Chapter II: What a Future/ A Letter for the Emperor
Far away from Transylvania, "In the future?" Griffin had so many questions to ask. Before then, however, he had to come to terms with the realization that he had time travelled – that it wasn't just a plot device anymore, that he actually broke a law of physics… somehow.
Griffin stood still for about twenty seconds before sitting on the floor, prompting Dennis to ask if Uncle Griffin was okay. "Is everything fine?"
"NO, WE TIME TRAVELLED, HOW DO WE GET BACK? HOW DID VAN HELSING'S MACHINE WORK!? DO THEY EVEN HAVE ELECTRICITY!?" Griffin wanted to scream to the world and curse his bad luck. He wanted to wallow in self-pity and cry for help and guidance… but not now. Not ever.
The kids were depending on him to put on a strong face. He had to be calm and composed. "Yeah!" His voice squeaked, prompting him to clear it before speaking again. "Yeah, guys. I'm fine. Don't worry, I'm just taking seat, wew, running is tiring."
Marcellus knew a crisis when he… saw one? Griffin was obviously in shock, maybe even angry. "Mister, my cousin here, Wade, is the lord of the land here. He can help care for you and these children."
"Yes," Wade agreed. "We Southron are gracious hosts, if nothing."
This did not help Griffin fully recover from his shock, probably nothing short of a miracle would, but it did give him some hope – at least they would not starve in this weird future. "That would be nice, thanks." Griffin then stood up, taking full sight of his gracious hosts. "Sorry for taking you, little King of the Sea, didn't want to lose my only lead on what was going on."
Neptune let out his tongue, clearly still a little angry about Griffin's rough handling. "Alright kids," Griffin took account of his charge: Dennis and the wolfpups. It might be a long time before they get home… if ever. It was best that they at least get a lay of the land and get some rest. "We're following this nice kid, Wade, here."
Griffin turned around to face Wade, as if showing the kid that he was now in-charge. "Lead the way, kiddo."
"Yes sir." Wade turned about, Marcellus right next to him at every step. The group left the bunker, following the path toward the Natchez Duchy Palace that Wade called his own. As they trekked pass some trees, long grass and ponds, they engaged in conversation; Griffin asking Wade and Marcellus about the state of the future, Sarah inquiring with the only other girl – Winnie – about her strange attachment to Dennis and Little Neptune having some play fights with the rowdy wolfpups.
