It's my dear friend Brainyxbat's birthday today! I write a story with her on her page called Wingmen, which features her adorable OC Venus and the adorable ship Vesabi, which features Venus and Wasabi.
So I had to write a cute little Vesabi story for her birthday and I threw in a little hint of GoGozilla because why not?
Happy Birthday, Brainyxbat! I hope you have a wonderful day!
If you want to see fantastic art of Venus and Vesabi? Check out Brainyxbat's Tumblr! Because I'm not so good at description so that's really the only way Venus is gonna come to life.
Leiko "GoGo" Tomago had been friends with Wesley "Wasabi" Ginger for the entirety of his occasionally idiotic life. Honestly, she loved the guy, he was her best friend, but he had the tendency to need a whole lot of tough love to push him out of his comfort zone.
Fortunately for GoGo, that job didn't seem to fall on her anymore. Unfortunately for GoGo, Wasabi's new "friend" was an idiot too. Okay, maybe idiot was a little harsh. To be honest, both Wasabi and Catherine "Venus" Woods were geniuses. Clumsy, apprehensive geniuses, who both needed a little push.
Life seemed to agree that they needed a push because it pushed them down a flight of stairs together.
When GoGo found out about the accident she almost didn't want to believe it. She was on the phone with Wasabi and wanted so badly to give him an earful about being a klutz and getting hurt.
Instead, all she said was, "I knew you were falling for this girl but this is ridiculous."
On a different phone call Fred Frederickson the Fourth was teasing his own best friend.
"Don't you think you took head over heels in love a little too literally, Venus?"
Wasabi and Venus couldn't stop blushing. Wasabi blamed himself for the whole ordeal, so he had offered to buy her a coffee after they had their injuries treated. He didn't mind asking for a bit of help, so GoGo was en route. His best friend, his support system, and right now, his wingman. And he wasn't the only one who called for backup.
Fred and GoGo locked eyes from across the coffee shop. They both recognized their objective immediately, and GoGo grabbed Fred by the arm.
"You're her friend, right?" She whispered, grabbing a table far away from the would-be couple.
"Oh what, that klutz? Yeah, she's my oldest friend."
"Yeah, well he's mine. She's good, right? No skeletons in her closet?"
"Everyone has skeletons in their closet. It's mostly family stuff for her. Him?"
"Family stuff."
"Ah, then they'll be fine." GoGo was quiet for a moment, and Fred tapped his fingers on the table, not sure what to say next.
"We can't interrupt this," GoGo said, nodding towards the pair.
"Of course not, Vesabi needs time and space to grow."
"Vesabi?"
"Venus and Wasabi."
"I thought her name was Catherine."
"And his name is Wesley. Nicknames exist, GoGo."
"Right, right… So, we obviously can't go over there…"
"But we can still watch," Fred smirked.
GoGo met his eyes and smiled, "Exactly."
"Let me buy you a coffee. This could draw on for a while."
"Listen, Venus, I'm so sorry that you fell down the stairs because of me," Wasabi apologized again. He'd bought her a coffee and a pastry and apologized seventeen times.
"W-wasabi! It's f-fine. S-stop apologizing…" She brushed her hair in front of her face, blushing and nervous. He was so cute when he apologized.
"Oh, sorry… Sorry, I'm making you uncomfortable. And now I'm apologizing again, sorry, wait, no… Ugh! I'm such a mess. I don't know what to say to you." He couldn't help staring at her, she was wearing a blue-green plaid jacket that seemed a bit big on her and she looked so pretty to him.
"I know what to say," Venus spoke up bravely, "thank you. Next coffee is on me."
"Oh no, I couldn't-" She looked at him, really studied his face, and he could feel a blush rise to it.
"If um… If you don't like accepting gifts, I can make it up to you in a different way, it was half my fault for us falling down the stairs..." Somewhere in the coffee shop, Venus thought she heard someone snort when she said that.
"Oh no no no, Venus, it's not your fault, I'm a klutz, I would never blame you, I like you too much to blame you-"
Fred hit GoGo in the arm.
"Did you hear that?"
"Don't touch me. Of course I heard that."
"You grabbed my arm earlier. Now we're even."
"That's fair…"
"Your guy confessed!"
"Shh, we're not going to be able to hear what Venus says if you keep gushing about Vesabi." Fred smirked when she used his ship name for their friends.
"Oh!" Venus was red and he was red and both of them were staring at the table.
"Um, I-" Wasabi started.
"Don't say you're sorry," Venus blurted, "I like you too. I talk to my friends about how much I like you. I'm so awkward and clumsy and weird, everyone always says it, that I'm weird, I just… How do you like someone like me?"
"Because you're amazing, Venus… I've thought you were amazing since we first met. You're so bright and positive and your style is fantastic and your botany projects are incredible… I just… I don't know, Venus, you make me believe that things are possible that I never believed before. And now, to find out that you like me back… I don't just believe, I know. I look at you and I know that anything is possible."
"He's so cheesy," GoGo muttered, shaking her head.
"They're adorable," Fred gushed.
"Okay, Fred, let's make a bet, do you think they're gonna ask each other out? I bet that they don't have the guts."
"I bet you're wrong."
"If I'm right, you have to buy me coffee for the rest of the year."
Fred smirked, "Okay, but if I'm right I get to buy us coffee for the rest of the year." The smallest blush brushed across GoGo's face.
"You're cheesy too." They fell silent, watching Vesabi just stare at each other, silent. Awkward, nervous, and overwhelmingly in love.
"So." Wasabi said, "I um, can I drive you home?"
"Oh, sure. Thank you." GoGo smirked at Fred, she was winning. The two were gathering up their things and heading out.
Venus reached up and put her hand on Wasabi's arm, "Hey, Wasabi?" He looked down at her, blushing and smiling.
"Yeah?"
"We should uh, we should do this again sometime. Not the falling part. But uh, the, you know, uh…"
"A date?" Wasabi asked.
"Yeah!" Venus smiled, giggling to herself and relaxing a bit, "We should go on a date sometime."
"I couldn't agree more."
Fred winked at GoGo after watching the adorable new couple walk out, "See you tomorrow for our coffee date." He was smirking. Inwardly, GoGo was smirking too.
Outwardly she said, "Yeah, yeah, don't fall for me, Freddie. We don't want to end bruised up like them."
The thing was? Venus and Wasabi could barely feel their injuries. What was so bad about falling for someone?
