Disclaimer: Sorry if this breaks your heart, it broke mine when I first found out, but I'm not J.K Rowling. The Harry Potter world belongs to her, so anything in this story you recognize, yep, she created it. Now that that's out of the way, enjoy my take on her story.

Chapter 2. The Feast

The boy in front of me smirks and runs his hand through his unruly hair, "Hey Evans, pleasure running into you,"

"Shut up Potter," I growl through gritted teeth, "It may be a pleasure for you, but definitely the worst part of my day so far,"

For a second, I think I see Potter's grin falter, but I must've imagined it because his cocky attitude continues with the next words out of his mouth. "You know you love me Evans,"

I roll my eyes and walk away towards my compartment, "Only in your messed up creepy dreams," I respond.

"Bye Evans!" He yells after me, "I'll see you at the first Hogsmeade trip next week?!"

I don't even bother gracing that statement with a response, and I storm into the compartment in a terrible mood. "That arrogant, self-absorbed, egotistical, rude prat of person has ruined my day for the last time!"

Alice and Mary look at each other, before saying in unison "Potter."

"What'd he do this time Lily?" Cas asks.

"Just UGHH!" I scream in exasperation, as I pack up my suitcase, "It's not even a specific thing, more the fact that he exists is enough to ruin my day. I mean he appears out of nowhere, all the time, and his stupid smirk, and pointless messy hair! Is it truly too much to ask for him to brush it? Yet for sommmeee reason, every single girl at this stupid school seems to adore him! And yet, with the entire female population happy to bow to his every whim and desire, he somehow decides that asking me out every 5 minutes is the best course of action." I stop my ranting, and look at my three friends, "Well?" I ask.

Mary is the first to speak, "Okay, so Potter is a blithering idiot, as always. But, you, Lily Evans, aren't going to let him ruin your year. Right?"

"I know, you're right Mary, but-"

"No buts," Alice cuts in, "He may be annoying, but that's nothing new. So, this year, Potter doesn't exist. Just ignore him, and eventually he will shut up. I promise."

"Okay fine, you guys are right. I can ignore Potter most of the time, but what if we both make the quidditch team?"

"Well, I'll be there with you Lily," Cas responds with a grin, "Just ignore him there too, I'll help you."

"This may actually work," I say with a smile. I grab my luggage, and open the compartment door, "Okay, well thank you, I'm gonna go meet the other prefects, I'll see you guys at the feast."

"Bye Lily," Alice waves at me.

"First years! Follow me," Professor McGonagall calls.

Me and Remus are standing together, and making sure that all first years are finding their way over to McGonagall without getting lost.

"Hey Taylor," I call, "First years are over here."

'Thanks Lily," she responds, dragging two other first years with her.

Taylor is Cas's younger sister, and this is her very first year at Hogwarts. I was at Cas's house when Taylor got her letter, and she was jumping off the walls with joy. Literally, due to her accidental magic. It was quite the sight to see. Taylor is like a mini version of Cas, in looks at least. Both of them have the same dark curly hair, and chestnut brown eyes. Though, Taylor has a little more green in her eyes than Cas. Their personalities are very similar too, that I'd be surprised if Taylor was placed in any house but Gryffindor.

We finish getting the first years on the boats, and then all of the Prefects get onto the carriages, and make our way up to the castle.

When I enter the Great Hall, my breath is taken away, as always. I've been here for four years already, but still can't get over the beauty and magic infused in every part of the castle. The wide open ceiling is dark and starry, reflecting the outside night sky, and floating candles light up the entire room. The long tables are already full with students chatting and waiting for the first years so we can eat.

I slide into the seat next to Mary, and start chatting with Alice, Cas, and her as we wait for the sorting and Dumbledore's opening speech.

Eventually, Professor McGonagall streams into the room, with a group of nervous first years following her. They begin the sorting, and I tune out. I make sure to clap at the right times (when anybody gets sorted into Gryffindor), but I can't bring myself to pay any attention to the kids' names or houses.

Instead, I begin my mental checklist of what my duties as Prefect are. I need to make sure the first years are all following me, and show them around the common room and to their dorms. Oh, but before that I need to let the entire house know the password for this week. But, do I do that before I get the first years rounded up? Or do I tell everybody the password when we all get to the entrance? I am stressing myself out way too much over this. I'm very glad Remus will be there to help me through this, because I'm way too nervous about messing this up.

I'm snapped out of my daydreaming by Cas nudging my arm, "Taylor's up next," she whispers, her face strewn with worry.

"Don't worry. " I whisper back, "If anybody is guaranteed to be in Gryffindor, it's Taylor."

"Meadowes, Taylor!" McGonagall calls out. Taylor steps up, and sits on the stool, as McGonagall places the sorting hat on her head. Not even a second later, the hat calls out "GRYFFINDOR!"

I turn to Cas and smirk, "Told you so."

The rest of the sorting passes as quickly as the first half, and eventually Dumbledore stands up to address the school.

"I would like to welcome all of our first years to Hogwarts. I hope that you feel welcomed and at home in your houses, and you start your endeavours in learning. Hogwarts is a home for all who seek it, and a home to those who reject it endlessly. Remember that, if nothing else as you begin your journey here, and never forget, there is light in you all, if you only change your perspective."

Dumbledore pauses there to take a sip out of his goblet, before continuing. "Now, I'd like to introduce our lovely staff of teachers for this year:

Minerva McGonagall: your transfiguration teacher

Horace Slughorn: your potions professor

Professor Binns: History of magic

Professor Kettleburn will be your Care of Magical Creatures teacher

Filius Flitwick: your charms teacher

Pomona Sprout is your Herbology teacher

Lenard Wale will be your flying instructor

Professor Romeijn is your Divination teacher

Professor Marangoz: Ancient Runes

Ambrose Barner: Your Defence Against the Dark Arts professor

Professor Sinistra will be your Astronomy teacher

Then of course, we have Ogg, your gamekeeper, and Argus Filch, our caretaker."

"That is all. Your Prefects will take you to your common rooms, and show you to your dorms. Have a wonderful first night at Hogwarts, but before I let you go, I'd like to say a few last words: Cacti, Swat, Bibble, Groke. Thank you" And with that, Dumbledore ended his speech, and me and the other Prefects stood up to escort our Houses to the common rooms.

I clear my throat, and raise my voice loud enough for the Gryffindor house to hear, "First years, you'll follow me and Remus. Everybody else, report to the common room, and wait outside. You should know how to get there by now."

With that, everybody stands up, and groups off with their friends, as they begin the walk to Gryffindor tower. As he passes by me, Potter winks at me and says, "I'll be sure to wait for you sweetheart."

I take in a deep breath to avoid reacting to his taunts, and pointedly ignore him, just like Alice suggested. However, Potter chooses that moment to blow a kiss at me, and I can't ignore it. I am going to give him a piece of my mind. He is going to regret the day he chose to mess with me!

Luckily, Remus speaks then, saving me from playing right into Potter's game. "Okay, follow us. We're going to show you the way up to the Gryffindor tower."

"Yes," I agree, all thoughts of Potter now out of my head. "It may take a few days for you to get used to it because the staircases always move. But, me and Remus will be here to help you, and eventually it'll be second nature."

As we start the walk up to the common room, Taylor tugs my sleeve, and asks, "Who was that guy who was yelling at you?"

"That was James Potter," I respond curtly.

"Oh, you mean the git you always complain about."

'Under any other circumstance, I wouldn't condone that type of language," I tell her, "But yes, that git."

Remus snickers, at my obvious hatred for one of his best friends, and I roll my eyes at him.

"Okay, here we are." I announce.

"This is just a hallway," One of the first years states, unimpressed.

"Very observant, aren't you?" Remus says. He turns toward the Fat Lady, and says, "Good evening, would you like to introduce yourself to the first year?"

The Fat Lady suddenly moves in her portrait and turns to the first years, prompting multiple screams from the muggleborn students, "Welcome to Gryffindor, glad to have you in our house."

"Thank you," I tell her. "Now," I announce to the whole Gryffindor house waiting outside, "This week's password is Sortez Rufe. If you forget it, ask me or Remus, or any of your fellow Gryffindor students."

With that, the Fat Lady's portrait swings open, and everybody files into the common room.

"Now, this is the common room." Remus explains. "Girls dorms are on the right, Boys on the left. You may not enter each other's dorms, and I wouldn't suggest trying, or you may find yourself going through a nasty fall."

I take the girls and help them get settled into their dorms for the year, while Remus takes the boys. Then, I make my way up to my own dorm room where Alice, Mary, Cas, and I are rooming. I am absolutely exhausted, and want to just collapse on my bed without changing. But, at Mary's prompting I take a quick shower, brush my teeth, and wash my face. Then, I finally collapse on the soft mattress.

"Wow Lily," Alice giggles, "You weren't kidding about being exhausted."

"Tell me about it," I groan. "I woke up at 6 this morning to try and see Tuney before she left. But, she was already gone. Apparently waking up before the stupid sun is out is worth it to my sister if she gets to ignore me." I see my friends' faces all morph into expressions of slight pity, and sadness for me, and I quickly amend my words, "Better that I didn't get to see her though," I force a laugh, "Who would want to see Tuney anyways."

"It's okay to be sad Lily," I know I'd be dying inside if Taylor didn't want to speak to me anymore," Cas says.

"Yeah, thanks," I mutter, "Just, Colloportus, I shouldn't have brought it up."

"Okay," Alice smiles, quickly jumping into a long rambling story about her boyfriend Frank, and how he had met her after the feast to bring her flowers, and say hello.

"Awwh that's so cute Alice," I exclaim.

"It was," Cas states, "But, that doesn't mean he's off the radar for possibly breaking your heart. Until you two are married with a little child, I won't trust anybody with my best friends' hearts."

"Oh come off it Cas," Mary laughs.

"Nope, I'm deadly serious here."

"Sure,..." I say, "And if you start dating someone who is the 'bestest most wonderful guy in the world!' what would you like us to do then?"

"Well then, you guys just have to trust my judgement, what else?" Cas says as if it were obvious.

Alice playfully hits Cas's arm, "hypocritical much!" she exclaims.

"Duh," Cas laughs.

The four of us stay up talking for the next half hour, until we finally turn off the lights, and go to sleep. I eventually doze off into a peaceful dreamless sleep, ready to face tomorrow.
