Jareth stood by the window of the dinning room with his arms behind his back. He was wearing his finest attire, a black sequin shirt with a true blue sequin vest to match, and of course his tight pants. He had his hands clasped together holding the small box containing the ring.
He just hoped it wasn't too soon...
He heard footsteps and quickly put the box in his shirt. He turned to see Hoggle bowing but he quickly looked past him to see Sarah.
His jaw dropped, he simply couldn't hide it. He swallowed and lowered his head in a slight bow with his hand outstretched towards her.
"My dear, Sarah. I waited quit some time for you, but it was definitely worth it. You look stunning, marvelous, simply wonder-"
"Jareth, please. Spare me your compliments." Sarah laughed and walked towards him and grasped his hand. He smiled at her broadly and walked her to her seat. He pulled her chair out and let her sit down. He then pushed the chair back in and walked to his seat. He sat down and immediately clapped twice, just as he did the night before. He looked at Sarah and she giggled.
Goblins came out the doors once more with trays piled with pancakes, syrup, biscuits and gravy, and toast with sticky, teeth rotting jams and jellies.
Sarah quickly piled her plate full of biscuits and heaped gravy on top.
"Hungry aren't you, Precious?" Jareth threw his head back and laughed. His blue eyes were soft and full of joy.
Sarah laughed too, "Very much, I'm starving."
Jareth smiled, "When you are finished, dear, I have something special planned." He said as she forked her meal into her mouth.
She dropped her fork. It clattered to the table and she put both hands on the table and almost stood up.
"A surprise? For me? Oh, Jareth! I can't believe that! Tell me, what is it?"
"It's a secret, sweetheart. You'll see!"
Sarah groaned and crossed her arms and started to pout like a toddler.
"Now, Sarah, you definitely won't find out if you have an attitude like that."
"Ugh, fine. But it isn't fair."
"Dearest, you will appreciate the wait. Now eat and you will be able to find out."
Sarah quickly began to eat as Jareth took a couple pancakes and a piece of toast.
After they were done eating Jareth lead her to an open ballroom. Sarah walked in front of him to the center of the room and spun around.
"You're going to dance with me, aren't you?" She asked.
Jareth nodded and walked to her and grasped her waist and held her hand out. Sarah wrapped her arm around his neck and they began to dance.
Sarah heard soft music playing and Jareth began to sing once more,
"There's such a sad love,
Deep in your eyes,
A kind of pale jewel.
Open and closed within your eyes,
I'll place the sky,
Within your eyes.
There's such a foiled heart,
Beating so fast,
In search of new dreams.
A love that will last within your heart,
I'll place the moon,
Within your heart.
As the pain sweeps through,
Makes no sense for you.
Every thrill has gone,
Wasn't too much fun at all.
But I'll be ther for you,
As the world falls down!
Falling,
Falling down,
Falling in love!"
Jareth doin her around and around. She looked into his beautiful blue eyes as they danced.
Jareth stopped and put his hands in his shirt.
"Sarah, I have something to tell you."
Sarah looked down at his chest to see what he was pulling out from his shirt. He slowly pulled out a little box. Sarah gasped as he got down on one knee and opened the box, exposing the beautiful diamond ring. She put her hand to her mouth, wide eyed. Tears were forming in her eyes.
"Sarah, from the moment I ever laid my eyes on you I knew I had to have you. You are the only one for me, the only one fit enough to rule this kingdom by my side. You are the most gorgeous, courageous, strong woman I have ever met. You have truly captivated me and made me whole. Will you marry me?"
Sarah began to cry, she didn't know what to do what to say.
After a few seconds she stammered, "I-I... J-Jareth, you must be kidding."
"I would never kid with you about matters such as these, my love."
Sarah took a step backward. "Jareth I can't accept this." And with that she turned and ran out of the room, leaving Jareth alone on his knee.
Jareth looked down and he let the tears flow. He felt sad, lonely, and enraged. After everything he had done for her she rejected her.
He stood up and threw the ring, box and all, with a loud shriek of agony and despair.
He stood against the wall with his head in his hands, sobbing all the while.
He knew what he had to do.
