In the middle of the night, a blizzard blew into the Smallfoot village. The harsh wind howled loudly, and the snow is swirling from left to right on the village's streets and sidewalks. The roofs of houses and buildings begin to pail up with snow. The village lights are turned off, but the newly repaired street lights remain on as always every night.
Percy slept facing the ceiling in his warm bed under the soft blankets. His mouth is wide open, letting out a gentle snore. His chest rises up and down as he breathes. Everything but that, his room is quiet. Items in his room remain still and unmoving. But the jagged wind outside is the only thing that is heard. Then rattling noises occurred what sounded like it came out of nowhere.
That rattling noise caused Percy to open his eyes a little to see ceiling staring back at him below. His eyes are heavy and sleepy. All he heard is the loud wind and that annoying rattle. Percy can already suspect there is a blizzard out without even looking out at a window in his room. But that rattling noise is mastery. Percy did feel like getting out bed to check; he's too tired. But he knew he had to.
With his willpower and the bit of energy he has, he got out his bed. His bare feet hit the carpet floor and stretched his arms and finally got up from his bed. He sluggishly went to the window and peek through the blinds. And just as he expected, the wind is blowing snow every which way. Then thoughts started zooming through his head. Hope Snowball made it home before this horrid blizzard. He though. He looked on his phone to check the time.
1:39 AM
I really should go back to bed. Percy rubbed his tired eyes. That rattling noise is going have to wait till tomorrow, despite how irritating it is. Percy was about to lay back into bed when there are gentle knocks at his bedroom door.
"Percy?" Brenda whispered-yelled behind the door. "Are you awake?"
Percy stood up and went up to the door. "Yeah." He whispered yelled back. He opens the door to see Brenda at the door, looking tired as ever. She couldn't keep eyes opens either.
"Let me guess; the blizzard woke you up too?" Percy guessed.
"Pretty much, that rattling noise kinda woke me up too. It seems to be a little louder in your room." The rattling noise kelp going on in the background as they talked.
Percy scratches his head to get that itchy spot."I think blizzard may have blown down something outside."
"Hm," Brenda leaned against the door frame of his bedroom door and let a yawn escape thought her lips. "You know, this is the first blizzard we had since we arrived here, it's pretty wild."
"Ah, I have not really noticed," Percy said then he too let out a yawn due to Brenda yawning first. "It's colder than I thought."
"Well, it's a good thing we're in here and not out there," Brenda said with a sleepy grain on her tried face. "Want some tea before we turn in?"
Percy paused before he replied, "Sure, I'll like that."
The two made their way to the dark kitchen. Just like Percy's room, everything there is silent and remained still. Brenda turned on the lights to the kitchen and started making tea for both of them. While Brenda made tea, Percy decided to open the blinds to through the living room windows for a different point of view the blizzard.
"How is it outside?" Brenda said from the kitchen, sounded a little more awake now.
"It's like windy snow wonderland out there," Percy replied. He flops down on one of the cozy couches in the living room and holds on to a soft living room pillow, still looking outside the window. "I don't recall being this bad back in the states."
"Yeah, me neither."
Percy then look over to tallest mountain there is around here, it's hard to see it due to the apartment being little far from it at but at least got a glimpse of it. Percy still could not believe he was up there not too long ago. If it was not Migo, he would never go up that mountain and saw the things he saw. He may as well be the first person on the planet that went up a mountain being strapped to a yeti's chest in a sleeping bag with no climbing gear or oxygen what's so ever. What a fantastic achievement he would say so himself.
No doubt, he still had questions about the whole situation. Why in the world would Snowball come down from the mountain, leaving his village? Perhaps he was carious? It would make sense. After all, it does look like there nothing much to do around the village.
Of course, Percy many questions than just those. How does their system work? What kind of jobs do they have? Where did they find mammoths in a time like this? Maybe they save some during the ice age. What types of important things did the leader yeti do? Then Percy just realized something.
Percy turned his head to Brenda in the open kitchen, "Hey, Brenda?"
"Yes, Percy?" Brenda replied. She poured the hot tea into two mugs on the kitchen corner.
"I'm not sure you notice or not but that yeti leader guy, Wonder's father, has not been coming down with everybody else in a while," Percy said rather curious.
"I notice that too, I'm not sure what's going on." She had two mugs on the tray as she carried it the living room and placed it on the coffee table. She took a seat next Percy on the couch. "Maybe he other important duties to do in the village?" Brenda suggested. The two took a mug from the tray and blew a little on tea to cool it down some. "A leader like him is probably busy all the time." Brenda took a sip of her tea
"Maybe, but what kinds of duties, though? As far as I'm concerned, the village is pretty much empty for the most part." Percy took a sip of his apple cider tea.
"Or maybe he sick? I don't know."
"He must be rather lonely every day."
"For sure. I know Wonder has to be worried." Brenda said, sounded concern. She takes a sip of her tea. The subject is soon dropped. Brenda then looked window to see the blizzard has gone down a bit.
"Hey Brenda, I been meaning to talk to you about our show. I was thinking about maybe making a new show. Okay, just hear me out." Percy just talked and talk, he did not even make eye contact with Brenda to notice that she is not even paying attention but instead staring frightfully out the window. Her big brown eyes remind wide; she felt paralyzed with tea in hand.
"The show will be right here in the Himalayas. Where the show is going to teach people about yetis, their interactions with us, that their beautiful creatures and that we shouldn't fear them. Brenda, I'm telling you, this could change the..." Percy trailed off as he notices Brenda staring intently out the window.
"Brenda, what's the matter?" Percy asked, staring sounds worried. He got no replay from her. So he placed the tea down and stood up and walked towards the window to see what Brenda is looking at. It took some squinting.
Then saw it saw with his own eyes. His heart began to race.
Outside, is a giant, tall, dark figure who roamed humanlike in streets in a clam blizzard. It had a hood the shields its face. It looks like a giant furry shadow; it is almost tall like a building in the village. It seemed in widows in many building stealthily, ready to snatch. Percy couldn't tell what it was, but what it was, it stood on two legs.
"Do you see it?" Brenda finally spoke with whispered with a quiver in her voice
"Mmhm." Percy trembled. His chest became tight, and his hands are sweaty; he felt like he was out of breath. What is that? How long has it been in the village for? What is it doing? Percy's thoughts were running faster, and he wasn't able to think straight. He tries to calm himself, but it was no use.
Then the dark figure shoves its hand in an apartment building window, breaking glass with no reaction or remorse. Seeing that made Percy and Brenda's heart felt like it was leaping out their mouths. Only because they knew someone who lived in that building
"Oh my god, that's Hank's apartment building," Percy whispered. Brenda cover mouth to cover up her gasp. All they can do watch as the dark dug thought the room. And then pulled out something-a person. And that person is Hank in the figure's grasp. He was screaming for help, hopeful of getting everyone attention in the village. But he is quickly silenced. The creature smothered his face with cotton it had in his hand.
"Shhhh." Shushed the tall figure. Hank' s scream became quieter until there is none but the sound of the calmer blizzard. And that's when Percy and Brenda knew right it's the supernatural creature that has been taking people from villages. This was no hoax. It's real.
The figure puts Hank's motionless body in it's a bag. From the looks of it, it looks like it has been collecting some people in the village already. Then it's head turned right at Percy and Brenda at the window. The two gasp as they backed away from the window. The figure growled, seeing them. It started to approach the widow very slowly, knowing its cover is blown.
"We need to get out here," Percy whispers fearful to Brenda, he felt like he was going to cry and so did Brenda. She nodded slowly in agreement.
"Now."
They immediately slipped into their snow boots and got their jackets with no time to zip it up and put on their gloves and hats. They ran out the front door without closing but leaving it open. They rapidly bolted down the hallway, making loud footsteps that could wake anyone in their rooms. And they sprinted downstairs. Brenda is on the edge of tears while Percy is trying to hold back tears.
"We will get out of this Brenda, I promise," Percy said from the very bottom of his heart. Brenda did not reply, but she is more focused on them escaping and getting out of here alive. Once they made it to the first floor, they knew they couldn't take the entrance because the creature is waiting outside for them. So they quietly took the back door of the apartment into the quite blizzard. Percy helped the wooden door close silently.
They hurriedly tiptoe far away from the building as possible with only the street lights to light the way. And they hid behind another building near an alleyway near a dumpster, where catch their breaths. Percy had warmed tears coming from his eyes, and the cold breeze only made him colder.
"W-W-Why is it t-taking these people? Why is it doing this?" Brenda swallows.
"I have N-No clue why." Percy garb Brenda's hand for comfort. She is taken back a bit by that action from Percy. She knew deep down; he is just as scared as her. Brenda tightens her grip on his hand.
"W-What d-do we do now?" Brenda asked, nearly begging. Hoping for a perfect answer at this station they're in right now. For all they know, their lives are on the line.
"Umm...wait till it g-g-gives up on finding us?" Percy answered unsurely. Brenda didn't like how unsure Percy sounded. Then they heard a quiet growl from the creature, clearly search for them. But they could not see where the beast is, although it seems close. Too close.
Where is it thought?
All they could do is still and not make any noise to attract the creature to their location. The two started to get cold as the adrenaline rush wears off. The nightclothes did not make things any better. But they tried their best not show it. Then there's growl again. Only this time, they can pinpoint where the roar is.
They looked and met a pair of eyes staring right back them. It is on top of the building they hid behind. "Get back! Get back!" Percy told Brenda. Before they getaway, the figure garb Brenda and lifted her into the cold crisp air. "Percy!"
"Brenda!" Percy screamed. "Put her down!" Then Percy notices something significant about the animal when the street lights gave away a little bit of its appearance. Its fur is white as snow; its feet are large, it's hight is right around Fleem's hight. And it had Its bag where it keeps its unconscious human victims. It's cloak it wore to cover its face, saving its face hidden from all eyes. Percy now knew what it was.
A yeti.
"Percy run!" Brenda yelled at him. "I'll be okay!"
"Brenda..."
The yeti watched the scene unfold. Interested, it came down from the building and approached Percy front and center and crouched down to see his face. Percy thought he is going taken next, but the yeti stared him like it's the first time seeing one his kind-looking like this before. Percy tried to talk to yeti-like when he talks to Migo and Meechee for the very first time.
"Don't do this, please," Percy said calmly. He looked at the yeti with pleasing eyes even though Percy know for sure that the yeti could understand him. "Please. Let her go."
The yeti had sad eyes as it looks at Brenda. Brenda had a pleading look with tears flowing down. Then the yeti close its blue eyes.
"I'm sorry it's my duty." She-the yeti said to Percy with a whisper. Percy only herd grunting from the yeti. He did not understand. What was happing? What was it saying? With that, the yeti ran off with Brenda in its grip, disappearing. Percy stood there in complete shock with wide eyes as the yeti took off Brenda. A tear came down his right eye. No! Come back!
Was I just spared...? Why?
Whatever happened, that yeti just took Brenda, Hank and other people in the village somewhere.
What is that yeti going to do with them? Is that yeti from Snowball's village?
Why was I spared?
