Previously on Young Justice: Rebirth
"Let's roll!" Tim declared. Everybody began flying, or running in Bart's case, as fast as they could from the dark fortress.
"So, how's it been going, babe?" Conner asked, looking at Cassie.
"Now's not the time for flirting," Cassie retorted, trying to stop a smile from spreading across her face.
"But you're smiling, so it's working," Conner said. "If we get out of this alive, what're you doing Saturday night?"
Jinny looked in the rear view mirror of her truck and saw a massive crowd of Gemworld soldiers coming behind them. "Now there's an army after us. There's a #$%^& army coming after us!" she cried.
"God, this is exciting!" Bart said as he ran.
"¡Esto es asombroso!*" Keli cheered, pumping her left fist in the air.
As the group flew from the rapidly approaching army, Amethyst put her fingers to her mouth an let out a loud whistle; she took out her purple scimitar, which lit up with purple energy. Keli, who was flying on the side of Jinny's truck, looked at the purple clad girl.
"Hey, princess!" Keli called out. "What's the flashlight for?"
Amy did not answer until her battle unicorn Ypsilos came flying on the right side of Jinny's truck. Amy smirked and jumped onto Ypsilos.
"Twilight Sparkle is back?! Awesome!" Keli cheered.
Jinny and Tim, in the driver and passenger side respectively, looked on in amusement at Amy flying on the unicorn.
"She really is some kinda Disney Princess ain't she?" Jinny commented.
"I'll say," Tim replied. "It's cool that she can call down unicorns, but somebody should tell Amy that her purple lightsaber just gave our position away to more people who wanna kill us."
"Thinkin' the same thing, bird-boy," Jinny said. "We gon' die, ain't we?"
"Not likely."
The group continued to fly away until a giant explosion of blue erupted from the ground, blocking them and making them stumble.
"Oh #$%!" Conner swore. He quickly helped Bart up from the ground.
Cassie squinted her eyes to get a better look; her suspicions were confirmed when Dark Lord Opal emerged from the dust clouds, with two demonic dogs on both his sides.
"You children never cease to surprise me," Opal said. He looked down at Amy, who turned her purple scimitar into a katana blade. "Hello there, Amethyst. How's your family?"
"Go #$% yourself, Opal," the princess of Gemworld growled.
"How ladylike," Opal snarked.
Conner scoffed and crossed his arms. "So, to what do we owe His Asshat-ness, the Dark Lord Opal?"
Opal scowled at Conner. "It's a good thing you're aware of me, Kryptonian. Because I know all your secrets." As he finished his sentence, Opal took out a chain, but it was no ordinary one.
It was a chain with a piece of Kryptonite attached to the end.
Conner's breath hitched in his throat and he sunk to the ground, weakened. Tim and Jinny went to assist the downed son of Superman.
"Y'all ok, boy?" Jinny questioned.
Tim looked up at Amy. "How in the #$% does he have Kryptonite?! How?!"
"It's not the first time he's been to Earth, Robin," Amy explained, keeping her eyes locked on Opal. Jinny stood up and took out her two Rannian ray guns, pointing them at the Dark Lord.
Tim scowled, defiant, at the Dark Opal. "Yeah, that's right! I'm asking you, #$% for brains! How does someone like you get a piece of Kryptonite from Earth?"
"Sssshut up, Robin," Conner hissed, his voice rinsed in pain. The entire group now stood on edge during this confrontation; Bart, on the other hand, was waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
"Come on, man," Cassie said, floating in the air. "There's an army behind us getting here fast!"
Opal sneered at the Boy Wonder, stepping forward menacingly. "You people have been trespassing violently into my world. You have the audacity to question me? What's yours is now mine." Opal darted his eyes toward Amy. "That includes the entire House of Amethyst. You were warned Amy: don't mess with us. You have no one to bla-"
Conner stood up, his movements shaky. "I-I-I'll m-make you a d-deal, Opal," he gritted out.
Opal laughed derisively at that. "Please. What could you or anyone of you possibly offer me that I don't already have?"
"Lots of things," Conner said, vague.
At that moment, the impulsive speedster zoomed toward the piece of Kryptonite, snatched it off its chain and ran all the way to the nearest gorge (which was actually thousands of miles away, for the record) and tossed it down. He quickly ran back toward the group and stood next to Jinny.
Did I mention that this all happened before any of them could blink their eyes? Because it did.
Opal could only look at his now Kryptonite-less chain in shock. "Impossible," he mumbled.
Feeling strengthened and emboldened, Conner stood up and flew at the Dark Lord, punching him directly in the face. Cassie and Amy also joined in the fray.
Jinny, Keli, Bart, and Tim on the other hand, had to deal with the now arrived army of Opal soldiers. The Texan gunslinger twirled her two ray guns and smirked.
"Get 'em, boy!" she cried out. She shot at the two nearest soldiers, incapacitating both. More of the army began emerging until the Teen Lantern conjured up a giant green mallet and began batting them away like flies. Those who were batted away screamed in terror.
"Take that! And that!" the eleven year old said, knocking more and more away. "BAM! POW! Boom-shaka-laka!"
Tim Drake was dueling one of the soldiers in bo-staff to hand; the Boy Wonder easily flipped over him and whacked him upside the end, sending him into unconsciousness. Without even looking, Tim also whacked another soldier clean across the jaw and the groin.
Bart simply zipped through the crowd, knocking out any Gemworld soldier that he could; the effect was similar to a pinball machine. Zipping through the crowd, Bart saw one soldier prepared to drive a spear through an unaware Jinny's head; he sped over and side kicked the soldier in the head, sending him flying.
Bart looked over at Jinny, who smiled and nodded; he flashed a thumbs up at her.
The gunslinger looked over at the rapidly growing army. "Fifty down, a #$% ton more to go," she said, still shooting at the army.
Meanwhile...
In the ensuing battle between Opal, Cassie, Conner, and Amethyst, there was no clear side winning or losing.
The Dark Lord grunted in pain as Amy charged toward him and slashed him in the chest with her amethyst katana; she attempted to stab at him in the same place but he managed to narrowly avoid that one. Taking a chance, Opal grabbed Amethyst and harshly slammed her to the ground; seeing her dazed, Opal unleashed a black tendril from his left arm and it wrapped around her torso.
'Uh-oh,' the princess internalized, struggling to break free. 'I've seen enough hentai to know where this is going.'
"Just give up, Amethyst! It's useless!" Opal shouted, boastful.
"YOU'RE USELESS!"
Opal turned his head to see Cassie and Conner flying toward him; the two powerhouses knocked him away from Amy, who was free from his tendrils. Without missing a beat, Amy picked up her katana and ran over to Cassie and Conner.
The blonde Amazon and the half-Kryptonian double teamed the Dark Lord, who was currently focusing on Conner. The Superboy began laying haymakers on him.
"Come on, #$! Show me what you got!" he taunted; as he punched Opal, the Dark Lord stumbled backwards. "SHOW ME WHAT YOU GO-"
Conner's trash talk was interrupted when Opal caught his next fist. "Well, ok then," the Superboy said, knowing what was about to happen.
"You're in my house now, boy."
*POW*
Opal sent Conner flying away somewhere in the distance.
Narrowing her eyes, Cassie charged forth and kneed him in the abdomen, making Opal grunt in pain; she then backhanded him in the face.
"This is gonna hurt!" Cassie shouted as she judo-flipped the Dark Lord over her shoulder; when he landed, Cassie put her foot on his chest. The Dark Lord growled and was met with the purple katana blade of the princess.
"Give it up, Opal. You just got dunked on!" Amy boasted. "Now call off your army!"
Opal only smirked. "You're just making this too easy, Amethyst."
A surge of energy burst forward from the Dark Lord, sending Cassie and Amy tumbling away. Recovering, Amy looked down at the ground and noticed something odd; where there was once dirt, there was now a flickering between dirt and jungle litter. The effect was similar to watching a TV that flickered between static and picture.
Cassie noticed this also. "What's going on, Amy?!"
"It's Opal! This is what-"
The seven members of the newly formed team all of a sudden were tumbling and falling on top of or around each other; Jinny thankfully landed right on the chest in the back of her pickup truck. All seven of the teens groaned in pain and exhaustion.
"Guys! Guys!" Bart called out. "What the eff just happened?!"
"Ok, head count!" Tim Drake called out. "Everybody good? Sound off!"
Conner walked toward Tim, shaking his head and chuckling. "We've never done or heard that one before..."
Keli Quintela shook her wavy hair, trying to get tree branches and leaves out of it. "Where the hell are we now?" the Teen Lantern questioned, looking around the area. The environment, once comparable to a desert, was now a lush jungle filled with trees, opal crystals, and moss covered the ground.
" #$% just keeps gettin' weirder and weirder," Jinny said, throwing the front part of her poncho over her shoulder and holstering her two ray guns. Her poncho was now worn and dirty from fighting.
Cassie spat out a few leaves. "Ech," she cried, disgusted. She looked around the new environment. "Hey, is it just me, or does everything look different?"
"No. Gemworld just...shifted right under our feet, which scared the #$% out of me," Tim said.
"And he's an apprentice of the Bat," Bart joked.
"Bart!" Cassie scolded. "This is no time for jokes!"
Tim looked over at Amy and walked toward her. "Amy. You're the only one of us that knows how this world works. Tell us what's happening."
The princess of Gemworld sighed. "Alright, here's the thing. On Gemworld, I am Amethyst-"
"Yeah! No #$%, Sherlock!" Jinny snarked.
"Oh my God, can you let me say what I need to say?!" Amy snapped back. "Thank you. Anyways, what just happened is confirmation of something I feared. It's Opal."
"What about the cojudo*?" Teen Lantern called out, walking closer to the group.
"Remember back in the pit when I mentioned the Gem Council and the Crisis?" Everyone nodded and agreed. Amy ran a hand through her long, purple hair and continued. "They hypothesized that because of the major crises that's occurred throughout history, reality shifts on a whim. I didn't believe it at all, until the last time I fought Opal. I learned that Dark Opal's power is so corrupted that he's able to basically shift reality here on Gemworld."
"This news coulda been helpful back in the pit, princess!" Jinny said.
"Enough!" Tim ordered.
"No, she's right," Amy said. "I should've said something. I feel like this is all my fault. We could've been better prepared."
"Hey, hey. Stow that talk," Tim said, patting Amy on the shoulder. "There's no way you could've known that His Asshat-ness would shift reality just on a whim."
"Hey, that's my line!" Conner complained. He walked over to the princess of Gemworld; the half-Kryptonian did take note that Amy was almost as tall as he was, just off by an inch.
"So, princess. Didn't get to say hi back there," he began. "I'm Superboy. And you really are Amethyst, huh?"
Amy smiled and nodded. "The one and only. I see you've heard of me."
"Being stuck here for what feels like an eternity, you hear some crazy #$%," Conner said. He soon stroked the scruff on his face. "I seriously need a shave."
"Right now is a momentary reprieve!" Tim said. "We need to find out exactly how we're gonna defeat Dark Opal and get off Gemworld."
"No need to worry," Amy said. "Once we're done with this, I can get the Gem Council to send us all home."
"Uh, us?" Bart asked. "You included, right?"
"Yep," Amy said. "I was originally raised on Earth." The purple haired princess laughed and did an awkward 'flag waving' gesture. "Go Patriots!"
