Janine sat with Rose every day, only leaving her side to shower and get food. She held her hand, stoking it, talking to her, willing her to wake up. She's been waking up but has been completely delirious, not knowing where she was, what happened. The police tried to come in and talk to her but she wasn't coherent enough to make a full statement.
Tony was denying everything even though there was evidence piling up. The police had told Janine and I that there was enough to keep him without bail after he was released from hospital from his bullet wound. Janine had to talk me out of finding his room and finishing the job myself but I knew if I did then there was no chance of me escaping jail time even if I pulled in the best lawyer's money could buy.
Instead, I sat with Janine, talking to Rose, waiting for her to wake up. It's been a few weeks now since she woke up on her birthday and Dimitri came in to see her every day, spoke with her and it allowed Janine and I some freedom to go home and change, eat before we came back a few hours to sit with her again.
Dimitri didn't know anything of what Tony did to Rose, other than the obvious of drugging her since he was left in a different room for most of the time they were missing. Dimitri was only able to say what he saw, what he heard but hear-say doesn't hold up in court. The police don't want to charge him yet until Rose wakes up and since she's being waking up more frequently and it was easier to wake her up.
It was the three-week mark when Rose opened her eyes on her own, without a nurse coming in to shake her awake. Janine and I were in the room talking quietly but froze when we saw her fingers twitch. She blinked her eyes a couple of times before she wiggled her fingers and toes and the turned her head to look over at us. Janine and I held our breath and she gave us a smile and lifted her hand to rest on ours.
"Hi." Janine and I burst out into tears and hugged our daughter tightly as Janine slipped a finger to call for the nurse. Rose wrapped her arms around our necks and she held up tightly, squeezing her eyes shut. Janine pulled away and wiped the tears that were falling down our daughter's cheeks giving her a watery smile.
The nurse came in, asked Rose some questions as she called for the doctor. He came in, asked more questions did some tests and then left without a word but he gave us an encouraging smile. I followed him out.
"She seems to be fine. I'm going to get an MRI set up and physiotherapy but you have a fighter in there." I nodded and shook his hand, going back into the room and leaning against the door frame as I watched Rose and Janine clasp hands and speak quietly.
"I know he convinced you to go them times I was in hospital." Rose was saying as Janine shook her head.
"I should have stayed." Rose shook her head.
"You're here now." Someone cleared their throat behind me. I turned and looked over my shoulder before stepping in the room further.
"Rose Hathaway?" Rose nodded. "I'm Detective Smith. I've been working on your case for a while." Rose looked over at Janine and me. "Can you tell me everything he did?" She did.
She explained all the gory details, what he did to her from the small shoving when she was little girl to the punching, kicking and throwing he did when she was older. How he tried to force a panic attack to come on so she would be hopeless and vomit, allowing her to chock on it before he let her go. How she tried to talk to someone and what he would so and say when she tried to call someone or tell anyone about what happened. Then she explained how she was seeing him popping up every now and then but thought nothing of it since he was not going near her after she went on to talk about how he kidnapped her and Dimitri, explaining how he shoved her down to the ground hitting her knee which explained the new brace that was now reapplied to her knee.
"Can you tell me what happened when you were taken from the room with Dimitri?"
"I don't know." Rose shrugged her shoulders. "I had a panic attack and it was really bad, I didn't know what was happening only he would come in and inject me with something and then leave." Smith closed over the notebook he was scribbling things down and then stood up, thanking Rose and shaking my hand. Dimitri walked into the room then just as Smith turned to Rose.
"He's going away for a very, very long time. You never have to worry about him again, I promise you." Dimitri stood frozen as Rose gave him a bright smile. "Your friend here told me about a girl names Tasha, we're going to talk to her. Hopefully, we'll be able to put him away for a very, very long time." Rose nodded and gave Smith a smile before he left.
"I love you too." Rose spoke to Dimitri and Dimitri only. He paled and his cheeks flushed pink. Janine rolled her eyes and extended her hand to Dimitri.
If you guys want a short little squeal, let me know! There's not much else to do during this lock down than re write old stories of mine on here and creating new ones!
"I think you'll do too."
