Author's Note: This is just a little thing that wouldn't get out of my head after playing Gates to Infinity. One of the few things that disappoints me about that game is that you never really get to hear from the other humans Hydreigon summoned, so here we go!
Prologue: Dreams Made Real
Hannah was exhausted.
She'd spent several hours in the library after school working on a group project for her English class. At least that was finished now, but she still had homework for Algebra and Biology… It was almost the end of the year. Couldn't her teachers just let up for once?
Hannah sighed as she flopped down on her bed. At least her mother had saved some dinner for her, and she'd gotten to eat, but she still didn't have any energy. She didn't want to do her homework at all…but she really needed to. Her grade in Algebra was already bad, so she couldn't make it worse by just skipping assignments altogether.
Why hadn't she just gone on a Pokémon journey, like some of her friends had? Then she wouldn't have to deal with this at all. It was an idea that sometimes occurred to her, but…by now, Hannah thought she was "too old" for that.
Sighing again, she dug around in her backpack and pulled out her math book. Hannah grabbed a sheet of paper and started copying down the appropriate questions. No more moping; she should get started.
Okay…she could do this. Hannah squinted at the first problem. After a few minutes of frantic scribbling, she'd finished it. That wasn't too bad. She thought she'd gotten it right, or at least close. Now, onto the next one…
Hannah really could do this. (Probably.) But she was just…so tired…
She flopped forward, face landing on her still-open textbook, and started snoring lightly a few seconds later.
"Excuse me… Are you, maybe…a human?"
What a weird question. Of course she was a human…right?
"Then please…listen to my request. I need your—"
Then there was a sudden fog, followed by a static noise. Her vision had already been unclear, but it and her hearing were now clouded by a dull crackling effect for several seconds. When the voice spoke up again, there was something…different about it. Before, it had almost sounded like two overlapping speakers, but now only the higher-pitched part remained.
"HELP! I need your help!"
She could see again, and there was a blurry image of two Pokémon running towards her. A small pink one was being pursued by a larger, snapping dragon—and then everything went dark.
Hannah groaned in her sleep, and then a light golden glow started to envelope her body. Once the light faded, her body was gone; the only proof she'd ever been in her room was the slight wrinkle of her bed sheets.
