Chapter 1 – Memories last night and a letter from an old friend
Chloe and Liam were on the bleachers in the school gym as they watched the basketball team have basketball practice. Just then, Liam remembered what happened the night before.
Liam: We sure had a rough night! Those Troggs got me when I walked in the door.
Chloe: I know, Liam! It was all my fault! I never should have told you to leave. You were only trying to help! We would have gotten the keystone back if I let you help me.
Liam: But I'm glad you came for me, Chloe! What made you change your mind?
Chloe: I realized you were right about the BTCs all along! And I also realized you were a true friend to me, even if you talk much.
Liam: I guess that's true!
Just then, their friend, Trey, walked up to them!
Trey: Hey, you two! Brittany told me to tell you that she and her friends are sorry for being mean to you.
Liam: That's okay!
Chloe: But what made them change their minds?
Trey: Brittany told me she had a weird dream about talking gnomes and a giant monster.
That's when Chloe remembered the Mega-Trogg and the text message from Brittany. She and Liam knew about the Mega-Trogg, but if they told Brittany that it did happen, they might be teased at.
Chloe: Gosh! I hope she's okay!
Later that day after school, Chloe and Liam had just arrived at their homes. Just then, Liam noticed the flag on his mailbox was up. He lowered the flag and opened the mailbox. Inside Liam found a letter with his name on it.
Liam: Hmmm! I wonder who it's from!
He opened the envelope and read the letter!
Liam: 'To Liam, I have some good news! Remember when I wrote to you that my fight back home was delayed by plane maintenance? Well, the fight back to TenderVille is back in order again! I'm coming home! Since it will be Saturday, please come to the airport tomorrow. I'll be looking forward to seeing you again! From your friend, Nick.' Oh, my goodness, Nick's coming back!
Chloe: Liam, who's Nick?
Liam: Why, Nick is a childhood friend of mine. He and I have been friends since Kindergarten. We did everything together!
Liam told Chloe that last summer, Nick was invited by the owner of a music company in New York City. Nick didn't want to leave Liam behind. But they promise to write to each other! Until one day on the last week of Summer Vacation, Liam got a letter from Nick saying that the flight back to TenderVille has been delayed because all the planes were due for maintenance. Liam was upset when he received the news!
Liam: I kept checking the mailbox for any news of Nick coming home and this letter proves it. I can't wait to see Nick again! If you like, you come with me to the airport. I'm sure Nick would like to meet you!
Chloe: Of course!
