Ambassador Udina frowned in his chair, deep in thought as two electronic voices rambled through various names and ranks on a list, all promising, yet none seemed up to the significance of this potential role.
"Admiral, this is not a simple selection for the N Program, the choice we make here will shape Humanity's role in the galaxy."
The man he addressed was none other than Admiral Steven Hackett of the Systems Alliance Navy. A hardened, yet efficient and trusted veteran with formidable influence. "You're right; we need more than a soldier, someone who embodies the Alliance's principles," Hackett replied.
The second voice was Capt. David Anderson, N1 graduate, and a well-respected officer chimed in with a familiar name. "Well, what about Shepard?" That got everyone's attention.
Cmdr. Rebecca Shepard, a recent N program graduate. One of the first to reach N7 level training and a talented biotic vanguard. A prime candidate to be sure if not for the surrounding controversy. The likes of which to give Udina some pause. "The Butcher of Torfan? She got most of her unit killed in that raid."
Anderson was quick to rebuke, seeing as he was the one who recommended her to the N program in the first place. He became something of a mentor to her since then. "That's not fair! She's the reason why we got those colonists back alive." Hackett agreed, "That mission was doomed to fail, and yet she still pulled it off. That takes a special kind of grit."
"A mission that should never have happened!" Udina sighs, as he braces for the political headache, this will bring "But she is the best candidate so far." She may not be the kind of person he wants to protect Humanity, but she's more than capable of it.
"Very well, I will make the call." Udina resolved as he copied Shepard's record to his datapad.
