wally and I were thinking about kids later on, though, we never thought they'd show up so early". Kuki said. "kids are a blessing, although". "I am so glad to be having one". "although I will need to buckle down". "you're pretty disciplined". Ira said. "I'm seeing you raise Nalana, and Ivanov". "that's because I love kids". Kuki said. "they are our hope for a better tomorrow". "they are". Ira said. "did I ever tell you just how much I appreciate you?". Kuki said, covering Ira's hand.
"you have, many times". Ira said. "you know I do". "you, are our only hope for my family". Kuki said. "I know". Ira said. "I just, I don't know why Mushi has to date every single person, and do bad stuff with them". "Mushi has nothing better to do with her life". Kuki said. "you at least have a fighting chance". "and Nalana and Ivanov". Ira said. "yes". Kuki said. she stretched out, brushing Ivanov's face as he turned his head, looking upwards. "mmm, my stomach will feel so sore from that jelly". "I might have to call in tomorrow". Kuki said. "maybe". Ira said. Ivanov made sucking noises, as drool dripped from his chin. "baby". Kuki said, as Ivanov drooled. "Let's swallow". Ivanov sucked the remaining drool in, as he pushed it down with the force of his throat. "good work, sweetie". Kuki said, brushing Ivanov's cheek. Ivanov, was at least somewhat aware that Kuki was now having a baby. He knew she was, and though this was a change, he felt happy. "eee". "eeee". "eeee". Ivanov noised, lifting his hands up. "Are you playing, Ivanov?". Kuki instructed kindly. "eee". Ivanov began giggling. "I know, buddy". "I know". Kuki smiled, brushing his face. "mmm, I know this is a big change for us, but, we'll work through it". "you are my special, amazing friend, I will continue to cherish". "I have always known we were meant to be together". "now my dream has become a reality". "my dream to be with you".
Ivanov noised as Kuki kissed his cheek, brushing his face. "I love you". Kuki said, smiling. Ivanov didn't resist the kiss. He sat there, letting it come. "Good job, Ivanov". Kuki said, brushing his face. "you have always done well". "eee". Ivanov noised.
"mmm, my special boy". Kuki sighed, brushing Ivanov. Ivanov turned his head, unable to hold attention. "you might be getting this at a fixed rate". Wally said. "I better not". Kuki muttered. "hello, Kuki Sanban?". A friendly nurse said. "yes". Kuki said. "good, great!". "Hey, so we'll take you back in suite 415". "we'll get you set up". "ok, thank you". Kuki said. "wonderful". Genki said, as the others got up, following Kuki back. "Are you ready buddy?". "let's go". Kani picked up Ivanov as he played with his fingers. They walked back to suite 415, as Kuki laid down on the hospital bed. "this is a pretty nice suite for the optimal floor". Kani said. "I'm surprised they didn't charge for any floor amenities". "Floor amenities weren't included in the bundle". Wally said. "our insurance covers it". Kuki said. "yes, but that's met on a monthly". Wally said. "hmm, I don't know what our agent said about a monthly, but, it's somewhere near there". Kuki said. Ira stood nearby, as Kuki brushed her face. "thanks for supporting me". Kuki said. "I know this isn't ideal". "no, I…I'm really proud of you". Ira said. "I…I look up to you". "you were the one that helped me, and was there for me, when no one else wasn't". "sweetie". Kuki said, kindly, yet truthfully.
"you inspired me". "you guided me in ways I never thought possible". "you've done so well, and are such an excellent learner". "you inspire me each and every day, my best friend". "I know". Ira said. Kuki kissed Ira's cheek, brushing Ira's face. "you are my inspiration". Kuki sighed. "Ira, sweetheart". Genki said, gently. Ira turned around. "yes?". Ira asked. "I heard you recently had your Nobel Prize ceremony on acts of kindness, and justice through god". Genki smiled. "how was it?". "it was good". Ira said. "my adoptive family came with me, and, I…I had a dinner the night before the ceremony". "they interviewed me, and I was offered tenure". "mmm". Genki smiled. "that's lovely, sweetheart". "I'm sure you were excited". "I was". Ira said. "I worked really hard, and did all I could simply because I believe that god has, and will always protect me". "I know I came from darkness, but, I see the light in helping others see the true meaning of family". "I forgive my foster family, and even though they were in darkness, I hope they have seen the light, and will come to know how valued they are". Genki smiled, as Ira looked up at her, drinking her milk.
"that is wonderful, Ira, sweetheart". Genki said. "you are very inspiring, and you have helped me to attain my goals as well". "thank you". Ira said. "she is". Kuki smiled. Ira understood, and welcomed the warmth of mother and daughter toward her. She knew Kuki and her mother looked up to her, yes, but they were also her mentors, or the family of her mentor, who would help her on her journey, help her learn, and become a better version of herself. In reality, they understood she had a learning disability due to a dark past, and would help her better navigate the world. "you are our inspiration". Kani said. "you have been for a while". "you're amazing". "thank you". Ira said.
"hello everyone". The tech said, bringing in some equipment. "hello, mate". Wally said, holding Nalana in his lap. "hi, I'm Dr. Zandel". "Today, we're doing identification of the gender". "yes". Kuki said. "you haven't eaten in 12 hours?". Dr. Zandel asked. "no". Kuki said. "we might get some Chipotle on the way home". She smiled to Ira, giggling in their sneaky plan. "that's good". "I might get myself something as well". Dr. Zandel said. "alright, I'll be squirting this jelly on the patient's stomach near the area of life, the heartbeat should be heard, and the baby should be displayed on this monitor". "ok, how will the gender be looked at?". Kuki asked. "it will reside from the flagym of the baby's under region on this monitor". Dr. Zandel said. "alright". Wally said. Nalana reached her hand out, as Kuki put on the hospital gown.
"b aba". "b aba". Nalana pointed. "there is a baby there". "in a few minutes we'll see if it's a boy, or a girl". Wally said. His voice remaining thick, and deep. There was some hair growing on his face. He needed to shave. Kuki laid back down, as Nalana came over, touching her stomach. "ba ba". "ba ba". "I know, sweetie". Kuki said, gently. "can you say hi to the baby". "b aba". "b aba". Nalana giggled. "mmm, it's time to go sit with Wally". Kuki said, kindly. "they're going to be putting jelly on my belly soon". "tee hee". "jelly on my belly". Kuki giggled, tickling Nalana. Nalana laughed, as Kuki kissed her cheek. "ba bu". "ba bu". Nalana said. "I love you too". Kuki said. "ok, it's time". The nurse returned with the jelly, and the nodes for the machine. "here it is". "alright, we will first put jelly on your stomach". Dr. Zandel said. He then squirted some jelly on Kuki's stomach, hooking up nodes to the machine. Everyone leaned in, watching. Ira looked down at Kuki. The ultrasound then went further, further, closer, closer, closer in. closer, closer, closer in. "oh, I hope they find something". Genki said. Kani just gave her a look.
Closer. Closer. Closer it went, until a thump, thump, thump sound was heard. They had found a heartbeat at the center. "oh my". Ira said, looking down at Kuki. Genki put a hand on Ira's shoulder. "nice". Wally said. "b aba". "b aba". Nalana said. "yes, that's the baby's heartbeat". Wally said. It was heard. It was there. No one could deny it at this point. "look up there". Wally said. Nalana looked up to see a fetus on the screen, in the shape of a human. "that's a baby". Wally said. "well, it seems…". Dr. Zandel looked closely at the monitor. "your baby is a boy". "oh, that's wonderful". Kuki smiled. "cool". "that's amazing". Wally said, gladly. "I must say, I'm proud". Kani said. "I never thought I'd have a grandson until later". "I never thought we would, either". Genki said. "oh, congratulations, Kuki". Ira said. "mmm thanks baby". Kuki said, squeezing her hand. There he was. The baby. Ivanov stared at his hands, vacantly, as Kani brought him over to the screen. "there he is". "There's Kuki's baby". Kani said. "eee". "eeee". "eeee". Ivanov turned his head, as Kani kissed his cheek.
"I know, buddy, this is new for me as well". "well, this is wonderful". Kuki said. "the decision I made turned out to be a good one". "that it did". Kani said. Everyone was cheerful at the sight of a baby boy. Soon, he would come into the world, and stun everyone. Soon, he would make his entrance. It was a spectacle to be had. Ira sat, letting the thought, letting the feeling resonate for a few seconds. Kuki was about to have a baby. Ira had been there, knowing the natural process. Wally had sex with Kuki, yes, while they were unmarried, and the egg had traveled up Kuki's uterus, into the spot where it was now. Her ovaries. Kuki now was going to have a baby. Ira felt as if she knew, and could see this process. Natural, beautiful, and how families were made. Ira, at this second, felt all of her pain she had felt, all of her depression, and all of her sadness melt away. She felt safe with Kuki, and as if everything she had worked for, everything she was, was worth it. Ira felt loved. She felt as if she was being held, and rocked, cuddled in the beauty of life. Kuki was her advocate, and her best friend. Ira loved Kuki, and would stay with her for support.
"mmm, you have emotional support therapy with Marie". Kuki said. Ira stopped in her tracks, knowing what Kuki was saying. "I do?". She asked. "yes, sweetie". Kuki said. "do you want me to drop you off by her house?". "sure". Ira said, reluctantly. "sweetie, I know you're a bit hesitant, but it'll help you". Kuki smiled. "trust me, if there's any pain you feel, or anything you'd like to talk about, Marie can help you through it". "ok". Ira said. "I just, I…I'm glad someone's there to help me". "someone's there for me". "I actually have a family". "of course". Kuki said. "I'm happy you feel that way". "You have worked extremely hard ever since I met you".
