The Potters and Granger-Weasleys were at the park. Harry was watching James and Albus, who were playing with Rose and Hugo all over the playscape. Harry, Ginny, Ron, and Hermione were sitting on a bench, discussing Harry and Ron's latest mission at the Ministry. They knew it would break their children's hearts, but it had to be done if they were to leave a stable world for their children.
Harry and Ron, as the Head of the Auror Department and the top Auror at the Ministry, had taken many dangerous cases before. But this was their most dangerous job yet. There was suspected Death Eater activity in Little Whinging, with Muggles being found dead with slashes across their throats that could only be made by a cutting curse, though the Muggle press had documented it as Muggle serial killers. Two of the first victims were his Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon, not that he really cared, though this most likely meant they were targeting his family members. Dudley had been moved to a more secure location to ensure his and his family's safety. Harry and Ron were going undercover as Death Eaters to find out the truth about if Voldemort's supporters were attempting to rise again without their leader.
Hermione said it was too dangerous for them to go, "It's too dangerous, we barely escaped from Malfoy Manor, and that was only because of Dobby"
"'Mione, I'm the Head of the Auror Department, I have to. It's up to Ron if he wants to go or not, though I do prefer him over everyone else, I've known him and worked with him since the beginning", said Harry
Ron was trying to calm down his wife, "'Mione, Harry and I have done a lot since we were 17. And most of the Death Eaters there are dead, only the Malfoys are alive still. We'll be fine"
"I don't get why you trust the Malfoys, their relatives have nearly killed us and they killed Sirius"
"Narcissa Malfoy saved my life", said Harry
"What!?", asked Hermione
"You really think Voldemort wasn't going to check to see if I was dead? Narcissa knew I was alive and asked if Draco was alive."
"Still, they'll just change sides again just like they did last time, one minute they're making large donations to the Ministry and helping them, and the next, he's trying to kill us all", said Hermione stubbornly
Ginny was comforting her best friend as much as she could, "'Mione, they'll be okay, there's a reason why they're the Ministry's top Aurors"
But Hermione wouldn't listen, "What would happen to your kids if you were to be caught and killed?", she demanded
"Hermione, we're doing this so there's a better world for the kids when they are older", said Harry
Hermione burst out in tears, "I'm sorry, I just can't imagine the kids having to live without a father"
"I can", muttered Harry so nobody could hear him
Ginny and Ron kept comforting Hermione while Harry went off to explain the situation to his kids.
"Albus, James!", he called
"Coming Daddy", yelled Albus as he and James ran over to their father
"Let's take a walk", suggested Harry
"Sure Dad", said James
Albus and James walked alongside their father as they explored the park.
Eventually, Harry guided them onto a bench and they sat down, "I know it's hard for you, but I have to leave"
"What?", asked Albus
"I have to leave for a while, I'm sorry, but I have to"
"Why?"
"It's for my job, I have to go to Little Whinging", Harry said, standing back up and continuing walking, followed by his two sons
"Daddy, why do you have to go?", asked James
"I have to go or things will be very bad when you grow up"
"Please don't go Daddy, please", begged Albus
"I have to Albus"
"But why?", asked Albus
"There are some bad guys in the world who want to destroy life as we know it"
"But...", started James, but Harry cut him off.
"I swear that I'll be around for you. We'll bleed and fight for you, we'll make it right for you. And you'll blow us all away someday, someday. Yeah, you'll blow us all away. Someday, someday.", sang Harry, holding his two sons' hands as they walked through the park
"Daddy, promise me you'll come back."
"I promise both of you I'll come back"
"But how long will you be gone?", asked Albus
"I don't know, it might be days and it might be years"
"But what if you forget us?", asked Albus fretfully
Harry crouched down so he was level with his youngest son's face, "Because I know you, I have been changed for good and I will never forget you for that Al, I promise"
"I love you daddy", said Albus, crying and holding onto his father
"I love you too Al, and I'll never forget you"
He turned to James and picked him up, "You know I'll never forget either one of you ever"
James and Albus continued clinging to their father as he continued singing the same song to them over and over."I swear that I'll be around for you. I'll make the world safe and sound for you. We'll bleed and fight for you, we'll make it right for you. And you'll blow us all away someday, someday. Yeah, you'll blow us all away. Someday, someday"
Eventually, they made their way back to the playscape, where James and Albus went back to play with their cousins.
"I swear that I'll be around for you. I'll make the world safe and sound for you. We'll bleed and fight for you, we'll make it right for you. And you'll blow us all away someday, someday. Yeah, you'll blow us all away. Someday, someday", muttered Harry to himself as he watched his sons play.
Ginny leaned on him, "You'll come back, right?"
"I promise you"
