Athena Cykes: Ace Attorney
Prologue

Athena's Apartment
Bedroom
My name is Athena Cykes, and I am not fine.
It has been two weeks since coming back from Khura'in, and I am already feeling horrible. My partner in crime, Apollo Justice, stayed behind to help the Kingdom of Khura'in repair its broken legal system. Boss was also a huge part of that revolution.
But…what have I done? Thinking back, I never really "ended" the Dark Age of the Law. What do I really have to offer? I simply became a lawyer to help Simon. Ever since that was wrapped up, I really asked myself:
What am I REALLY doing here? What is my purpose? Analytical Psychology has gotten a huge jump thanks to my power…but what have I, myself, have done to really CHANGE anything?
The one person that kept me going was Apollo. He always had that…swagger to him that made me believe I could do anything. Simon is great, too, but since he is a prosecutor, he has other duties to attend to. But now? I can barely handle myself in court. Oh Apollo…I hope everything is alright. He has not written to me in about 10 days.
All I really do is take up space once I really thought about it. The only time I am productive is when I change into my pajama tank top and shorts, lay in bed, and just…think about everything.
Boss is teaching me a lot. He really is, and I appreciate him for all that he has done for me since our return home. The worst part is, he KNOWS something is going on with me. He knows I am hiding something because of that damn Magatama. Why he hasn't asked me yet? Probably because he is respecting my privacy. He has a gentleman-side to him, I will give him that.
Oh, great. I am rambling again. Long-story-short, this change has not treated me well. The worst part? I do not know what to do. Miss Fey is still at Kurain, but she told us she had a surprise for us tomorrow.
This could be good OR bad. Change so far has sucked. Is it bad I expect it to be these days? Or maybe…just maybe…
A change can be good.

Oh great, I'm late. This is what happens when I think about my life choices late at night. Knowing Boss, he might make me do more paperwork.
When Athena walks through the door, she's greeted by Trucy Wright, the adopted daughter of Phoenix Wright. She has her signature blue hat, blue cape, and blue magician dress on, along with her red scarf. She quickly walks over to Athena with an anxious expression.
"Trucy, what's wrong?" asked Athena. Trucy took her hand and walked her into Phoenix's room and showed her bedridden father.
"Daddy was up late last night sick. He didn't stop until about three in the morning!" Athena panicked.
"Oh no…doesn't he have a trial today?!" Trucy nodded slowly, but her face lit up like she had an idea. "Wait! You can take Daddy's place in court today!"
Oh god, no. I was afraid she was going to say that.
"Trucy, you know how bad I am in court. I can hardly defend myself!" Trucy pouted, rolled her eyes, and took her back inside the main lobby.
Heh, she kinda reminds me of Apollo when she looks like that.
Trucy confidently stared into Athena's eyes. Athena could feel the hope she had for her. "Daddy would put his faith in you! Even our client! Please Athena!" Trucy pleaded. They could hear Phoenix coughing from the other room.
Sigh. I hate seeing Trucy like this. And it isn't the Boss' fault he's sick. I mean, stomach bugs happen. And…well, I think it's time to stop complaining and actually put some serious work here for once.
Athena put her bag down and sat down. She started up her mood matrix and got a pen. "Well Trucy, if I'm going to do this, I'm going to need some help. Go get the case files." Athena said reassuringly. Trucy smiled and nodded her head, and headed back into her father's room.
I WANT to succeed. The bottom line is, how can I really change something by complaining and moping? Apollo wouldn't let me do that for a second, THAT is for sure. It's like the old saying goes.
Athena Cykes…is doing fine. I hope.
Okay, so I have about an hour to prepare for this case, so let's get to the basics:
The victim of this case was Bill Neesan, a local mechanic from downtown Los Angeles. He was well known for his quality service and according to the general public, a well-rounded citizen with a healthy mental health record. He was killed by blunt force trauma. The murder weapon was not found in the initial investigation. One witness reported the crime.
Hmm…interesting. I know Boss would make a note of this…
Okay, the prime suspect, aka our client goes by the name of Jack Inobax. He's a teacher at Alexander Senior High School with a healthy mental health record.
Oh? This is the same high school Trucy goes to. Maybe that's why Trucy was yelling about taking a case earlier this week.
Okay, getting back on track, there's evidence against him, seeing as the camera shows him the last to come out of the store at the time of the murder.
Well, that usually doesn't mean a thing, but it doesn't look like we have the camera footage. How weird.
Mr. Inobax's fingerprints on the vehicle next to where the victim died, and are also the only set of fingerprints found inside the shop other than the victim's.
Oh great, that's more incriminating than the camera footage. I'm sure Simon will have a FIELD DAY with this…
There's also a list of employees and customers that entered and left the store that day according to the store's records, and the last customer was Mr. Inobax.
Well this seems hopeless, but if Boss was taking this case, there must be SOMETHING that doesn't make sense. Oh, would you look at that…
No motive could not be established during the initial investigation.
So, neither the murder weapon OR the motive was found? This means the prosecution has something, then.Time to look at the evidence.
It seems we have an autopsy report. Estimated time of death was 5:40 PM. Struck with a blunt object on the back of the head. Death was most likely instant.
Likely? This might be the most vague autopsy report I've ever seen. Estimated TOD, 'likely' instant death, it just keeps going.
A bottle of prescribed pain pill was found next to the victim. Owner of bottle unknown.
I have a hunch about this one…
The store key was found quite about twenty feet away from the victim.
Well that's odd. You would think it would be with Mr. Inobax.
Lastly, no blood other than on the victim's head was found on the scene. Likely wiped clean.
Okay, now this is big. Something tells me Boss was saving this as his trump card. We don't have any solid evidence to prove our client innocent, but there's a lot of questions. If Phoenix believes in our client's innocence, so do I!
"Okay, Trucy. Thank you for your help. Was there anything your father said about the case that he was onto? Any clues?" Athena asked nervously. Trucy was deep in thought but could not give Athena a straight answer.
"Not that I know of." Trucy says regrettably. "But I do remember him looking into the lack of bloodstain. Other than that, that's all I remember. Heh, good ol' Trucy. Like father, like daughter.
Athena smiled as she packed her things and closed the mood matrix. "You've helped me a lot, Trucy. No worries, okay? I'm going to defend him with everything I've got!" Trucy smiled, being reassured by Athena's statement. She walked out the door and went straight to Phoenix.
"Hey Daddy, I think it worked!" Trucy exclaimed. Phoenix quickly got up and chuckled.
"Yeah, it seems like it. Now let's get ready. You need to get to school young lady. It's your last day as a junior." Phoenix says as he throws on his typical blue suit.

Okay Athena. You put some solid work in even though it was only for an hour. Now go see your client.
…Oh Apollo. I wish you were here right now.
