(Strongly) inspired by s/4557771/1/8-Things-Boys-Are-Being-Compared-To, that btw you should read too~ I wanted to try this format for years, and it was so fun, I loved it!

„Who do they think we are?"

It was a typical afternoon at the Alice Academy; sun shining, kids playing, Natsume grumbling. He and Ruka had just wanted to go relax in the woods, but they saw the girls in the distance, and one thing (boredom) led to the other (spying) and they ended up overhearing a conversation that was so not meant for them it hurt.

„Guess that's why you're not supposed to eavesdrop on your girlfriend, smiled Ruka, not too happy about the conversation, but too dedicated to soothing his friend to complain himself.

- They only excite you for a while? What the fuck?

- That's what bothers you?

- Shut up," cut Natsume, turning his head to hide his blush.

They had walked in the forest a while, and finally settled under a big tree. A few squirrels jumped on the blond's lap and he patted them absentmindedly, eyes on his friend.

"So I'm all you talk about, huh? He grinned.

- Mikan's just being dramatic as always.

- Sup, whatcha talking about?"

The two boys jumped at the interruption, neither of them having heard the footsteps approach. Laughing at their surprise, Tsubasa sat down besides them, naturally nonchalant- Natsume could respect that.

"So, what's the matter now?

- None of your business. Why aren't you with your girlfriend?

- Oh, don't be jealous, Natsu-chan! Teased the older. Or has Mikan finally dumped you?

- Of course not!

- She's just complaining about him to Hotaru, explained Ruka. Very poetically so.

- Oh, that comparison thing? Misaki's all about that lately. It's like a secret code, she says one word and all her friends start laughing, he grimaced.

- And we're the bad ones…

- At least you have girlfriends to complain about, sighed Ruka. I don't even have that problem.

- Why don't you date Mikan's friend? Imai?

- God, please no.

- Nah, that's… fine. We're enough being friends.

- Too much already, mumbled Natsume, still half convinced the girl would someday bribe Ruka to break them up. Nothing but trouble."

To be fair, the two got along maybe more than any other boy-girl combination of the four- they had no feelings whatsoever, understood each other, and usually had similar goals. Except when it came to dating, but he supposed even that wouldn't be a problem if it was anyone else than Mikan of all people.

"Think they're so smart.

- We're smart too!"

Ruka didn't like where this was heading much.

"Girls are like tanks. Pretty from the outside, but suffocating once you get in."

Tsubasa spilled the drink he was holding, surprise quickly replaced by roaring laughter.

"Natsu that was brilliant! He hiccuped with tears in his eyes, making the shorter grin. My turn. Girls are… like stairs. You think you're done but there's always more around the corner.

- That's a bit… convoluted…

- Nah, it's fine, agreed Natsume. You should try too, it's liberating.

- I don't need…

- Girls are like beds, warm but a waste of time.

- … Are you sure you and Mikan are okay?

- Girls are like spices! Awesome but they kick you when you least expect it!

- Cakes, sighed Ruka. You're excited when you get them but you regret it as soon as you're home.

- Eh? I don't regret dating Misaki…"

Natsume let out a non-committal groan and stared in the empty air, not saying anything for a while. Tsubasa too seemed like he had dozens of ideas, but didn't voice any of them.

"Ice-cream, I guess, continued the fire bender finally. Messy, but kinda sweet.

- Gross.

- Get your mind out of the gutter you creep!"

Ruka smiled, seeing his friend blush furiously after so much as insinuating something- shudder- romantic. He knew he was nice and soft with Mikan, so why he persisted at denying it was a mystery even to Ruka.

"Cats. Never as great as the real best friends.

- Aww, that's adorable!

- I'm all you talk about, she was saying? Couldn't help but tease Ruka, once more.

- Oh shut up, you know what I mean!

- Ah, the cuteness of youth…

- I'll burn you to ashes.

- Ooh, fire! Girls are like fire! If you get too close you get scars!

- Aaaand I'm out.

- Like camels, they… No nevermind, that's much even for me, stopped Natsume.

- Thank god."

Natsume looked at his friend- for all his complaining, he hadn't stopped smiling since they started, looking pretty amused by all of it, and it occurred to him he knew what Hotaru had meant by "he'd let her go in the blink of an eye for you"- her main reason for not supporting the blond in his weak attempts at courtship. He couldn't say that was true for him, but he knew he'd refuse to pick between the two- girlfriend or best friend. He wondered if Hotaru knew that. Cats, huh.

"They're like kittens, said Ruka unexpectedly, cute but too sharp for anyone's good."

She probably did.

"Hey, we're pretty good at this, right? I'm starting to see why girls enjoy it so much!

- Honestly, yeah, admitted Ruka.

- It would be more fun without you, idiot."

That was only half true, and they knew it- he just wanted to share ideas with Mikan, Tsubasa wasn't bothering him for once. And she's the suffocating one, thought Tsubasa. You hypocrite. Ah, young love. Maybe one day they'd be as in sync as he and Misaki- he smirked at the idea. Ha. A day far, far away, before they learned to communicate together instead of meddling friends.

Okay, so... I have Many feelings. As I see it Tsubasa is Proud of his strong gf and Natsume and Mikan are... getting there? It's a fresh relationship, they need time lol. Idk if that's long enough to fully depict exactly my headcanons, but I guess it's probably better if it doesn't haha.

I really hope y'all liked it, please tell me in the comments! Even if it's just random thoughts, I miss GA I need to know people still care :D
