Chapter The First:

Percy

It was a cold November day about noon when I arrived at the Library. My buddy Grover was going to be helping me with my Calculus work, cause I don't understand any of it. I headed over to the tables we usually sit at and got my stuff out. I waited a solid twenty minutes before I texted Grover:

"Hey, bud. Where you at? You're never late to anything, I'm getting a little worried. LMK whats up. We can study together another time if we need to."

I got good at making sure I told Grover that we can reschedule if something has come up, because he will not live down missing a prior set of plans. I didn't get a text back in fifteen minutes, so I called him.

"Hey, buddy! What's up?" Grover answered his phone.

"We were supposed to be at the library almost an hour ago dude, and you didn't say anything and I was getting-" I got cut off.

"Is that Percy?" I heard Juniper call weakly through the phone before I heard groaning and what I can distinctly recall was vomiting.

"I'm sorry, Perce. Juniper is really sick. I will make it up to you, I promise." Grover said. I could tell he felt bad having to ditch me.

"Hey, dude. It's all good. I completely understand. Juniper needs you right now more than I do. Let her know that I hope she feels better." I heard a groan from the background. "And we can get together to study some other time. I'll text you a really good vegan soup recipe that is really good for colds."

"Thanks, dude. You're a lifesaver." Grover said weakly.

"You need me to cover your shift at the coffee shop in the morning?" I offered. It meant me working for a couple more hours at a job I loved, so I was happy to offer it in case he was up late with Juniper.

"I will show up if I can, but if i'm not there at my normal time, please." Grover said something I couldn't make out and then came back to the phone. "Juniper said to tell you that you are the best." I heard a muffled groan in the background in seeming agreeance to the statement.

"Just trying to give you some time to take care of your girl. I know you'd do the same for me in a heartbeat." I knew he would. He has done it before with other things. I had a swim competition be rescheduled to the last minute and he was happy to help cover my shift with our friend Will. "Let me know how she is feeling later. And if you can get the recipe to work."

"Thanks, buddy!" Grover said as cheerily as possible.

"No problem." I hung up the phone and started to pick up my things when a blonde spoke from behind me.

"I'm sorry to bother you, but are you the Percy Jackson?" She said, adjusting her glasses where i could easily see her storm gray eyes.

"I don't know about this whole 'the' Percy, but I am a Percy. Why do you ask?" I looked her up and down and took in her presence. She was wearing a hoodie that was about a size too big sporting a UC Berkeley logo and jet black sweats, round glasses framing her pretty face, long blonde hair tied up in a messy bun. 'She is beautiful' was the only thought I ended up on.

Her cheeks became a little pink as she noticed me 'checking her out,' as my cousin Jason Chase would put it. "I've heard so much about you from my roommate Piper and her boyfriend. He goes on and on about how you're gonna be the next big Olympic swimmer and all that." She bounced from one foot to the next. "Do you mind if I sit here?" She pointed to the seat next to me.

"Absolutely not." I said, shooting her a smile and pulling out the chair. "And is your roommate Piper McLean? Cause if so, then that boyfriend would be Jason, my cousin and roommate. Jason Grace." She sat down, putting her bag on the floor, and turned to face me, studying my face as I studied hers.

"Yeah. Piper McLean." She pushed her hair behind her ear. "So... I'm sorry, but I overheard you on the phone. Your study buddy couldn't make it. What was it that you needed help with?" She turned after she finished and I blanked for a second. "Earth to Percy." She looked back at me, glasses slipping down her nose and her eyes looking like they had a gray fire lingering in them. She really was pretty.

"Calculus." Was all I was able to muster, which was exactly what I needed to say.

"Great! I took that last year, so I can help you." She sported a smile that, honestly, could make anyone happy from seeing it. She sat up in the chair, abandoning her bag and scooting closer to me so she could see my binder. "What exactly are y'all working on?"

She spent 4 hours with me helping me study and talking in between studying topics. I didnt spend 4 hours studying. Ever. It only ended cause I looked at the time and realized I had a shift at the coffee shop. In 20 minutes. I started gathering my things. Granted, I was a little disappointed. A smart, hot girl shows up, offering to help me study. Then I find out, not only is she hot and smart, but she is also absolutely funny.

"I'm sorry. I didn't realize what time it was. I've got work in 20. So…" I paused, trying to recall her name. "I'm sorry. I never asked your name."

She smiled at me. "Annabeth Chase." She pulled out her phone and turned it on.

"You live dangerously, being friends with Piper and having your phone off, Miss Chase." I noted and she laughed. I remember Jason left his phone off during a guys night out (before they were dating) and when he turned it on it was dinging for an hour.

"Yeah. She loves her texting, and please, call me Annabeth. 'Miss Chase' sounds too embarrassing." Her phone dinged about twenty times as soon as the phone came to life.

"Well, duty calls. My coworkers are gonna be real mad if I am late today." I finished putting my binder in my bag and checked my phone. 15 minutes till my shift starts. "Coffee doesnt pour itself." I noted with a chuckle and Annabeth giggled.

"Okay. I will see you around, I guess." She looked, i don't know, disappointed, maybe? I hope she was disappointed that we couldn't continue.

"Well, every Tuesday and Friday I am at this table, usually from noon to two, so if you wanna stop by and help me or just chat, I am gonna be here." I said, gesturing to the table as I stood up, hopeing she would get the not so subtle way I was trying to get us back in one place.

"Okay." She looked up at me with a smile that could melted Captain America out of the ice. Her phone lit up and we saw 3 missed calls and about 50 texts from Piper. "I gotta call Piper back. Have fun at work." She clicked the contact and looked at me, traces of what could be fear on her face.

"Thank you, alot. Have a good day. You're a life saver with the calculus." I started to walk away as Annabeth started talking in a hushed tone. I walked out of the front doors of the library and a wave of cold washed over me. I started walking towards the On the Line Cafe, when I got a call from Jason.

A/N:

OH MY GOD. I took the plunge. I spent HOURS looking at Percabeth fanfic on this sight and didn't get what I wanted. I decided to sit down, in lieu of getting out of school, and write myself a fanfic.
