Spark

Beth- Ann played a sombre tune. It was called Wishes

If all of my wishes came true, I'd wish for nothing but you.

Nothing but you.

Summer days and our baby wrapped in blue.

I'd wish for nothing but you.

Nothing but you.

But wishes get lost, they don't come true.

"That was beautiful." David Nolan sighed, having listened to the pianist play her song for a few moments. He had stumbled upon the piano bar quite by accident, and yet, seeing Beth Ann seemed to be entirely fated by whoever it was up there.

Beth - Ann turned and smiled. Her admirer was handsome, ridiculously so, piercing blue eyes, sandy brown hair, and that smile. Gosh, that smile would make her mama melt.

"Thank you- Mr?" she enquired gently. The melting smile was back and he chuckles.

"David Nolan."

"Well, thank you Mr Nolan." Beth- Ann got up for a break. "I'm Beth Ann Charles." She extended a hand and he took it. "Pleasure to meet you Miss Charles." There was a spark as soon as their hands touched, It took them both by surprise and it scared Beth Ann terribly. She'd had a broken engagement to Rob Stanton three years ago. He'd refused to let her follow her dreams. Yes, she wanted marriage and children but not at the expense of music, of passion, of how she felt when David looked at her.

"Would you like to go for some ice-cream? It's a hot day outside and I don't know about you but I could use a break."

Beth-Ann bit her lip, yes, yes, ice-cream sounded wonderful and she was due to finish in five minutes after all.

"Tom." She called out to the bar manager. "Do you mind if I finish early?" There was a passive shrug from one of her two employers so, she threw caution to the wind.

"Ice-cream would be wonderful." Beth-Ann replied. "But what do you need a break from?"

"Well, I'm a handy-man."

"A handy-man huh…well, you've definitely earned a break." Beth-Ann laughed. They walked together for a few blocks before they stumbled upon a nice ice-cream parlour.

They talked for hours between shared bites of a sundae it was the best either of them had ever felt. On their official first date, they finally kiss. Beth-Ann can't describe the feeling. It's warm and full of promise, there is a sense of care in how David kisses. It isn't rushed or steeped in manners. It isn't Rob telling her they can't do anything but kiss before their doomed wedding when in fact, in addition to almost crushing her dreams he'd been cheating on her with his secretary.

No, the kisses she and David share only grow in passion, like their love for each other. He proposes six months later and she loops his mother's ring on her finger before kissing him delightedly.

"I love you David."

"I love you my darling."

She thinks back to the song she played on her the day of their wedding. It was sad, full of longing for something she thought she could never have. True love. Complete, move the entire world for this one single being love. Yet, that song had brought it all to her.

She thinks of that song when their daughters are born and their baby boy.

She thinks about that song on their tenth wedding anniversary.

And as for Rob… well… he never got a single thought except, for a smile when she'd heard he was getting divorced on the grounds of adultery by the same secretary he'd cheated on her with.

Karma really is a goddess.

P.S. I don't own Once Upon a Time or Why Women Kill I just thought it might be fun if these two met.
