The Grace Kelly of Our Day...
The dress was fitted and tight in places that Daria tried not to think about too much, her hair had been styled and tied back into an elaborate bun, the borrowed jewelry from the Prince's collection felt strange on her fingers, wrist, neck, and the less said about all of the makeup on her face and neck the better.
'Wow Daria!' Jane texted after she had asked one of the servants (and she tried to avoid thinking about that too much) to take a picture on her phone and sent it to her oldest and best friend.
'I look like a wedding cake exploded on a roman column.' Daria sent back.
'Still better than the dress for Erin's first wedding, right?'
'Point taken.'
Daria heard footsteps and put her phone back into the small, white Prada purse that she had gotten as a gift for her birthday that year (had her parents anticipated the need?) just before the usher entered the room, "Madame," he said in heavily accented English, "It is time."
Daria took a deep breath, "Alright, let's get this show on the road."
The man who had served the Princely House of Limburg for decades avoided any comment on her Americanism and quietly ushered Madame Morgendorffer out of the dressing room assigned to her in the Eupen Palace and led her through the corridors where the rest of the main wedding party was waiting to be escorted to St. Franz's Church where the 'Wedding of the Century', as the tabloid media was fond of calling it, would take place on that fine morning.
The guests were already being seated, the wedding party was about to be sent, then once the Prince and his bride to be had arrived at the church would the ceremonies begin.
"I just hope that Quinn knows what she's doing." Daria thought to herself for the millionth time. Her sister had met His Serene Highness, Prince Gabriel of Limburg during one of her modelling gigs, and one whirlwind romance later with the young, dashing ruler of a European micro-state later had seen Quinn Morgendorffer give up her promising career in the fashion industry to become an actual Princess.
And she, Daria Morgendorffer, would be the Maid of Honor at the biggest royal wedding since William and Katie had tied the knot.
At least she had convinced Quinn to invite Jane to the wedding, she would have been alone otherwise since her last relationship had gone up in flames six months ago and she was quite single.
Daria found herself in the entryway of the Palace where their luxury rides waited, and outside the palace gates was a sea of well-wishers, press, and tourists who wanted to 'be part of the moment'.
The ushers were directing each of the bridesmaids and groomsmen to their respective partners, Daria found herself standing next to Prince Gabriel's brother, Prince Uriel. They exchanged polite greetings, having already met before, Daria found him to be nice, good looking, but not one for her brand of snarky humor.
The wedding party found itself stepping out of the palace with military precision, Daria did her best to focus on the waiting vehicle, which like everything else reek of more money than she'd see in a lifetime, and not the crowd outside.
Once in the car it didn't take long to get going, the church wasn't that far away but the drive would be sedate so the crowds lined up on the streets could see everything happening.
Daria prepared herself for a long morning, and the ceremonies to follow, she already knew what the dress looked like, having been given a sneak-peak by Quinn the night before.
Her sister would be beautiful, radiant, a perfect Princess.
And Daria would quietly play her part in this grand performance, and hopefully the reception would have good food, but if nothing else than at least Jane would be there for company.
Maybe she'd snag herself a Duke with a better sense of humor than Prince Uriel.

Notes: I based the 'Principality of Limburg' very loosely off of the RL Principality of Monaco and the RL Duchy of Limburg, the latter of which used to exist and now it's lands are part of the 'German Speaking Community of Belgium'. I decided to give the Prince's names that work in both French and German because that region has a lot of cultural blending due to lots of messy RL history too complicated to explain here.
