DT sighed. They were nowhere closer to who Buddy was. She stared out the window into the falling snow of Snowdin. She wanted to slam her head into the table out of frustration, but that would cause damage to the table.
And Undyne already broke it in half.
DT ran her hand through her short hair out of stress. She was tired.
"Heya, kiddo." She heard a voice say, she turned around quickly and saw Sans holding two cups of coffee. "What are you thinking about?"
"Just about Buddy and everything going on. It's driving me nuts." DT admitted. Sans handed her one of the cups. "Thanks, I needed this."
"Anytime, kiddo." Sans said as he sat next to her. There was a tense moment of silence until one of them spoke up.
"So who do you think Buddy is?" DT asked Sans.
"Honestly, I don't know." Sans admitted. "But I might have a few theories."
"Like what?"
"Well, for one, Buddy could be an old colleague of mine."
"You mean Gaster?"
"Yeah, him." Sans confirmed. "I mean, he could fit the bill. He's tall and male. Also, when I knew him, he use to carry a mask with him around wherever he went. Not sure why."
"But if Gaster is Buddy, why would Frisk be afraid of me?" DT asked.
"Well, Gaster experimented on Determination, which is what you are the embodiment of." Sans suggested. "And when he did, it drove him to… extreme measures. It altered his mind and changed his life in a really bad way. Maybe he would be telling Frisk about how you ruined his life."
"Yeah, maybe."
"But I know Gaster well. I know that he would never waste his time on a little kid like Frisk. If he probably would have appeared to either me or Paps."
DT took a sip of her coffee and immediately spat it back out in disgust.
"What did you put in this?" She coughed.
"I think it would be best if you didn't know." Sans said, smiling.
"Jerk." She muttered as she poured the drink out the window.
"Another theory I have is that Buddy could be Chara." Sans continued. "This wouldn't be the first time she did something like that. She has manipulated Frisk before."
"I don't know about that." DT admitted. "If it was Chara, I would be able to see her perfectly. And last time Chara took a hold of Frisk, well, you know what happened."
"Fair point." Sans sighed.
"Also, Frisk's explanation of Buddy doesn't match up with how Chara looks like." DT added. "Chara is about our height but Buddy is taller then Papyrus, judging by the way Frisk looks at Buddy. Chara is female while Buddy is male. And I'm pretty sure Chara isn't able to simply change shape like us judges."
"Hold on, I thought only you can change shape." Sans admitted.
"All of us can, it's just that I do most often." DT explained as she turned her arm into a sharp edge. "It's easier for me to do it and..." She stopped when she noticed that Sans was eyeing her bladed arm uncomfortably.
"Sorry, I forgot." DT quickly stated as she turned her hand back to normal. Sans relaxed a bit when her hand became normal again.
"It's fine. It happens a lot." Sans assured her. They both fell silent for a moment until DT spoke up.
"So... when we first met, I was walking around Snowdin, remember?"
"Oh, I remember." Sans said. "And how you absolutely fell in love with me the second you saw me? I would never forget it."
"That's not how it actually happened, Sans." DT laughed.
"Maybe it did, maybe it didn't." Sans said with a shrug. "That's up to you to decide."
DT scoffed and continued. "You and Papyrus both saw me even though I was using my magic to make me invisible to everyone."
Sans was confused. "You were?"
"Yes, I was." DT confirmed. "So how did you see me?"
Sans thought about it for a moment before coming to a conclusion.
"Remember when I said that Gaster experimenting on Determination drove him to extreme measures?"
"Yeah?"
"Well, one of the things he did was persuade us to allow him to inject us with it. That's what made us the way we are. I'm guessing that's how we can see you."
"That would make sense." DT agreed.
"On the topic of Gaster, do you have any information about him?" Sans asked, anxiously.
DT sighed. She wasn't keen on answering this question. "No. Nothing."
"What do you mean?"
"No member of the Council of the Soul has any information on your friend. We don't know his history. We don't even know how or why he fell into his machine. We just know what you know."
Sans looked bummed out by this.
"I'm sorry that I can't help you." She apologized.
"It's fine." Sans said. He stopped for a moment before continuing. "Gaster was a childhood friend to me and Papyrus. We knew him for as long as we can remember. He was cheerful and outgoing. He even had a wife who was expecting a child. A boy. Gaster was thinking of naming him Roman. But..." Sans looked away. "His wife disappeared before she could give birth and Gaster wanted to find her. That's why he built the machine."
"Oh..." DT said, at a complete lost for words. "I'm sorry about that."
"Well, it's fine. What happened happened and there is nothing we can do about it now." Sans said.
They both stayed silent for a moment before Sans stood up.
"Well, I guess I should go check on the kid." He said before walking off, leaving DT alone again.
DT leaned back into her chair and sighed. She didn't want to think about Buddy at the moment. She just wanted some time to relax and think to herself about happier times.
Knock knock!
And apparently she can't have that.
"I got it!" DT yelled. She walked to the door and opened it.
She saw a humanoid being about her height with a green outline. The being wore a short dress that went down to her knees.
"Kindi." DT stated. Kindi smiled.
"Hello, DT." She said softly. "It's been a while."
"Indeed it has, please come in." DT said as she stepped to the side to let her friend in. Kindi walked in and looked around at the house.
"This is a nice place." She admitted.
"You haven't seen Sans' room yet, then." DT joked. She noticed that Kindi started to walk up the stairs. "Wait. Don't actually see his room. You don't want to."
"Oh." Kindi sighed. She walked back down the steps and followed DT into the kitchen.
"So what happened while I was gone?" DT asked as she poured Kindi and herself drinks.
"Oh, nothing much happened except..." Kindi stopped and frowned. "I shouldn't tell you."
"What happened?" DT asked, intrigued.
"I really shouldn't tell you, Brave would get mad." Kindi admitted.
"Oh no, what did he do?" DT asked.
Kindi sighed. "Promise me that you won't laugh."
"Tell me."
"Brave wanted to ask Intei out on a date and he wanted it to be special." Kindi started.
"Go on."
"He wanted to slide in front of Intei with a rose clenched in his teeth and then he would ask her out. He thought that if he did it that way, she would defiantly say yes." Kindi continued.
"So where did it go horribly wrong?"
"When he slid to Intei, the floor was a bit too slippery for him so..." Kindi started. She sighed. "He slammed face-first into a wall inches away from Intei and went unconscious."
DT burst out laughing.
"Hey! You said you wouldn't laugh!" Kindi reminded her.
"I promised nothing!" DT laughed.
DT continued laughing until she heard a voice.
"Two DTs?" A voice asked. "Why are there two DTs?!"
DT and Kindi looked up and saw Papyrus looking at the two, clearly confused.
"You can see me?" Kindi asked.
"Of course I can!" Papyrus answered. "But do not fear, DT's clone, for I, the Great Papyrus, mean you no harm."
"You are very kind, but please, call me Kindi."
"Very well, Kindi. I shall welcome you with a great feast of spaghetti!" Papyrus announced before running off to make spaghetti.
Kindi smiled. DT sighed.
"He's always like that." DT said.
"That's good." Kindi said. "I was surprised he could even see me."
"Honestly, I'm not." DT admitted. "If you only appear to those who have kindness in their soul, Papyrus should surely be able to see you."
"Fair point." Kindi agreed.
"So, did Brave still ask Intei out?" DT asked.
"When he regained consciousness, yes."
"And did she accept?"
"She laughed a little bit but agreed to do so."
"That's great. I'm happy for them. Now you should probably get going." DT suggested. "As good as Papyrus' cooking is, it's nowhere near as good as yours."
"Nonsense. I'm sure his cooking is fine." Kindi assured her.
"No, it's really not. Take it from me. Not even Percy would be able to handle Papyrus' spaghetti."
Kindi sighed. "Very well. If that is what you want, I'll leave." And with that, she teleported away.
DT sat back in her chair and relaxed.
Papyrus walked back in, holding a plate of spaghetti. "Where's Kindi?" He asked.
DT looked back up at Papyrus and shrugged. "She had to leave."
"That is sad, she is unable to enjoy my spaghetti."
"Yeah, I'm sorry." DT admitted.
"Don't be sorry. If Kindi can not enjoy my cooking," He set the plate in front of her, "Then you can."
Before DT could say anything, Papyrus left.
DT looked down at the plate and dumped its contents out the open window to join Sans' coffee.
Then she closed her eyes and relaxed.
Chapter 3 is out!
So yeah, in my story, Sans and Papyrus (yes, Papyrus does know about the resets like Sans does in this story) both have slight PTSD when they see bladed weapons after all the genocide runs. This ranges from small kitchen knives to full on swords.
