AN: I know it's been a really long time since I've last updated but I'm back. Life and writer's block got in the way but I think I've found my muse once again. Meaning there should be more updates heading your way.
Chapter Three
"Are you going to Fun town?"
"Fun town?" Carrie questioned closing up the chart she had been working on.
"Yeah, it's the fair coming into town this weekend," the redhead answered spinning in her chair to face her. "Are you going?"
"I don't know. I think I'm working this weekend." Carrie looked up seeing Mackenzie raising an eyebrow at her. "What?"
"Seriously? That's the lamest excuse ever. You're not working so don't even bother lying again," Mackenzie leaned forward, resting her arms on the table between them. "You're going and that's final. I'll text you the details later," the redhead stated before walking away.
"They always say a man in uniform is sexy but that counts too right?" Mackenzie asked as they waited in line for cotton candy. "I mean they all wear the same leather type vest thing, so that has to count as a uniform right?"
"What are you going on about?" Carrie questioned glancing at the red head before moving up in line.
Mackenzie sighed in exasperation and rolled her eyes. "Have you not been paying attention? It doesn't matter anyway but I'm talking about him or them in general."
Carrie turned in the direction the red head was pointing, not seeing what she was talking about until a certain long haired blonde biker came into view.
"You're drooling. You know that right?"
She rolled her eyes before discretely running her fingers under mouth, causing Mackenzie to snort before asking the vendor for two cotton candies.
"Seriously," Mackenzie stated, glancing at her, as they walked away from the stand. "You have it bad for him. You're not the only one though and I doubt you'll be the last."
"I do not," Carrie argued in between bites of cotton candy. "Besides I haven't even had a conversation with him since Abel was born."
"Well maybe you should," Mackenzie answered before bumping her hard enough to send her into someone.
She was lucky the person helped steady her or she would have ended up on the ground like her cotton candy.
"I'm so sor-," she started to apologize before her words got caught in her throat as she realized who had steadied her.
"You okay?" Jax asked her, but all she could do was stare at him, like some groupie who was meeting their idol.
By the way he furrowed his eyebrows, she figured he must have been getting creeped out causing her to nod and breathe. Taking in the faint smell of leather and smoke along with a more woodsy and masculine scent. Something that almost had her leaning in to breathe in again but she quickly caught herself from making that mistaking.
"Thanks for not letting me land on my ass." Carrie's eyes widened and she felt a blush come on before trying to stutter out an explanation.
"Thanks again for helping her," Mackenzie said, swooping in to rescue her from further humiliation, before walking her away from him. "That was a pathetic attempt at flirting with him."
"I was not flirting with him," Carrie looked at Mackenzie. "That was me trying to thank him for steadying me."
"Which by the way was pathetic too," Mackenzie pointed out before looking over her shoulder. "But I guess your pathetic attempts worked because he's looking towards you."
"He is not," Carrie argued, getting ready to turn to look. Only to be stopped by Mackenzie.
"What are you doing?" Mackenzie looked at her, stopping her from turning around. "Don't look, just keep walking. You have to show him that you're not some groupie. Make him want and chase after you."
"Seriously Kenz, stop with the theatrics," Carrie softly laughed before taking in the serious expression on the red head's face. "He's not going to want or chase after me from one interaction. Like I said before, this isn't the romance novels you read. This is real life and stuff like that doesn't happen."
"Who shoved the stick up your ass," she retorted crossing her arms. "Because whoever did must have shoved it straight up there for you to be so negative and uptight. You need to let loose, live a little, get out of your comfort zone. Hell, get laid by a sexy, leather wearing, motorcycle riding, blue eyed hottie. Who by the way is still looking over here and don't think I didn't notice him look you up and down after your ass comment."
"Nice piece of ass isn't it?" Tig questioned looking in the direction brunette and redhead walked.
"Have some respect," Jax stated, looking at the curly haired biker next to hi. "That's my son's nurse."
"Getting touchy aren't we," Tig pointed out, trying to rile him up. "But how'd you know I wasn't talking about the red head?"
"Doesn't matter who you were talking about dickhead," Jax retorted, walking away before looking over his shoulder towards Tig. "They're both Abel's nurses, so show them some respect."
"How many times have we run into them now?" Mackenzie contemplated, pretending to think about it, before raising her eyebrow at Carrie. "Coincidence? I think not, I think that's fate trying to tell you something and if I were you I'd start listening."
Carrie couldn't help but roll her eyes at the redhead's antics. "Something is seriously wrong with you. Do we need to have you committed into St. Thomas to get your head checked?"
"Laugh all you want, but I'm telling it's fate trying to tell you something."
Carrie shook her head not willing to believe in what her friend was telling her. There was no way that fate would be tying her to someone like him or anyone else for that matter. Life hadn't been kind to her in her past and she doubted it was going to start now. Love was, in her opinion, something that wasn't in her cards. Not because she didn't want it but because she was unlucky when it came to it.
"Have you girls seen Tristan?"
"No, Mrs. Oswald, " Mackenzie answered the frantic woman in front of them. "Is everything alright?"
"No," she answered, barely keeping it together, as she constantly moved her head trying to look for her daughter. "We can't find her."
"We'll help you look for her Mrs. Oswald," Carrie stated, trying to sooth her. "Where was the last place you saw her?"
"She was waiting in line for that stupid ride over there," she answered, pointing to the ride. "I turned around to ask my husband a question and when I turned back around she was gone."
Carrie scanned the fair grounds."How long ago was this?"
"Fifteen... twenty minutes ago. We've been looking for her ever since."
Carrie nodded, still scanning the surrounding area, before looking towards Mackenzie. "Split up?"
"I was just going to ask you the same thing," Mackenzie answered, already moving to talk to Mrs. Oswald. "Don't worry we'll find her safe and sound."
Not having any luck in finding the young girl on the fair grounds, Carrie decided to go looking in the surrounding area.
As Carrie stepped deeper into the treeline she couldn't shake the uneasiness. The more she walked the more the feeling got worse. Her anxiety was starting to kick in and being alone in the middle of the wooded area was a really bad place for her to have a breakdown.
The faint sound of the fair was long forgotten and the only sound was the crunch of the dead leaves on the ground, along with the occasional snapping of a twig. However, Carrie pushed herself to keep moving forward while trying to use the moon's light as a source to take in her surroundings.
"Tristan," she called out while trying to keep her breathing regulated in order to regularize her heart beat.
Seeing a lump in the ground had her squinting her eyes before they widened in realization that it was a body. "Tristan," she once again called out, frantically walking closer.
"Oh my God," she stated seeing the state of the person lying on the ground. Carrie dropped to her knees, reaching out to pull the young girls pants back up before retracting her hands, knowing that any DNA on them could be used to find the people responsible.
"You're going to be okay," she softly reassured Tristan trying to offer some comfort, while searching her pockets for her cellphone. Holding it up to find a stronger signal before standing up and dialing the number on her screen. "Kenz, I found her."
"Shit like this doesn't happen in our town," Mackenzie pointed out on the verge of tears, watching as they loaded Tristan up in the ambulance. "How could anyone do this to a little girl."
Carrie didn't respond as she watched the scene unfold in front of her. She couldn't find it in her to respond when she knew that Tristan's life had changed forever from this point on.
She watched as on of the deputies in charge talked to her parents before turning around and heading towards her.
"Ms...," he paused once in front of her.
"Blake," Carrie answered his silent question. "Carolyn Blake."
"Okay," he nodded looking down at the notepad in his hand before looking up again at her. "Ms. Blake, I'm Deputy Chief Hale and I'm going to need a statement from you regarding what you saw."
Carrie nodded absentmindedly before glancing back to the ambulance as it began to drive off.
"Ms. Blake," the deputy chief said breaking her out of her reverie, causing her to look at him once again. Before she began telling him what he wanted to know. Hoping that they found the person responsible soon before something like this happened again.
I know this was a short chapter but it sets the events up for what's to come. I hope you guys are still interested in the rewrite of this. Even after all this time of me not updating and I hope that you haven't lost interest in it because I've just started to get my muse back. So like I've always said any ideas, comments or concerns are always welcome. Just drop me a PM, review or both whichever suits you better.
Also I've been thinking of posting my stories on Wattpad. For those of you who don't know what that is it's another website similar to this one. Only you can post your own stories on there as course you would still get updates here as well. So let me know in the reviews about what you guys think about that. Or you can always vote on the Poll I will be posting to my profile to determine.
Also for those of you reading Rags to Leather there is a poll on my profile regarding it. I've had it on there for a long time but i never got around to mentioning it. So it'd be great and help a lot if you guys did that one as well.
So with that being said I hope you guys enjoyed this.
