"John, please." I pleaded, trying to move my fingers. "Whatever you were told was wrong, I promise!"
"Don't listen to her, she just feeds them monsters." I leaned back and scoffed.
"I don't allow anyone to feed from me." I shot back, feeling offended. I mean, yes, I allowed Lissa to feed from me, but that was only because we were on the run and couldn't find feeders and Christian was dying. I shook my head. "Look, you really got this all wrong. It's the Strogoi that are the monsters. There are only a few ways they can be created and that's by draining people. They have to willingly kill someone." I started reciting my school teachers as they lectured us on this very topic. "Moroi are born and they're not so bad. Yes, they need blood to live, but they breath, have hearts, love and be killed like any human can." Martin rolled his eyes and snorted. "Dhampirs are half human and Moroi we take the best of each species. We're trained to protect Moroi from Strogoi which helps the humans."
"What do the marks on your neck really mean?" John asked, one arm folded around his chest and the other hand rubbing his chin.
"Really? The one in the center is a 'Promise Mark'. It shows that I have completed my training and became a Guardian, promising to protect Moroi from Strogoi. The little ones are called Molnija Marks, they represent the countable Strogoi you've killed. I got my first two when I was seventeen before my Promise Mark after one of my best friends, Mason, was murdered by one of the monsters you're trying to protect." John looked over at Martin. "The other one is called a Zvezda Mark; it lets others know you've been to battle and killed too many Strogoi to count."
"But you have two of them-"
"Strogoi are hell bent on killing Moroi."
"There's not that many women, it was hard tracking down any." Martin challenged.
"Dhampir's are male and female. It's rare for a female Dhampir to become a Guardian, most decided to leave and raise a family."
"Honorable, if it's true. What kind of mother are you to constantly allow your child to worry i you're going to die or not?" I looked over at Martin.
"I wasn't, I rejected the offer made by our Queen to be reinstated as a Guardian, so my child didn't have to worry about both parents possibly not coming home."
"you mean-"
"Yes, Dimitri's a Guardian too. He's been a Guardian longer, he's twenty-nine." John swallowed.
"And huge." I snorted and nodded.
"He has a reputation among are people for being a God." John shook his head, hiding a smile. "Look, the point is there's an attack about to go down in a school that has innocent children." Martin looked over at me.
"I wouldn't say innocent." I turned to John.
"You say Dimitri, you saw Aly, do you honestly think either one of them is a threat?" John started to shake his head.
"They may not be, but you are." Martin replied. "You and your kind."
"Are you talking about me being Shadow-Kissed?" Martin nodded. "There's only a few of us and most don't know anything about it. We're not dangerous-"
"Hard to believe."
"The only thing that is dangerous about me is that when my best friend is using her magic to heal, i take the hate and darkness from her."
"You can heal people?"
"Moroi Spirit user can but it takes a lot. With life comes death, Shadow-Kisses Guardians takes the darkness from thier spirit user, if they don't have one, then they slowly go insane."
"That's awful-"
"look, I really don't have the time. I need to get to Montana." I interrupted. "Where's Henry?"
"He had to go - it turns out Ray's pack insist on the same side-"
"Which side are you on? The side where you let innocent children be slaughtered? Or the side where you try to stop it?" Martin dragged John out of the room and closed the door.
"What is she's telling the truth?"
"What if she isn't?"
"Henry never told us why he wanted her he just said he wanted her."
"We got the file-"
"So, we would be more inclined to take her."
"I can hear you, you know."
"Alright, we'll let you go." Martin grumbled taking a knife out of his pocket and came over to cut the ropes and ties. "What are you going to go now?"
"I'm going to steal a helicopter and you two are going to try and steal blood bags from the hospital."
We didn't sign up for-"
"No, but you're going to do it anyway."
"And you're going to fight?"
"I'm going to be a Guardian."
