I just had to write this out.

The Kiss

Jack heard the key in the lock just as the door opened, then closed.

He thought they had more time.

Racing down the corridor he swung in to the office to alert Sue. She had spyware loading on to the computer whilst she was reading through a manila folder. He grabbed her arm, a little sharper than he meant to, and she gasped, startled.

"Come on." he gestured.

He could hear Miss Clark heading down the office towards them.

Quickly, Sue turned off the screen and ejected the disc from modem.

Jack still had hold of her arm and he lead her away from the desk, keeping her behind him so that she didn't dart straight out of the door.

They could see Janice heading in their direction.

Jack swallowed.

Sue looked at him. "Now what?"

It was too soon to have their cover blown.

There was only one thing for it.

He took a deep breath and lead her back towards the desk.

"Follow my lead." He signed.

She looked puzzled.

A smile twitched at his lips as he pulled Sue into his arms and kissed her.

She didn't hesitate. She kissed him back.

His hands settled at her waist as they kissed softly.

But then something happened.

Sue touched his face and he felt the world melt away.

He was kissing her.

Finally.

Although he would've preferred real circumstances.

Her hand landed on his chest.

He let out a small groan.

He was too involved in the kiss to know what was right and wrong. His hand slowly moved up her arm and he cupped her face.

She didn't object.

She felt incredible, her body flush against his.

She felt better than he could've possibly imagined.

Her mouth was soft and tender against his.

Her scent was intoxicating him; lavender and pink grapefuit.

In that moment only the two of them existed.

But then the light came on and Janice Clarke walked in.

They pulled apart quickly.

Startled.

He wanted more.

"Sue. Mr Buchanan." said Janice as she walked in to the room.

Sue raised her hand to her chest in shock.

He quickly looked at her, there was no way she was able to take the lead here.

He smiled slightly at the look on her face.

"Miss Clarke." he said, his voice husky.

He enjoyed that a bit too much, he thought.

He cleared his throat, thankful in that moment that Sue couldn't hear him, and straightened up his suit jacket.

"What are you doing in here?" asked Janice. "Well, I mean I can see what you're doing, but err..."

"Janice, I'm..." Sue cleared her throat. "So Sorry."

He could see her fidgeting out of the corner of his eye, tugging at the hem of her jumper.

He had no words. His mind completely devoid of a reply.

Sue jumped in, turning towards the desk and picking up a file.

"We... We got a deposition." she said, holding up the file as if needing to show proof.

Jack sighed inwardly and pointed to the file. A flicker of relief and amusement flashed across his face.

"From a key witness today. And Jack and I wanted to leave a copy." she finished.

Jack cut in, unable to wipe the smile from his face, no matter how hard he tried to keep his features neutral. "It's the break we've been waiting for in this case and umm..." His voice still sounded husky. "In the heat of the moment we..." he trailed, gesturing between the two of them.

He swallowed, still unable to neutralize his features.

The boyish grin across his face was getting bigger, partly now from embarrassment.

He couldn't believe what had just happened.

Janice widened her eyes, looking at them suspiciously.

He looked towards Sue and he couldn't tell if she wanted to laugh or cry. But she looked beautiful.

Janice smiled. "Yes well.. it can get hot in here."

They both let out a nervous sigh.

Janice took a few steps forward and took the file from Sue. "I'll that Miss Kern gets this."

He quickly looked at Sue and took hold of her arm.

"Thank you." he said to Janice.

"Umm Hmm..." she smirked, as Jack lead Sue past her and towards the door.

"Oh, Janice..." said Jack, turning back towards her.

He looked nervous, unsure how to say what he wanted to without actually saying it.

Janice smiled at him. "Don't worry, I won't say a word to her. It'll be our little secret." She cut him off.

"Thank you." said Sue, relief evident in her voice.

Jack smiled, grateful.

"And congratulations..."

They looked at each other confused for a second.

Both were still flushed from their kiss.

"On your deposition." Janice clarified.

Jack's mouth falls into an 'Oh' shape, his eyes crinkling at the corners.

They both nod, embarrassed now, and turn to leave. Jack sends a quick look of thanks to Janice as he allows Sue to lead them out.

Outside, they headed down the street towards their vehicles.

It was starting to feel awkward.

But they both kept glancing at each other, embarrassed.

"You were really good back there." stammerd Jack.

The look on her face..

Why did he say that?

"I mean...the deposition line." he finished.

"Yeah, you too. With the deposition. That was quick thinking." she replied, her hand moving wildly by her head.

"Good teamwork."

"It's all about teamwork."

Then it was awkward.

He could've kicked himself.

"You know that moment back there, that was a...a response to a situation."

"Very effective." she replied, smiling slightly.

"'Cause I would never..."

Her face drops.

She blinks.

"Well, I mean I... wo..." stuttering, he scratched his head in confusion and trailed off.

He's digging himself a huge hole.

For a moment Sue looked truly devastated.

He should just tell her. Right now. Tell her how he feels.

They walked along in silence for a long few few seconds.

"It certainly changes our cover story." she finally said, breaking the ice with a slight smile.

Relief washed through him.

"I don't know.. I don't think it's a big problem. Do you?"

She thought, then replied. "No, Probably just a few more looks around the water cooler."

She smiled a little.

He relaxed a little more.

"Probably not the first time they've seen a boss/secretary thing."

They'd reached Sues car and she dug in her purse for the keys.

"Probably not."she replied, shaking her head.

Just as she pulled her keys from her purse they slipped from her hand. Rushing, they both crouched down to pick them up.

Their fingers brushed together and he held the keys for moment longer than necessary before letting go. He's certain he felt a jolt of electricity flow through him. Something which he'd never felt before.

He smiled, his boyish grin again tugging at his mouth.

She clutched the keys in hand.

"Well, I better get home." she said softly.

He was watching her, leaning ever so slightly towards her.

He couldn't look away.

He wanted to kiss her again. Properly this time.

"See how Levi and Lucy are kissing along." she clarified, then panicked at her mistake.

She looked mortified.

She looked adorable.

Jack laughed.

"Getting along. How they're getting along." she amended. Then she smiled. The embarrassment no longer a new feeling.

Their eyes caught and they watched each other, both wanting the other to say something else.

Jack sighed but was smiling.

"Yeah, I'll see you in the morning." he eventually replied.

Smiling, Sue nodded. "OK."

Being the gentleman he is, he reached passed her and opened her door.

She got in, smiled at him and pulled the car in to the road.

He watched her drive away, suddenly stunned with recent events.

He smiled and let out a small chuckle.

He really did kiss her.

It felt good.

It felt right.

He needed to kiss her again.

The End
