Chapter 2: Eavesdropping

(Blu's POV)

With my pilot helmet tucked under my wing I made my way inside the giant ancient temple used for the base's command center and hangar spaces, making my way past saluting base personal who realized my rank as I entered the command center. Looking all around, I eventually spotted not only my father and the prisoner brought from Wobani, but some of the top leaders of the Alliance, along those being Generals Dodonna and Draven, Senator Organa, and chief along them Senator Mon Mothma. Something big was obviously happening as I silently made my way closer in order to hear what was going down.

"You're currenntly calling yourself Liana Hallik. Is that correct?" I heard General Draven tell the prisoner in a rhetorical manner as he waited for a couple seconds before continuing. "Possession of unsanctioned weapons, forgery of Imperial documents, aggravated assault, escape from custody, resisting arrest." The general reading a list of charges from a datapad as I wondered who this woman is, but my answer was revealed right away. "Imagine if the Imperial authorities had found out who you really were. Jyn Erso?" The general changing his tone. "That's your given name, is it not? Jyn Erso? Daughter of Galen Erso. A known Imperial collaborator in weapons development."

Now I understood why this prisoner was important, continuing to watch as Mon Mothma came up.

"What is this?" The prisoner, named Jyn Erso, finally spoke up, in a light demanding tone.

"It's a chance for you to make a fresh start." The senator replied. "We think you might be able to help us." The senator added as she turned her view to someone else. "This is Captain Cassian Andor, Rebel Intelligence." The senator introducing the intelligence officer as the captain stepped up to the woman.

"When was the last time you were in contact with your father?" Captain Andor asked.

"15 years ago." The woman, Jyn, answered, keeping a steady look back at the intelligence officer.

"Any idea where he's been all that time?" Captain Andor asking as the woman lowered her gaze before returning it back.

"I like to think he's dead, makes things easier." Jyn replying.

"Easier than what?" The captain seeming to not believe it. "That he's being a tool of the Imperial war machine?" The captain asked rhetorically as I saw my father turn his gaze almost at me, like he suspected that I was here.

"I've never had the luxury of political opinions." Jyn stating.

"Really?" Captain Andor continuing. "When was your last contact with Saw Gerrera?" The question seeming to hit hard for the woman.

"It's been a long time." Jyn replied as easy as she could.

"He'd remember you, though, wouldn't he?" Captain Andor continuing to press on. "He might agree to meet you, if you cam as a friend." And before Jyn could reply, General Draven spoke up.

"We're up against the clock here, girl, so if there's nothing to talk about, we'll just put you back where we found you." The general letting the woman know what we'll do.

"I was a child, Saw Gerrera saved my life. He raised me. But I've no idea where he is. I haven't seen him in years." Jyn said rapidly, her tone being a bit louder.

"We know how to find him, that's not our problem." Captain Andor assured Jyn. "What we need is someone who gets us through the door without being killed."

"You're all rebels, aren't you?" Jyn stating as that was true, Saw Gerrera is a rebel, but well…

"Yes, but Saw Gerrera's an extremist. He's been fighting on his own since he broke with the Rebellion. His militancy has caused the Alliance a great many problems." Senator Mon Mothma taking my own thoughts and pausing for a few seconds before finishing her thought. "We have no choice now but to try to mend that broken trust." The senator saying as I knew what that could very well mean…

"what does this have to do with my father?" Jyn demanding as I saw Mon Mothma nod to Captain Andor.

There's an Imperial defector in Jedha. A pilot. He's being held by Saw Gerrera. He's claiming the Emperor is creating a weapon with the power to destroy entire planets." The captain revealing as I had to cover my beak at this rather unbelievable statement. "The pilot says he was sent by your father." The captain finished.

"We need to stop this weapon before it is finished." Mon Mothma stating as I agreed, such a weapon needed to be destroyed.

"Captain Andor's mission is to authenticate the pilot's story and then, if possible, find your father." General Draven explaining.

"It appears he is critical to the development of this superweapon. Given the gravity of the situation and your history with Saw, we're hoping that he will help us locate your father and return him to the Senate for testimony." Mon Mothma finishing as I saw Senator Organa step up besides his fellow senator.

"And if I do it?" Jyn of course wanting to know what benefit there was for her if she did what we asked.

"We'll make sure you go free." Mon Mothma promising what reward Jyn will get as that settled it…

With Jyn being led away by Captain Andor, the top leadership went back to their own duties as I watched my father walk towards me… I pretended to not be here as I hid away my face, but it was useless as my father addressed me with a direct question.

"How much did you hear Captain?" My father's voice said with a cool stern tone in it as I knew I had to answer my father.

"What's going on Blue Leader?" I asked. "What's this new superweapon and why is that woman important?" I needed to know.

"That is not any of your concern right now captain, your concern should be what the squadron is doing." My father told me, avoiding my questions.

"I beg to differ sir…" I returned. "I'm second in command of the squadron, I should be kept informed of all developments no matter what." I stood my ground, my father knowing he couldn't get past me.

"You're just like your mother you know, always hotheaded…" My father sighing. "Look, that woman is key to finding the chief scientist behind this new Imperial superweapon, we find that scientist and we get a chance to stop this weapon from being completed, that is all I will say captain and that's final and you are to tell no one else, not even to the squadron until the time is right, am I understood?"

"Sir, yes sir." I saluted as my father returned it.

"Good, now return to your duties captain." My father ordered me as I left…

(David's POV)

As I watched my son leave, out of the command center, I rubbed my forehead with my wing, debating whether or not it was good to tell my son. Ever since both of us joined the Alliance, there was always some tension between us, growing, I don't regret the choice in making Blu my second in command, but well even thought we were wing partners, I felt more and more distant from my own son. However, after losing my wife from giving birth to Blu, he was all I had left.

"Trouble with your son David?" The voice of Senator Organa asked me from behind.

"He's very stubborn, just like his mother, Blu never got to know her and yet he's more like her than me, Bail." I replied.

"Children have that effect sometimes, you know of my own daughter." Bail reminded me as I knew of Princess Leia Organa, another major Alliance leader and well a bit reckless, but very dedicated. "Just remember, you need him if we're going to get through these times."

"I know, that's what I'm worried about." I sighed.

"What do you mean?" Bail wondered.

"I just have this feeling…" I hated to admit. "That I wouldn't live much longer, you remember my one request I had if something happens to me?"

"Yes I do." Bail confirming that he knew my one request.

"Good, just make sure that happens and I'll be happy wherever I end up." I said as I made my leave.

(Blu's POV)

Going back to my X-Wing to see how Jewel was doing with the maintenance work I was getting done, walking through the interior hangar spaces, I heard someone call out to me, but I didn't hear at first, being in my own thoughts until the voice got louder.

"Hey Blu, over here!" The voice said loudly at me as I finally paid attention to turn towards the source of the sound to see a yellow canary working on one of the yellow colored Y-Wing bombers of Gold Squadron.

"Sorry Nico." I apologized, forming a smile as I walked towards the canary pilot. "I was deep in my own thoughts."

Nico, a yellow canary, was a pilot in Gold Squadron and a very good friend of mine since I joined the Alliance.

"Yeah, I could tell, I saw you hurrying to the command center earlier." Nico pointed out. "Something up?"

"I can't tell you exactly, but…" I started, pausing to well remember what my father told me about telling others about the meeting.

"But what?" Nico raising an eye.

"I promised my father I wouldn't say anything, but I will say that something big is coming." I said, not revealing any specific details.

"Well, if that means we finally hit a big target, I'm okay with it." Nico smiled, of course wanting as much action as I wanted.

"Yeah, me too…" I replied as I told Nico I'll see him later, heading back to my X-Wing and Jewel and well trying my best not to think about everything I heard that could possibly change the course of the Rebellion.

And I'll leave it off on there!

And even thought I left it ambiguous, I think you all know what David's one request is… (Think back to The Scarlet Rebel)

And with that…

See everybird later!
