"Morning, Dyl!" The Earthmate grinned at him and he raised a brow. He wore his long, lavender hair in a bun and had the uniform he normally wears while working at Porcoline's. The uniform consisted of a white dress shirt and black slacks, but he was missing his brown apron. "Morning? You slept until noon." He groaned.
"I asked to take a break from work because I heard you were back and I haven't seen you in days," he started, a slight red coming to his cheeks. "I-I mean, neither did most of the town!" He defended himself. "What I'm trying to say is that I missed you a lot, Frey." He kept his composure, trying his best to hide his concern for his friend.
Frey's smile grew. "Aww, well that's real sweet of you, Dyl. Sorry I worried you, I got home just fine! Venti, uh, Ventuswill will be alright now! I've just been so tired..." And with that, she let out a yawn and put a hand over her mouth.
Dylas let out a small chuckle. "In that case, I also made you breakfast. I know you barely eat any yourself since you're working all the time." He then brought out a small package. "But today, I'm making sure you eat it whether you want to or not." He said determinedly, ruffling the hair on the top of her head and heading inside her room.
"You're sooooo lucky we're friends," Frey started, "I would have kicked you out for committing such a crime." She then giggled, leading Dylas to a seat at her table. "Thank you, though. I appreciate it very much." He shrugged. "I mean, it's the least I could do after all the hard work you've put into helping all of Selphia." He blushed a bit. "And I wanted to know how everything went."
He let Frey unravel the package to reveal her favorite breakfast food, French toast and an omelet. She gasped and gave him a big smile. "Wow, you're such a sweetie!" she then gave him a tight hug to which he returned along with a cheek nuzzle.
"Um, I know you don't like fancy stuff and you always want to get eating over with quickly, so-" He began, and she interrupted with a "It's perfect, Dyl! Here, sit with me so I can tell you how everything went." His blush grew when she pulled out a seat for him and then sat on one across from him, starting to eat.
He stared in admiration as she explained everything in detail. He mentally thanked Margaret for forcing him to bring Frey food. The music-loving elf was the only townsperson who knew of Dylas' crush on Selphia's princess, after all, and she was going to help him get his dream girl. He remembered earlier in the morning, overhearing of the Divine Dragon's return with Frey and the final Guardian.
Before visiting Frey, he visited Ventuswill, expressing his relief for her safety and then asking if Frey was well enough for a visit at the moment. Ventuswill mulled it over for a bit and then said, "well, I don't think she would ever mind a visit from you, Dylas. You have my permission to visit her whenever you'd like." Without his knowledge, Margaret had silently followed him to the castle and heard his concerns.
"Well, I...I was really worried about her. She's only human, and I don't know what I'd do if she got hurt badly or something worse happened to her. I know the others were worried about her, but she's really one of the few townspeople I feel completely comfortable with, you know?" Margaret noticed Ventuswill smile and give a light chuckle.
"Wow, I didn't know she had such a sweet boyfriend worrying over her. I'd say she's a very lucky woman." the Divine Dragon teased. This caught Dylas off guard, causing him to step back and become a stuttering mess. "I-I am not her boyfriend! I j-just want to repay her f-for saving me! I think she d-deserves someone worrying over her every once in a-a while." He defended himself.
He returned to the restaurant after his talk with Ventuswill, where Margaret suggested he give Frey breakfast along with his visit. "I think she'd really appreciate it, Dylas. Especially from you!" She said, grinning when he finally agreed to prepare the food.
While Frey told the adventures of the days before, Dylas would make her pause sometimes by grabbing a piece of her toast and putting it up to her mouth for her to take a bite. When she finished her bite, she'd nod thankfully and continue telling him of Leon's rescue. At other times, he'd take pieces of the omelet on a fork and wave it in front of her mouth to eat. He knew her food would get cold if he didn't feed her himself.
At the very end of her retelling, Frey sighed. "But all that matters now is that Leon is here and Ventuswill is back a lot better than she was before."
"And that you're here too." Dylas spoke up. This caught Frey off guard and she blushed a bit, curling a strand of her celadon green hair. "I mean, I guess-" she began, when Dylas quickly interjected. "You guess?" He started with a loud voice. "Nobody else would've been able to do any of what you've done for this town!" He stood up, somewhat frustrated.
Frey looked up at him, eyes wide in shock at his sudden outburst. "A-and, God, I know you're capable, but you could have d-died out there! Ventuswill has no idea how lucky she is to have you care about her s-so much." He didn't notice that his hands were leaning on the table on both sides of him, balled up in fists. He looked down at his hands, relaxed them, and then looked back at the intimidated Earthmate in front of him.
"U-uh, I am so sorry about that." He apologized, trying not to break eye contact from embarrassment. Frey nodded. "That's okay, Dyl. I-I just didn't know that someone actually cared so much for me." She tried to blink away the tears coming to her eyes, but failed as they rolled down her cheeks. This concerned the stallion.
"Frey? Did I scare you?" he asked, walking over to her seat and rubbing her back. "I didn't mean to scare you, I've just been s-so worried and I've missed you and-" he rambled on, attempting to calm her as he gently held her face in his hands and wiped away the tears with his thumbs.
"No, Dyl, it's fine." she shook her head slightly, feeling comfort in his hands. He could hear how choked up her voice was and see how red her cheeks became. He noticed her looking directly into his olive green eyes and then quickly look away. Her cheeks felt hotter in his hands.
"U-um, it's just that I always hear 'Ventuswill' this, and 'Ventuswill' that...It feels like the only reason the villagers want me here sometimes is so that I can make sure she's safe, you know?" She explained. Dylas nodded. "That's exactly what I've been-" He started, but was then interrupted by a knock at Frey's door.
The stallion quickly moved his hands from her face and shoved them into his pockets. She gave him small "thank you" and walked over to open the door. There stood Leon, the fox man she had rescued yesterday.
"Oh, good afternoon!" she piped up. Leon smiled and looked above her into her room, noticing Dylas with a slightly red face. "Oh, am I interrupting something?" Leon asked, a playful tone in his voice. "Maybe I should go before your room gets hotter than before." he teased.
Frey shook her head quickly. "Oh, no, he was just bringing some food over! You don't have to leave." With this, Dylas had begun walking towards the door to leave. "I do, though. Porcoline's probably wondering where I am right now. I'll see you later, Frey." He said, giving her a small pat on the head before leaving. "Good luck at work, Dyl." She spoke after he left, receiving a farewell wave from him in return.
