Warning: Character death

It was dark outside. Hermione was running across the school grounds towards the Forbidden Forest, gasping for breath and no longer trying to suppress the tears that were now freely streaming down her face. It hurt so much; how could he do that to her? She thought that he loved her; the lying, cheating bastard.

Twigs caught in her bushy hair, and her feet stumbled over roots. She finally stopped in a small clearing. Out of breath, Hermione collapsed on the cold grass. At the moment the clouds in the sky cleared and the moon shined down on her.

She heard a wolf howling. Her head whipped towards the round moon in the sky. Full moon. Werewolf. She scrambled to her feet and started running again. She was scared and the howling was getting closer. She looked behind her and saw the dark shape of a wolf, her feet got caught in the roots. Hermione stumbled, falling to the ground with a scream as searing pain tore through her ankle.

Her chocolate brown eyes filled with tears again, not only from the pain but also from fear. She tried to get to her feet again but the pain brought her to her knees. The werewolf was getting closer. Hermione searched for her wand but her pockets were empty.

She closed her eyes, berating herself for being stupid. Seeing Ron, her boyfriend, well now her ex-boyfriend, in bed with Lavender Brown was just too much for her. After hexing them both and running out of the Gryffindor common room she bumped into Harry and her wand must have slipped out of her cloak.

She was going to die. She closed her eyes preparing for the inevitable.

The next morning Hagrid and Fang went on their morning inspection of the Forbidden Forest when they heard the pounding of hooves. It was Bane and Firenze from the centaur herd; they showed Hagrid to the place where they found a body ravaged by a werewolf.

When Hagrid saw the bushy brown hair and Gryffindor school robes he immediately recognised Hermione. Big tears were streaming down his face and into his beard when he carried her body back to the school infirmary.

Three days later the castle was submerged in grief. The Great Hall was full of students and professors who came to pay homage to Hermione's memory. From the ceiling, black banners hung instead of the House themed ones and in the air floated hundreds of candles.

Harry stood next to Ginny holding her hand and his eyes were shining with unshed tears. Ron stood on the other side of Ginny holding hands with Lavender, Harry glared at them with a deadly look in his eyes; he blamed them for Hermione's death.

Harry and Ginny got married after she graduated from Hogwarts and had three children. James Sirius, Albus Severus and Lily Hermione.

After Hermione's death, Harry never spoke to Ron again.
