"How's he doing today?"
"Hey Jax," Carrie answered looking up at him giving him a smile. "He's doing better every day. Getting stronger."
"When are we busting him out of the toaster?"
"Soon," she smiled before taking in the limited space between them. Getting lost in the heat of his body next to hers and the quick whiff she got of his signature smell of whatever cologne he used with the scent of leather. Which only caused her heart to race and the butterflies to stir.
"I should make my rounds," she cleared her throat hoping she hadn't been drooling over him. It was one thing to do it with Mackenzie but it was a whole other thing to do it in front of him, where he was surely to think of her a some crazy groupie.
She felt her breath get stuck in her throat as he reached towards her and slipped a loose tendril of hair behind her ear. The tingling shooting straight down causing her to squeeze her thighs together. Her face flushing in embarrassment as he smirked at her. That smirk alone caused her to fumble with the chart, nearly dropping it and stutter in response.
She quickly rushed out of the room trying not to further embarrass herself all the while mentally smacking herself for acting that way in front of him. He'd be blind or completely daft to not know about her infatuation with him. Especially if she was acting like a fumbling idiot after a simple touch.
"You did not do that," Mackenzie stared at her in disbelief. "You might as well have 'take me' or 'I have a major crush on you' written on your forehead. Better yet, how about wearing a neon sign."
"It's not my fault Kenz," Carrie argued feeling embarrassed all over again. "It just happened it's like my mind went absolutely blank."
"Well your mind went blank but your lady parts got fired up with that simple touch. If you get hyped up this way with a simple caress imagine how hyped up you'll be if he ever makes an actual move towards you." Kenz laughed at the expense of her friend.
"This is not funny Mackenzie. this is a serious dilemma that I'm having. You and I both know that nothing can happen. There's a no fraternizing with the patients clause and I don't want to lose my job."
"Carrie just take a deep breath and relax. That clause goes out the window because Jax isn't a patient. His son is. so if there was any possibility of your interactions leading to more," Mackenzie leaned closer looking at her seriously. "You better take that opportunity and not let it go. You deserve some happiness in your life and a romp with Charming's finest bad boy will give you that."
"Hey, I just wanted to check on him one more time before we make that shift switch," Carrie informed him softly before checking Abel's vitals.
"You're done for the day?"
"Yeah but I'll be back tomorrow first thing in the morning," she answered as she finished up before updating his chart.
"Listen if it's not too much to ask," Jax paused before taking out a slip of paper and handing it to her. "I'm going to be out of town for a couple days but if anything happens with little man then call me. That's my cell number so you shouldn't have any trouble contacting me directly. My mom is closer so call her first but call me directly afterward."
"Sure thing Jax but I'm only here for the day shift for the next couple of days," she explained slipping the paper into her scrub pocket. "But Mackenzie is pulling a double shift tonight and then starting the night shift tomorrow. So if something happens I'll have her contact me and I'll get in touch with you."
"Sounds good," Jax nodded, giving her a small smile before kissing her cheek. "Thank you."
"No problem Jax. Take care and have a safe trip." Carrie tried to calmly walk out of the room and hoped her face wasn't red. If a kiss on the cheek had her reacting this way she could only imagine what an actual kiss from him would do to her.
"Hey."
"Any Luck?" Gemma questioned closing the distance between her and Luanne.
"Nothing really flagged," Luanne paused looking at the notes on her phone. "Uh, no outstanding warrants. She had a restraining order a few months back."
"Against her?"
"No. She filed it," Glancing back at her phone she paused to read her notes, looking for the information before showing it to Gemma. "My guy says the name was omitted from the report."
"What kind of neighborhood she live in?"
"Old Town. Pretty nice I think," Luanne answered, still looking at her phone. When Gemma didn't reply she looked up to see her staring away. "You really don't trust this bitch do you?"
A couple of nights later, Carrie was sitting at the nurses station going over some reports regarding her patients. Getting ready to take on her rounds after the shift change. Although they seemed to be taking longer to do, since her mind was on a certain someone.
"Have you put MC hottie's number to good use?"
The question broke Carrie out of her trance, however, knowing who was responsible made her internally groan. She knew how this conversation was going to go but she was not going to entertain her spunky friend and coworker.
"The number is for emergencies only," Carrie replied not looking up at Mackenzie.
"Well I'd say talking to him and maybe having a little phone sex classifies as an emergency," Mackenzie stated leaning towards Carrie. "Besides you need to live a little and get laid. You're getting too uptight. You need to de-stress and what better way than to get a little bow chick a wow wow with a certain leather wearing blue eyed hottie."
"Does your mind only revolve around sex?" Carrie questioned looking at Mackenzie in disbelief.
"Hey," Mackenzie put her her hands up. "I'm just saying if I had someone like Jax knocking on my door, there's no way I would pass up the opportunity. The man is walking sex."
"He's a person just like the rest of us," Carrie argued, shaking her head at the red head. "Besides he's not interested and even if he was. Who says I'm interested in pursuing anything with him."
"Girl don't lie. You know you want him. But if you want to live in denial go right ahead," Mackenzie leaned back, crossing her arms looking at Carrie with a mischievous gleam in her eyes. "But the day you finally give into temptation I'm so going to say told you so."
"Hey," Jax greeted tapping Tara on the shoulder.
"Hey," Tara grabbed the manilla envelope from her coworker before turning around to face Jax. "How was Nevada?"
"Uneventful," Jax opened his cut, smirking at her while showing her that he was unharmed. "How's he doing?"
"Fine. Your mom's in there," Tara nodded towards the room before giving Jax a small smile.
"Of course she is," He softly laughed. "Where else would she be?"
Tara knew it was a rhetorical question, so there was no reason to answer. Instead she gave him a smile and took the silence as a reprieve to look Jax over as he made his way into his son's hospital room. Taking her time to admire the man he had grown into.
Slightly regretting leaving him all those years ago but conforming with the fact that she was in the position she was in now. Only hoping he would have gone with her when she left but the past didn't matter anymore. They had both gone their separate ways but fate seemed to step in sending her back to Charming.
Taking this as a sign that maybe their romance wasn't finished just yet. The embers, of the flames that she had though had been put out when she left, were slowly starting to spark again. Only this time she wasn't letting go, if he still felt the same way.
"Hey," Jax whispered in greeting. Not wanting to disturb his sleeping son as he walked into the room.
"You okay?"
"I'm fine," He answered his mother as he closed the distance between them.
"Think someone could've called," Gemma argued, glad that her baby was unharmed. Yet she was still going to scold him for not checking in with her. It didn't matter that he was a grown man and could make his own choices. "I've been sitting-"
Jax swiftly gave his mother a kiss on the cheek. Effectively shutting down her argument. He could see the worry in her eyes but he made it home safe and sound. So there was no need for her to continue to worry.
Pulling back from his mother, he looked up and caught Carrie's eye who smirked and raised her eyebrow in amusement at the situation. Before she went back to fixing the IV machine.
"Hey little guy," Jax softly greeted his sleeping son. Taking in his little form in the incubator.
He was so focused on his son he didn't notice anything else going on around him. Briefly looking up he caught Tara looking back at hm from outside the room. Giving her a small smile before looking back at his son, completely missing her look of shock and disbelief as she took in the contents of the envelope. Causing her to shove the picture of Jax having sex with some blonde, back into the envelope and swiftly make her departure.
"He's all set," Carrie announced collecting Abel's chart after properly cleaning up the area. "Glad that you made it back safe and sound from your trip. Have a goodnight."
"You're on the night shift," Jax pointed out after glancing at the time on the clock. Seeing it was nearing eleven at night.
"Yeah I'm on night shift for the remainder of the week," Carrie informed wanting to continue the conversation. But seeing Gemma's interest as she glanced between her and Jax, had Carrie making ending it. "I gotta make my rounds. I'll see you guys later. Have a good night."
"See you around," Jax softly answered as he watched her walk out of the room. Continuing to stare out the window util he couldn't see her anymore.
"So what's that about?"
Jax couldn't help but groan, knowing his mother was going to interrogate him in the exchange between himself and Carrie.
"What?" He questioned trying to play it off.
"The little interaction with good ol' Nurse Blake."
Jax scoffed, shaking his head knowing where his mother's mind was going. "Just making nice with her. She is looking after my kid," He defended, trying to act nonchalant about it.
"She's one of the many who do. You make nice with all the other nurses looking after Abel," Gemma shifted in her seat to look at Jax more closely. "Because aside from a greeting I haven't seen you have a personal conversation with the rest. Or showing any interest in what shift they're working."
"It's nothing Ma," He answered, pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration. Whether it was at his meddling mother's intuition or at himself for showing interest in Carrie. That was something that he didn't know.
"Drop it," he sternly pointed at her. Knowing she wasn't going to fully take the warning, she was merely going to set it aside until she deemed the right moment to bring it up again. "I have enough on my plate at the moment. I don't need a relationship right now."
"No one is saying anything about a relationship honey," Gemma pointed out before smirking at her son. "She's cute though and unlike your previous relationships I like her so far."
Jax rolled his eyes, shaking his head. Knowing that Gemma was just saying that because there was nothing going on. As soon as she found out anything different she would go into mama bear mode. Deeming anyone unfitting for him.
I know its been aw while but there is the next chapter. Remember to stay safe guys with the pandemic going on. Let me know what you think. What do you want to see.
