Daria looked upon her latest work with an irritated sigh, the creature 'born' (for lack of a better word) from the womb-tanks mewled in instinctive agony.

What was supposed to be the perfect genetically altered human thrashed slowly as it's deformed wreck of a mind tried to control it's body in vain. The limbs, both too many and underdeveloped and incomplete flailed, it's double-tongued mouth made the few pathetic sounds it could utter.

Daria pressed the button that would send a lethal shock to it's two hearts, ending it's life. The useful data from her latest creation had already been gathered, this latest failure had managed to show her part of the problem with the creation process of what was supposed to be the next step in human evolution.

"Well my old teacher did say that failure is the path to future success." Daria muttered as her latest failure seizure briefly before it's brief, agony filled life ended.

She glanced at the machines, wonders of both science and sorcery, and wondered if the next version of the perfect human would be closer to success.

If it wasn't though then she would do what she had done with all the others, keep the wretch alive long enough to gather data on it's condition and make comparisons to previous reiterations before ending it's life, dissecting the remains, and moving on to the next attempt.

Then once she had the perfect augmented human being, Jane would live again.

"It's just a matter of time." Daria noted at the latest augment clone of her best friend and the only human being that had proven worthy of her attention.

In the womb-tank a half-formed arm feebly hit the glass enclosure in it's tiny world, thrashing in anticipation of Jane Lane's latest half-life.
