"El!" She heard Mike say as he ran up to her. El immediately grabbed his face to make sure he was really there. He was. He was alive. El moved Mike's head to her shoulder as he hugged her. "Oh your okay." She said relief in her voice.
"I'm fine. What about you? Did Billy hurt you?" Mike whispered to her.
"He...saved me." El whispered back both of them unaware of Max as she approached Billy's body. El was so relieved Mike was ok.
She had missed him. Their breakup had been hard for her too. She had purposefully moved the photo of Mike in his cute ghosbuster outfit from last year next to her bed so she could look at it.
And during the "Sauna Test" as Mike had called it he had saved her from Billy. Her hero. El had in return saved Mike from Billy. The stress of using her powers had caused her to fall back into Mike's arms. She had felt safe then.
And then at the hospital when he had offered her M&Ms how could she say no to his adorable face?
And as she had tried to look for Billy she had heard Mike's voice as he argued with Max about overusing her powers. How he loved her and couldn't lose her again. El's heart had fluttered at the word love. She knew what it meant thanks to the many soap operas she had watched while in Hopper's Cabin. Mike loved her. Her. And she loved him.
El had pretended not to have heard about the argument but once she and Mike were alone in the supermarket and he had told her how being broken up had been hard for him and that he was sorry and that "blank makes you crazy". Mike had started to ramble as he struggled to explain what he meant. El loved Mike's ramblings whenever he would explain what a word meant. And now he was safe. They both were. The Mind Flayer was gone. As El hugged Max and listened to her crying she looked to Mike and was grateful that Mike was still here with her.
