Disclaimer: Guess what? What? I'm not a professional writer? How so? I'm not J.K. Rowling of course. So you didn't write Harry Potter? Nope. I own nothing relating to the Harry Potter universe whatsoever.

Chapter 7. Let's be friends

I laugh, "You have to be joking?"

"Oh no, Padfoot was staying the night, and the two of us snuck into the kitchen and decorated everything with purple frosting."

I stare at Potter incredulously, "You two are insane."

"That we are." He grins. I stare at him, lost in my own thoughts. He looks charming like this, with his lopsided grin, and his messy hair falling into his sparkling hazel eyes.

Then, his face turns serious, "So, there's um Hogsmeade this weekend, and-"

I cut him off, shaking all of my previous thoughts out of my head, "Potter! No! For the last time, I'm not going out with you."

He stares at me with the same serious expression, unwavering for a second, until he grins, ruffling his hair, "Of course, I'll crack you one day Evans." Then he turns back to his work without another word.

I sigh and return to working on the essay Professor Barner assigned to us. He gave us half of class to start it, but I've been talking to Potter, and have only written the introduction on my essay about the patronus charm and its uses. That's a sentence I never thought I'd think. I was talking to Potter. And not feeling any need to punch him. Instead I was staring at him… seconds away from thinking that he was… Nope. I am not thinking that. Potter is as attractive as the Giant Squid. With a personality to match.

A little while later, Professor Barner calls out, "Okay, now over the next few weeks, we are going to be practicing the Patronus charm."

"Few weeks?" Black calls out.

"Yeah," Potter agrees, "that's ages away."

"Well, if you think you know how to teach better than me, I invite you to come do it." Professor Barner says sternly.

I roll my eyes when Potter and Black grin at each other and start to stand up, "SIT DOWN MR. POTTER, YOU TOO MR. BLACK!" Professor Barner barks.

Now I remember why Potter has been nothing more than an arrogant prat for the past four years. It's because of that blatant disrespect for the teachers and the rules. Also the nonstop pranks and teasing of other students. Potter and Black retake their seats, and Professor Barner rubs his temples.

"As I was saying before that unneeded interruption-"

"Do you want a needed interruption?" Black asks, "I could become deathly injured in about 5 seconds. Come on James, just use one of those spells they've taught us."

Potter laughs and stands up pointing his wand at Black, "which one of the deadly spells should I use Padfoot? Hmm" he says thoughtfully, "I could cover you in boils, fly you out the window, set your robes on fire, or, I could always drown you in water… whatever shall I choose."

The entire class is laughing at their stupid display, but Professor Barner's face is increasingly growing redder. "Potter, Black! Detention. To the both of you."

"Oh no! Whatever shall we do," Black laughs, sending an air high five in Potter's direction.

"SIT DOWN! And see me after class!" Professor Barner yells, "Just work on your essays the rest of class. We'll start Patronuses next week."

I shake my head, and intentionally ignore Potter for the rest of class. When class is finally over, Potter taps my shoulder, "Come on Evans, we were joking."

"Of course you were," I scoff, "Cause everythings always a joke with you isn't it."

"And that's a bad thing?" He asks.

"It wouldn't kill you to take one thing seriously."

He smirks, "I think it might."

I shake my head and turn towards the door, "Have fun with your detention Potter."

"Wait. Evans!?" He calls.

I hear his footsteps start to follow me, but when Professor Barner calls out, "Potter!" they stop, and I hear them faintly echo as he walks away.

"You know, I'm beginning to think that Potter isn't scared of me." I tell Mary, Cas, and Alice that night.

Mary and Cas glance at each other "What do you mean Lily?" Mary asks.

"Well, if I was scared of somebody.. I sure wouldn't purposefully provoke them or argue with them.. Or talk with them."

Alice's eyes light up, "Maybe it worked, maybe you've already cured his fear of you!"

"You think so?" I exclaim, "That'd be amazing, I'd never have to look at his stupid smug face ever again."

"No!" Cas blurts out.

"No?" I look at her, "What do you mean no?"

"Oh um, just that no, I don't think that Potter is over his fear of you yet."

"But they were getting along in class," Alice says.

"And?" Cas says, "I think I know Potter better than you, and he still seemed uncomfortable."

"He literally asked me to Hogsmeade, and argued with Professor Barner in class. Did you see that too?" I ask

"Well, um yes.." Cas mutters, "But!" she says louder, "That's his um defense mechanism when he's scared."

"Are you on something Cas?" I ask.

"Lily!" Alice exclaims.

"Sorry," I laugh unapologetically, "You're just acting weird Cas."

"Hey, I am not."

"You're trying to tell me Potter is still scared of me. And honestly, I'm doubting that he was ever scared of me."

"Actually, I agree with her." Mary's quiet voice adds.

"You do?"

"Yeah, um, he's always acting more uncomfortable around you, and even today in class, he looked slightly scared when you were reprimanding him for his and Black's misbehavior."

"Well, even then, does it truly matter?" I ask.

"Yes!" my three friends exclaim.

"Nobody should be scared of you Lily. You're like the sweetest person alive, next to me of course." Alice says.

"Alice, you were on my side!"

"I was, but if Cas and Mary think he's still scared, I'll believe them." Alice says.

"But! I don't want to be nice to him!" I groan, burying my face into my pillow.

"Lily, he's not that bad. You're acting as if he's one of those purebloods fanatics." Cas says.

"That's the issue though!" I mumble.

"Blubble blub blub wizzle whiff?" Mary asks, "You need to speak up Lily."

I lift my face off my pillow and say, "That's the issue though, I caught myself thinking he was attractive today."

Mary outright squeals, while Cas's eyes light up, and Alice laughs.

"What is wrong with you guys! This is serious! Potter is a terrible person!"

Alice is still cracking up, "That's what makes it so funny! You think you're starting to fall for the one person you've never given a second thought towards."

Cas glares at Alice, "Shut it Alice."

"Hey! I'm just saying, that's completely absu-"

Mary interrupts her, "Does it really matter if you found him attractive for half a second?" she asks, "Are you really going to let that ruin your tentative friendship?"

"Friendship? Are you going insane?" I ask

"Okay, how about acquaintance-ship," Cas says, "Point is you're actually getting along with him, and there is no reason why you can't continue that budding relationship, for lack of a better word."

"I guess you're right," I mutter, "it doesn't mean I like it though."

"You don't have to like it right now. You just need to be amiable to him." Mary says.

"Exactly. Plus, it'll help with quidditch practices if you two get along." Cas states.

"Well I'm outnumbered here." Alice grumbles.

Mary leans over to Alice and whispers in her ear. I watch as Alice's expression changes from confusion, to shock, to understanding, to something I can only describe as mischievous and frightening.

"Alice" I ask tentatively, "Are you um okay? You look like you're plotting somebody's death."

"Oh, I'm perfectly good," She smirks.

"I really don't get why you're the 'innocent' one," I mutter, "You're outright scary is what you are."

Alice only grins in return.

"Okayyyy then." I mutter.

I groan in frustration, and throw my half-sparrow half-feather down on the library table. I'm struggling way too much with turning this feather into a sparrow. I just can't get abiotic to biotic transfigurations down.

"Need help with that?" I turn to the sound of the voice, and see Potter walking towards me. It's been about a week since his stupid shenanigans in Defense Against the Dark Arts, and we've returned to our blossoming acquaintance-ship as Cas put it.

Still though, I respond, "I'm good, really."

"You sure about that?" Potter asks with a raised eyebrow. He holds up my feather with wings sprouting out of it.

"Fine, I'm slightly struggling with the abiotic to biotic transfigurations we've been doing lately, but I doubt you can help me."

Instead of leaving like I'd hoped, Potter takes the seat next to me, and pulls a feather out of his own bag. "I haven't done my assignment either, so why don't we just help each other?" He suggests.

I consider what he said, and shrug, "Sure, why not?"

Potter takes out his wand, and reverts my feather back to its normal state. "So? How did your feather get wings?"

"I don't know," I groan, "I just did the spell, and obviously it didn't work."

Potter looks at me thoughtfully, "What'd you think of when you were doing the spell?"

"Um.. nothing? Or I guess I just imagine how the sparrow would look."

"You need to think of the process of the actual transfiguration and change. Especially with transfiguring something that's biotic and living." He explains.

I look at him, "show me?"

He nods and points his wand at his feather. "Avifors." I watch as his feather shifts and changes into a dark brown sparrow.

"How..? You did it on your first freaking time?!"

He looks a little sheepish when he answers, "Yeah, um I'm rather decent at Transfiguration."

"Rather decent?!" I exclaim, "I'm 'rather decent' and have never gotten something on the first time. You're bloody good at it."

"Was that a compliment," Potter smirks.

"Uh yeah! That was amazing!"

"If only I'd known this first year," Potter laughs, "All it takes to impress you is to just transfigure something."

"Shut up and help me Potter," I laugh.

Half an hour later, I've successfully finished my assignment, and turned my feather into a sparrow. Surprisingly, Potter actually knows what he's talking about, and once I started to imagine the process of the change, I was able to transfigure it successfully.

"Wow. Thank you," I say, "That's the fastest I've ever finished an assignment."

"Guess I'm just magical," Potter grins.

"Duh you are. You're a wizard Potter."

Potter bursts into laughter, "That's such a Sirius joke. You guys would get along so well."

"Would that be a good idea though." I ask, raising an eyebrow.

"OH MERLIN!" Potter yells, "I'd be killed. You guys would team up against me and kill me!"

The librarian Madam Pince calls from her desk, "Quiet in the library Mr. Potter, or I'll ask you to leave."

"Oops. Sorry Madam Pince!" He responds, "I should probably get going before she remembers all the other warnings she's given me."

"Okay. You're not wrong though," I smile, "Maybe me and Black should just become best friends and team up against you."

"Ugh, never put that idea in his head or he'll actually make it happen, and it'd be terrifying."

"Great plan then," I laugh.

"Definitely not." he mutters, and picks up his bag. "I'll see you around Evans."

"Yeah, sure Potter."

He walks away, and I turn back to my schoolwork with a soft smile on my face.

The next day, Radek has us doing drills for the entire practice, and I'm completely exhausted by the end of it. Me and Cas catch up to Potter and Black, and the four of us walk back to the common room together.

"So Black…." I start with a smile, "Let's be friends."

He turns to me with a look of complete confusion, while Cas grins a very devious smile. Potter however looks completely frightened. I worry for a second, because that's the exact look of terror I was trying to avoid. But, continue nonetheless.

"Uh what?" Black asks dumbly.

"Friends," I say. "Potter gave me a wonderful idea yesterday when he said that the two of us would be terrifying if we ever became friends."

I see Black's eyes light up, and he grins slowly and widely, "Why that's a wonderful idea Prongs."

"Evans," Potter growls, "I said don't put the idea in his head."

"Too late." Black says, wrapping his arm around my shoulders. "We are going to be the best of friends, Lily Evans."

"Why of course Sirius Black." I smile, "We will be an unstoppable force."

Cas is laughing now, "I've waited my whole life for this day to come."

"This is- no. I can't," potter groans, "Don't kill me please."

"Of course we won't kill you Potter," I respond.

Black smiles, "Yeah, maybe just a little pranking-"

"Or a little interference in your life," I add.

Potter turns to Cas with wide eyes, "You won't let anything happen to me will you Cas?"

"Sorry Potter," she says, "I can't fight against Lily on anything. Whatever is coming to you, you'll just have to take it."

"Great. Bloody perfect."

"Why yes it is Jamesy-boy," Black laughs.

"If you say anything Padfoot," James starts with a serious look, "I'll-"

Black winks at Potter, "No need for the empty threats My-dude-Prongsy. I've got your back."

"Okay, just stop it with the nicknames."

"Sure thing Potty wotty." Potter moves to hit Black, and he dances out of the way, "Last one I swear."

"Well, bye guys," Cas says when we enter the common room, "See you later."

"Bye Evans, Cas," Potter says, as Black waves vigorously at us.

Me and Cas walk up to our dorm room, but I freeze, pulling out my wand when I see the entryway.

"Lily? Move!" Cas exclaims.

"Shhh!" I hiss, "Someone was in here."

Author's Note: So this chapter took a bit to come up with, mostly because I couldn't figure out anywhere to take the story. And that is why, it is a smart plan to do story planning before jumping into writing something. But, I'm just writing this for fun, and not as anything serious. So, if it seems too repetitive, or like a filler chapter, or if the storyline doesn't make sense, that would be why.

Anyways, Adios, enjoy the future chapters when/if they're posted, and have a wonderful day/night :)
