The sun has set for the day, and the moon rises to the cold night sky. Every shop, home, apartment, lanterns turned on their lights.
Every Yeti and human have already said their goodbyes and goodnights to their newly made friends for the day and gone home to their village up the mountain. Every yeti except Migo who stay in the Smallfoot village a little longer, waiting outside of his Smallfoot's apartment. Thankful, Percy and Brenda's neighbors did not mind have an extremely tall yeti outside talking a former TV host through the window at all.
"It's so sweet how you two talk together like that, you two made a beautiful bound." Cindy, One of their neighbors who live right across from them said. Percy appreciates that.
Migo has mentioned a few times how cozy and warm Smallfoot's room looked from the outside. He saw his little bed He slept on, the small desk he sits at, and so many more little thongs he had in his room He kind of wished he can somehow shrink and see everything inside the building from their perspective. Percy has told Migo to wait outside while he and Brenda eat dinner. Both of them cook dinner together, but Brenda did most of the work because she knew the recipe better.
They also manage to take the pancake off the ceiling that was stuck there since this morning. Percy scraped off with a spatula while Brenda held the still ladder so it wouldn't fall. I was a relief to that pancake down, but it left a brown circle on the ceiling.
"Nothing white paint can't do, right?" Percy said positively.
"Like it never happened," Brenda replied.
It turns out the recipe is a family recipe from Brenda's family. She cooked what she considers famous warm veggie soup that was entirely made from scratch. The smell of the roasted veggies only made the two's tummy growl even louder than ever. They ate at a little table on wooden stools in their living room while the TV played in the background. Percy is first to take a scoop with a spoon and puts it into his mouth. His face lights up.
"Brenda, this is really good. You make a bowl of mean veggie soup, I'll say."
"Thanks, Percy. I was thinking maybe we cook can pancakes for breakfast tomorrow."
"Yeah, we can do that. And just maybe it won't end up in the ceiling again."
Brenda laughs at that and takes a bite of her soup. "So, what are you and Snowball going to talk about tonight?"
Percy takes a bite. "Hmm, I really don't know. Whatever pops up in our mind. We will, for sure practice pronouncing our names."
"Oh, that's right! How's that coming along?"
"Not so good. I don't think we made any progress. All I hear is.." Percy made loud growling noise, mimicking Migo's growling noise and movement.
Brenda nodded and took a bite of her soup. "And when I pronounce his name, he'll say I'm saying it wrong."
"That's called a language barrier, Percy. And something like that takes a lot of time. Don't expect him to get it right away."
"I know, I know, I just..." Percy shook his head. Percy's words scrambled in his head. Brenda is right, though.
He was trying so hard to get the name thing under control. Ever since he found out the yetis have names, he has been determined to find out what Snowball's real name is. And Percy has a sneaky suspicion that Snowball wants to know his name too. Sometimes he wonders what Snowball calls him. He hopes it was nothing silly. Percy sighs.
"I just feel like I still don't know much about him."
"I feel that way sometimes when I'm around Wonder too, and I bet everyone in the village has no clue what the yetis names are." Brenda smile with empathy. "We just have to patient and willing, that's all."
Percy sighs again but only this time with a smile. "Brenda, why are you always right about everything?" He awkwardly a bite of his soup.
Brenda shrugs as she too awkwardly takes a bite of soup. "I don't know."
For the rest of the time, the two ate in in silents while watching one their favorite shows on FlexNet. Now with the soup all gone, they felt warmer from cold and relaxed as ever before. Percy got up from the table and collected the two empty bowls in the sink in the kitchen and rinsing it. "Snowball waiting for me outside, better not keep him waiting any longer."
"Here, let me handle the dishes," Brenda said as she came over to the sink by the and took over.
A grateful smile appeared on Percy's face "Thank you, Brenda. But you didn't have to do that for me, though."
"It's really no problem, besides it's my turn to do the dishes tonight," Brenda said with a smile.
"Ah, that's right. I knew that. I wanna get you started that's all." Percy said cockily. The funny thing is, he didn't know Brenda's turn on wash the dishes.
"And that's very sweet of you." She pauses for a second "Evan though you totally forgot it's my night to do the dishes."
Percy was waiting for her to say something like that. "Aaaand there it. Guilty as charged."
Brenda laughs. "But I appreciated, even it was not on purpose."
"That's...somewhat better then what you said before."
"I'll take that instead if I were you," Brenda warned with a joking time.
Percy stood proudly in his place, "And I will do so with dignity."
The two started to realize how ridiculous this conversation has gotten and laughs about it. It doesn't make sense at all. As soon the laughter dies down, awkward silence settled in the kitchen with only the sound running water and Brands scrubbing the dishes. Percy stood awkwardly.
"You should probably go talk to Snowball now, he's probably anxious that you won't show," Brenda said.
"Yeah, your right. I should probably go see him right about now." Percy said as he's exiting the kitchen with ease in his footsteps. "I'll be in my room if you need me or anything."
"Got it!" She shouted.
Percy then walks down the short hallway to his, wondering how that could that send off to Brenda could have been better and not feel so awkward as it did. Why did it come out so awkward? But it's all behind him now, and there's no point in really reliving it at all, moving on. He entered his dark-filled room and turned on his lamp to make the darkness disappear.
Before opening the window, Percy takes the fleece blanket from the bed and wrap it around himself for warmth. He unlocks the window and pushes it up, letting the cold air come in the room, slightly making Percy cold, but he didn't mind. He saw Migo looking through other windows but stops his eye's on a window. Percy watches in amusement for second before getting his attention. He is that Migo is here. He thought Migo had gone home right about now or earlier.
"Uh...Snowball?"
Migo flinched when he heard a voice behind him. He turned around quickly to see that his small friend is at his widow. "Oh, Smallfoot. Hey, You came out." Migo said immediately. He approached the window nervously. "I wasn't looking at that window or anything..." Percy tilted his head. Migo looked like a child that caught in the act, which made Percy rather curious about what on earth was going on that building that made Migo want to watch a bit.
"Anyways, wasn't this day just amazing?" Migo said as he tried his best to translate in hand signals, but he was so excited.
"Yeah, today was wild! I still can't believe we managed dodge trees at that sled race you and me. Although, we almost did not get out of that..." Percy just babbled on and on about how alive today was. Migo smiled, just seeing the little guy babble.
"Aww! Something tells me you had a great day today. I did too." Migo said he pointed at himself.
Percy read his facial expression. "Looks like you enjoyed yourself today too, buddy." The two exchange smiles at each other. Even though neither one understood what one said, facial expressions are enough to express so much.
"We should work on pronouncing our names now," Percy said with no slightest doubt in his voice.
Migo nodded. "Okay, I'll go first."
Migo said his name three times as Percy paid close attention. Migo even sounds out his name slowly. "Mi-go." And just as Migo expected, the Smallfoot makes high pinch growling noise like last time. It's quite cute to see him try. Migo couldn't help but laugh a little. Then the Smallfoot gave him 'are you laughing at me?' look at Migo. Migo tried to conceal his laughter. "No, I wasn't laughing at you, you were doing great, Smallfoot." Percy just gave him stare at Migo.
"Let's try again." Says Migo.
"Mi-go." Migo sound out again with an encouraging smile. Then Migo started to think what Meechee said this morning...So what if every time we talk to the Smallfoots, they hear something different. Of course, Migo knew it's just a theory that she and Kolka came up with, but what if they were right?
Percy makes the high pinch growling noise again. "Am I even close?"
Migo shakes his head. "No, not quite."
Percy sighs. He already predicts that this sort of thing is going to happen. "I swore I had it that time."
Migo assured Percy, seeing him down. "Hey, let's work on your name next. Maybe we will have better luck." He pointed at Percy, so he understood they are working on his name next. Percy nodded.
Just as Migo did, Percy sounded his name a few times too. "Per-cy." Migo paid close attention to how he pronounced it, the way his mouth moves so he can try mimicking it just like his phone. Percy could tell that Migo is working hard to pronounce his name, maybe a bit too hard for Percy's ears. Because all he heard is Migo growling of some sort.
"Pu-pu-pu-pu-pu!" Migo tries to sound out
"I don't think this is going anywhere, Snowball." Percy chucked. But Migo didn't stop; he refused the give up by any means necessary. Percy notices that in Migo. Migo was making these weird facial expressions, and his shoulder is tensed up as he tries to sound his name which kind of freaked out Percy and neighbors who witness it, no doubt.
"Snowball, take a breather. Your working way too hard on this, calm down."
Seeing the Smallfoot telling him to calm down, Migo stopped trying to sound out his name. He let his shoulders slope down. "I think I'm close, Smallfoot. Your name starts with a 'P'!" Migo said excitedly. "Yes!"
Percy is taken back by the excited outburst. "Huh, it's hard for tell, but I guess your getting...this close?" Percy showed the size on his fingers. The two smiled at each other in complete silence. Then Migo pointed at something in his room. "What is that ball thing you have there?" Migo said. Percy followed where Migo is looking. His eyes landed on a globe on his desk. "That's a globe. Here, let me show you."
Percy left to get the globe off the desk and came back to the window to show it to Migo. "This here is the world we all live in, you see?" Percy spun the globe around to the Himalayas and pointed.
"This is where you and I live, Snowball." Percy pointed at Migo. "You." Migo does recall Meechee telling him about the Smallfoot telling her that we all live on a ball. It sounded weird but somewhat cool at the same time.
Then Migo pointed at the blue part of the globe. "What's all that blue stuff?" Migo asked.
"That's water, the ocean. The planet is mostly covered in it." Percy explained. "But wouldn't drink if I were you, it's salty."
"Wow. That's amazing." Migo said in amazement. Then figure the colored patches is the land.
"The world is a huge place; there's a ton of things to see out there. I only have seen a little of the world, and it's animals, believe it or not." Migo realized how passionate the Smallfoot is about the world, like Meechee. He assumes that the Smallfoot had traveled the world. Is the word that big? Did he swim that far? Migo though.
"You seen a lot, I bet. All kinds of awesome things." Migo looks off into the distance, looking slightly depressed. Percy quickly notices, it wasn't hard to miss.
"All my life, I thought my village was the world, but now we know they're so much more outside the village" Migo smailed thankfully. "So much more."
Percy looked thoughtfully at Migo and back to the globe in the palms of his hands. He spun it gently. Percy knows Migo wants to see the world and its beauty, he carious, just like when Percy was in his youth. Percy glared at the globe as he thought of an idea, a crazy idea.
"Hey, Snowball?" Percy called.
Migo turned his head to the widow with a warm smile. "Hm?"
"...Maybe you can come to see the world, at least the cold places." Percy said as he pointed at Migo then the globe. Once Migo understood what the Smallfoot is trying to say, Migo's widens in surprise.
"Really? You mean it?"
Percy nodded. "Your friends are more then welcome to join if they want to, I'm sure Wonder would love to come." Migo couldn't get the words out, mostly because he couldn't believe it. The Smallfoot is going to take him out to see the world. How would it work? When would they go? Where would they go first?
"Smallfoot-" Migo was cut off.
"Percy, it getting late," Brenda shouted from the hallway. Brenda came in his room to see Percy wrapped in a blanket with Migo at the window. Brenda went to the widow with her eye on Percy. "It's time for Snowball to go home. I don't want his father to worry."
Then Brenda looked at Migo. "Hi, Snowball." Brenda greeted cheerfully with a wave.
Migo smiled, showing his teeth. "Hi!"
Brenda turns back to Percy. "Anyways, gotta wrap it up soon." She said she pointed at her wrist as if she had on a watch.
Percy nodded. "I will, Brenda."
Brenda nods back in response. Then wave at Migo again to say goodnight. "Goodnight, Snowball. Have a safe trip back."
"Goodnight!" Said Migo.
Brenda exits the room. Percy chucked a bit to himself. "Ah, Brenda. She likes to keep me on scandal." Then Percy gets back on topic.
"Anyways, it is getting rather late, Snowball."
Percy does a verity hand signal to get his point across. "You should head home now." He makes a little roof over Migo with his hands.
Migo nodded, understanding what he was saying. "Yeah, you right. I should get going right about now. My dad is probably wondering why I'm not home yet." Migo rubbed on the back of his head and smiled nervously at the Smallfoot. "Well, Goodnight, Smallfoot." Migo awkwardly takes a step back from the window. "Even though that's not your real name though." Migo takes even more steps back into the colorful city lights as watched where his steps. "But I'll call you Smallfoot for now. And you can continue to call me whatever you want to call me!"
"Okay, Snowball!" Percy shouted from the window.
"Until then, were figured it out!"
"I have no idea what you are saying!"
Migo started to disappear into the dark wilderness. He waved. "I'm leaving now! Get good night sleep!"
"Stay safe out there!"
Their loud exchanged ended when Migo completely disappeared from Percy's sight. Now Percy was starring at an empty street. Percy warped the blanket tightly around himself, feeling great how tonight went. He felt great. He closed the window and closed the blinds. And laid on his bed for a while, lost in thought.
On the way back home, Migo couldn't stop thinking what the world may be like. He had so many questions, more than usual. It's a good feeling to have. He claimed up to the mountain with a happy look on his face. When he arrived at the village, the whole village is sleeping in the dark. Migo kelp quite so he wouldn't wake anyone on his way back to the tower. When he entered his tower, his father is sleeping soundly in his bedroom.
Migo went to his bedroom and laid on his bed, He had a sleepy glad look on his face as staired at the ceiling. His eyes are heavy, he urge to yawn, he is ready to sleep. A few minutes later, he fell asleep, being happy that he made such a friend all those days ago.
