The Relaxing Power of Music
The last day of senior year was upon them, the time to wrap up your remaining finals, clean out your locker for the last time, feel a combination of anticipation-excitement-fear, get through your graduation party with family and then head to the REAL party with your former classmates, and have in mind your plans for the future, such as college, taking a gap-year, or hopping into the workforce.
But on this particular last day at Lawndale High a plan years in the making was about to unfold.
Ms. Li always left her office early to get to the cafeteria first, she liked to have most of her lunch eaten by the time the students filtered in during her lunch break so she could watch them for misbehavior without the distraction of eating at the same time.
And this was the opening our protagonist hero had been waiting for.
Once Li was gone it was a simple matter to slip inside, turned off the live-video feed, swiped the tape with the evidence, then took out a set of earmuffs and put them on, then opened a small case that contained a certain woodwind instrument, put it to their lips, turned on the intercom for the entire building, and blew a single note...
The screams of agony and horror the flooded the perpetrators ears, but there was no time for laughter, there was only time to run.
What sights were on display in that time, so many people with soiled pants and shorts, screaming like chickens with their heads cut off, too distracted to notice the one person with clean pants and running towards the exit.
Just within reach of the doors and then...
Something very strong grabbed Jamie White by the shoulders and jerked him around, breaking the spell of hilarity and adrenaline.
"Mr.-Mr. D," Jamie stammered, wondering what went wrong.
"WHY ARE YOU WEARING EARMUFFS?"
Jamie White fell the bottom drop out, years of planning down the tubes.
He was fucked.
