Death
When Sherlock heard the news, he dropped the teacup he was holding. Mrs. Hudson was dead.
"Sherlock?" John asked hesitantly, knowing that his friend had just lost a woman he loved as much as his mother.
"When's her funeral?" Sherlock asked blandly, his eyes looking dead.
"Tomorrow, at 10." John answered, warily watching his friend in case he broke down.
Sherlock nodded and stood up. He grabbed his coat and keys and left the apartment, John watching him confused, before he got alarmed.
Quickly grabbing his coat, John followed his friend, worried that the news would drive him back to his addiction.
John didn't have to worry. Sherlock went to a jewelry store just a little to the left of their home and left withing minutes holding a bag.
"Just last week, Mrs. Hudson had seen a set of necklace and earrings in the window of that shop that she loved. I was planning on buying it for her birthday, but I guess now she'll wear them to her own funeral." Sherlock explained to his friend, seeing his confusion.
With that said, Sherlock headed to the funeral home that was taking care of Mrs. Hudson and then headed back to their home, John following along all the while, knowing that if he left his friend for even a minute, he would return to a high Sherlock.
John needn't have worried.
Sherlock played his violin all night that day, mourning the woman who took care of him so much these last years. The next day, he was ready to say his final goodbyes, his eyes void of any feeling, yet extremely intense.
Sherlock hated saying goodbye.
