Chapter 9

She was going to go crazy.

Levarra frowned at her phone, pressing Dean's name again and held it up. Three rings then his voicemail.

She shut the phone and groaned rubbing her temples. Stuck on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere Indiana. She couldn't find Dean and the longer it took the less of a chance he would be ok when she did.

So, she walked. Through the cool days and colder nights. Searching for Dean. Each passing second, she knew she was slowly running out of time.

Her boots scuffed the pavement as she moved through a grocery parking lot. It would be dark soon.

The sound of sparks trying to connect caught her ears and she paused, turning to the noise to see a too tall figure hunched inside a car.

Moving over she felt a sweep of relief.

Sam Winchester was in there.

She watched him for a moment, before clearing her throat and he sat up quickly. His temple whacking the steering wheel and she grimaced.

"I-I can explain" His face went red and she gave a half-quirked smile.

"A screwdriver works too Sam" his name slipped out and she clenched her jaw cursing herself.

Sam climbed from the car face visibly confused.

"How did you know my name"

She swallowed, "Uh. Your brother Dean. He's shown me a picture of you, told me about you too" She held her hand out hoping the lie would take.

Sam stared at her for a second before taking it. "Oh-kay"

"Call me Levi" she gave a weak grin "Short for Levarra"

"Levi…I think I've heard Dean mention it"

She shrugged as Sam pulled his hand back. "I'm a bit of an unorthodox Hunter…Speaking of…I am trying to find your brother. He called said he could use some backup" she gave a hand motion like a phone to her ear.

Sam nodded. "I'm actually trying to get back to him"

Levarra smiled, "That's good…he probably needs you"

Sam gave a laugh then motioned. "You… You wanna join me? Never know how much trouble Dean can get in"

She nodded. "Sam I'd love to"

Dean twisted, pulling on the ropes holding his to the apple tree.

"You still don't have a plan"

"I'm working on it" he snapped turning as far as he could.

"Just keep an eye on that scarecrow"

Sam frowned walking through the Orchard, Levarra close behind. She held a hunting knife in her grip. The two moving with purpose.

The demon shifted uneasily. Something was stalking them. But Deans scent was all over the orchard, and it gave her hope.

"I can't see"

The voice made Sam paused holding a handout to her. She jerked her head and the two crept forward as she flipped the knife so the blade would hug her forearm.

They rounded the trees.

"Oh my god! Oh my God!"

"Sam?!"

"Dean" both Sam and Levarra rushed the older hunter. Hunching down to free him. Levarra gave a quick sweep her knife.

"Levi?"

"You called me" she explained quickly.

Dean nodded rubbing his wrist. "Keep an eye on that scarecrow" She turned eyes searching as Dean slowly stood. Sam freeing the girl tied to the next tree.

"What Scarecrow?" she stood with Dean who moved around the tree.

"On the post-"he fell silent pointing at the wooden stand.

Levarra inhaled sharply. "That cant be good"

"No, we've got to go. Now" he gripped her elbow motioning as Sam helped Emily to her feet. The four rushed through the trees

"Dean, what's wrong" Levarra paused as a twig snapped somewhere in the orchard and she swung the knife up, Gripping the hunters coat with a free hand to tug him behind her with the others.

A light shined in her face and she was squinting at a group of townsfolk.

"Never mind" she muttered noticing the Officer with a rifle. She lowered the knife stepping back. Dean's chest brushed her shoulder blades.

"Please Let us go" Emily breathed.

"It'll be quick Emily I promised"

"Please!"

Levarra's nose wrinkled, something was in the air.

"Emily, you have to let him do it, you have to let him take you"

The sound of metal piercing flesh and bone made Levarra cringe as the screaming started.

Over the shoulder of the older man Emily had argued with she spotted a worn face that seemed like leather.

"Levarra" Dean's sharp voice made her blink. He pulled her jacket again making her follow them as everyone scattered.

They didn't stop until they were safe outside the orchard. Beside the Impala.

Levarra squinted at the rising sunlight. Beside her Dean pulled a gas can from the Impala's trunk. Sam and Emily hovered the Orchard entrance.

"You never heard of a Vanir?" Dean slammed the trunk shut.

"I'm not a particularly good Demon; Dean. You know that" She glanced at him as he lifted the gas can.

He chuckled, the two of them walking over to Sam and Emily.

"He doesn't know does he"

She shook her head at Dean's whisper.

"So, torch the tree that's all?" Sam had his hands tucked into his pockets. Emily was holding herself.

"Think so" Dean shifted his weight as the four of them stepped through the orchards entrance. "At least that's all I could gather"

"I'll go check the Vanir" Levarra spun walking backwards.

"What if it wakes up?' Emily looked horrified.

"Nothing I can't Handle" she shrugged.

"Take this" Dean reached under his jacket pulling his mother of pearl .45 free from his waist band and held it out. Levarra gave a quick wink taking the gun and trekked through the damp leaf covered ground to approach the Scarecrow.

As she neared it, her nose wrinkled again.

The Vanir just hung; its scythe held lazily in a slack grip.

She wrinkled her nose and reached behind her tucking the firearm into her waistband the cooling metal pressing into the small of her back.

"I wouldn't take any chances" she breathed and raised her hand. Fingers held up aloft. Her eyes flashed and fire burst from the Vanir.

She swore it gave a silent scream.

Emily was waving from the bus as it pulled away.

The trio waved back from the Impala.

"She's a good kid" Levarra drawled. "Got some shit luck… She's gonna be fine" she smiled gently as Dean nodded pulling his keys out.

"Yeah, Ok Sam Can I drop you off somewhere?"

"No, I think you're stuck with me"

"What made you change your mind" Dean turned to him.

"I didn't, I still wanna Find Dad and you're still a pain in the ass."

Levarra snorted.

"But Jess and Mom, they're both gone. And Dad…Dad is god knows where. You and Me; were all that's left" He smiled at his brother.

"So, Uh" he cleared his throat. "If we're going to see this through. We're going to do it together"

Dean took a moment as Levarra crossed her arms.

"Hold me Sam that was beautiful"

Sam playfully punched his brothers' arm. "You should be kissing my ass" Dean scoffed glancing at Levarra who leaned against the impala "I saved your ass dude"

"I had a plan" Dean stated.

"Oh yeah?"

Dean motioned to Levarra who gave a crooked smile.

"Yeah about that." Sam moved closer as they opened the Impala doors. "How come I haven't heard of her until now?"

"He's ashamed of me" Levarra smirked.

"Oh, Very funny. No, I didn't think that it was important"

Levarra held her chest as she dropped into the backseat. "Ouch" she mocked as Sam chuckled to himself.

Dean looked at her in the rearview. "So, you wanna stick around or am I dropping you off?"

Levarra leaned on the set, elbows brushing the brother's shoulders. "Up to you boys" She looked between them.

Dean hesitated but Sam grinned. "Stay, it might be nice learning another Hunters perspective"

She looked at Dean who sighed.

"Your call Winchester"

"Eh…might be fun" Dean turned the key. The impala's engine starting.

Sam leaned back grinning as Levarra sat back in the seat enjoying the leather.

"So, Can I just call you Levi then?"

Dean rolled his eyes at Sam's request and Levarra gave a sharp laugh as the younger Winchester grinned.

"Sure why the hell not"
