CHAPTER 3: AIRING GRIEVANCES

Back at the prison, Lucy and Violet was catching up with one another. The warden even greeted Lucy and asked how she was doing on the outside. Lucy had told Violet about Derrick and how nice and cute he was. The day was going pretty smooth. But there was one thing that was on Lucy's mind more than anything.

"What made you go try to murder the entire Brown family?" asked Lucy. "Did you hate Charlie that much?"

"I did, Lucy," said Violet. "It consumed me. I now see what I did was wrong, but at that time, I didn't care."

"You know he had nothing to do with you getting fired, right?"

"I know. It was me and me alone that was responsible. I now see that, but it's too late. Now I'm here."

"Well as long as you stay away from the gangs you'll be okay."

"Yeah. We were wrong for picking on him, Lucy. We were horrible to him."

"I know. Long ago, even before I landed in here myself, I made peace with him. He had forgiven me and Patty."

"Well I may be the only exception in forgiveness, because I tried to murder him."

"I will say this. None of us would have even dreamed about killing Charlie, no matter how bad we treated him. He may forgive you in time, but not today."

"I know. I made a promise to myself, Lucy. Once I'm free from here and all of the legal tape surrounding my case, I am moving far away from Sparkyville and I won't ever return."

"What about your father?"

"He disowned me, Lucy. After I was arrested, he broke my trust to pay for Sally's schooling, leaving me with a half-million dollars to help myself out when I got released. After that, he was done with me. He even said that I was dead to him."

"Holy shit!"

"He hates me now! The one person I cared about more than anything in the world hates me! If it weren't for you coming to visit, I'd have nobody at all!" Violet started crying. Lucy hugged her and comforted her.

"It's okay, Violet," she assured her friend. "Everything will be okay. Yes you fucked up royally, but you still have me as a friend."

"Thank you, Lucy," sobbed Violet. Lucy kissed Violet on her forehead.

"Just try to get through your sentence, Vi," said Lucy, softly, "and things will work out for you."

Violet wiped her eyes. "Talk about a Kodak moment!" Both ladies laughed.

"Well with the good, there is still some bad with me, though," sighed Lucy. "Schroeder still has it in his head that I'm stalking him."

"I have heard about the restraining order he was placing against you. What happened?"

"The other day I was doing some grocery shopping and I happen to bump into him there. He went off, accusing me of following him, even though it was coincidence we were there at the same time."

"Seriously?!"

"Before I came here to see you, Linus told me he would talk to him to get him to stop with his paranoia. I don't know if it'll do any good, though."

"Be careful, Lucy. Schroeder may be going down the same dark path I did. He just might be blaming you for his problems like I did with Charlie Brown."

"You may be right, Vi." And both women continued to talk and catch up. Soon it was time for Lucy to head back to Sparkyville. Violet was happy that Lucy came to visit. At least she knew she still had a friend in her.
