Later that night they were washing their dishes up from dinner, walking up to Jane, Maura placed the last plate next to Jane.
"Thank you for dinner, It was delicious Jane"
"No problem, glad you enjoyed it" Jane replied finishing up and drying her hands.
Jane looked up as she heard heavy rain starting to hammer down on the roof, suddenly a bright flash of lightening and a loud crack of thunder exploded out of nowhere.
"Well that doesn't surprise me, it's being hot all week" Jane stated walking over to the sofa. As she walked round the front, the lights went out and Jane walked straight into the coffee table unable to see where she was going.
"Fuck!" Jane shouted standing back up.
"Jane, are you ok" Maura asked to scared to move from her spot in the kitchen.
"Yeah, I'm fine Maur, just fell over the coffee table that's all. Have you got any candles?" Jane asked, slowly walking towards the blonde
"Yes, there in the draw behind the sofa."
"Perfect" Jaen grabbed the candles before noticing Maura hadn't moved since the thunder started.
"Hey Maur, what's wrong?" Jane asked concerned, lighting the first candle.
"Please don't laugh at me. I'm not keen on thunder storms, and I really don't like them when there's no power either"
"How scared are you exactly?"
"Too scared to move right now, I mean in all honestly if you weren't here, I'd probably be crawled up in a ball on the floor crying" Maura answered trying to stop herself from panicking
"Oh Muar, c'mon" Jane stretched her hand out to Maura and led her over to the sofa before covering themselves with a blanket.
"You'll be fine, see! I've lit the candles and I've got a torch as well just in case. You'll be fine, plus you have me" Jane smiled at the anxious blonde sat opposite her.
"Thank you, I feel so embarrassed" Maura rubbed her fingers across her forehead.
"Hey, don't be. I was scared of the dark when I was younger. I'm petrified of spiders, always have being"
"You're not scared of spiders Jane, in the first week we were hanging out you moved that spider out of my house for me because I was too scared to do it myself."
"Yeah...I did it because I was trying to impress you. I was internally screaming and was on the edge of a mental breakdown"
"You really did that just to impress me?" Maura asked smiling sounding surprised at Jane's confession.
"Yeah, I thought it would make you like me more. Hey it worked you kissed me the next day" Jane laughed taking a swig of her beer.
"I was very thankful"
"Do you kiss everyone you're thankful for?" Jane raised an eyebrow waiting or an answer.
"No... I did also like you. I found you very attractive." Maura smiled remembering how close the two used to be.
"I know you did, checked me out enough time's before finally admitting it"
"You noticed that?" Maura asked, she thought she had gotten away with Jane not noticing that she was checking her out all those years ago.
"Yes, I noticed, what did you think I thought? That you just fell for me for my wonderful personality and deep brown eyes?" Jane joked.
"You do have beautiful brown eyes."
"Do I now?"
"Did...you know what I mean" Maura bowed her head and she felt her cheeks turning red.
"Hey Maur. You always say we never have enough time. Right now is a perfect time, you said yourself we don't know each other like we used too. Do you fancy catching up now? A seen as there's nothing more for us to be doing" Jane sounded hopeful ad she turned to face Maura more.
"I'd like that" Maura smiled, taking a sip of her wine before starting.
An hour later the girls were sat laughing from one of Jane's stories from when she first started out in the force.
"Wait, you pulled his shorts down after tackling him, he had no underwear on and you still thought it was a good idea to stick him in the back of the car before he pulled them back up?" Maura asked laughing
"Well I didn't know he was going to leave...un wanted...Brown mark on the back seats! I was so embarrassed, I got stick for the next month because of that!" Jane laughed remembering her early years on the police force.
"It sounds like you have had a great few years detective"
"I have, thank you Doctor" Jane looked down at her empty beer. "I've missed you Maura. Imagine all the adventures we could have gone on"
"I've missed you too Jane"
"Yeah, if I only I had texted back ey" Jane said looking up to meet the blonde's eyes.
"Jane, stop. I forgive you. You don't have to beat yourself up about it, I think I've given you enough shit for it"
"Maura Isles! Did you just swear" Jane gasped acting shocked.
"Ha ha, very funny. I'm glad we are back to where we can talk normally"
"Me too Maura."
A couple more hours later the two decided to head to bed, they both headed separate ways before falling asleep. Maura had managed to sleep for a few hours before a loud bang of thunder awoke her from her sleep. Slightly shaking she slipped out of bed and into the hallway. Opening Jane's door slowly she snuck into the brunette's room. Slowly lifting up the quilt she slipped in next to the detective.
"Goodnight Maur" Jane mumbled rolling over to face the doctor.
"Sorry Jane, I didn't mean to wake you. I can go back in my room if you like. I just, the thunder woke me up and I couldn't sleep after"
"Hey, it's fine honestly I don't mind. As long as you're ok."
Before Maura could answer Jane had already fallen back to sleep, smiling to herself she laid her head on the pillow and fell asleep next to the detective.
The next morning Maura opened her eyes and stretched before realizing she wasn't in her own bed. Looking to the side of her she recalled what happened last night. Noticing Jane was gone she climbed out of bed and headed downstairs to the kitchen. Rounding the corner she spotted Jane in a tank top and jeans cooking breakfast for them both.
"Morning, power came back on at about five this morning. Coffee?" Jane asked moving to pour them both a cup.
"Yes please, what are you cooking?"
"Eggs, beans and toast. I know it's not really what you'd eat but I'm going to go shopping today so I can get some more things then"
"Thankyou" Maura replied taking the plate and cup of coffee from Jane.
"My ma is going to come round whilst I'm gone."
"Why?" Maura asked confused taking a seat at the dining table.
"I know you'll probably be alright but I just feel better her being here whilst I'm out."
"Ok, I like Angela"
"Yeah she's still the same as she was when we were younger. Just be warned she will probably ask lots of questions, which feel free to tell her where to go. I have told her the situation but you know what she's like. Always things I'm hiding something"
Maura laughed. "I can't wait to have a catch up with your mother Jane"
"You're not lying, are you?" Jane asked lifting an eyebrow.
"No, I still get hives if I do lie"
"Well good luck with my mother then"
They both looked at each other laughing before eating their breakfast. They were both content with how things were going. They were talking and they were enjoying themselves. All they both had to do now is hide their feeling from each other not knowing what they were both thinking and feeling.
Hope you all enjoyed this chapter, was a slightly longer delay in uploading I did have a bit of writers block for this one.
