AN: Again the only thing I own are my ideas.

Chapter 2

"So little one, what is your name?" His question stumped me. I knew what a name was but as far as I could tell I had never had one. I stayed silent for a couple of seconds before looking at the man. "I don't have one." The man looked at me confused, as if not having a name was the weirdest thing in the world. He then smiled. "Well then, do you have something you want to be called? My name is Kogayata but everyone just calls me Ko. This is my wife Miuki and my son Sharaku." They both gave me a smile as he introduced them. I sat and thought for a while before I was able to come up with a name for myself. "My name is Miko." He grinned and said "It is very nice to meet you Miko." After they knew my name they started to ask me all sorts of questions, most of which I didn't know the answer to.

They soon grew tired of asking questions and we lapsed into silence. I didn't have any questions to ask them so I just sat and watched the trees go by. A couple of times I could almost swear that I saw something in the trees out of the corner of my eyes but whenever I tried to get a closer look there was nothing there. I knew that I wasn't seeing things so it became a sort of game for me to try and see what I was missing. I came close a couple times catching the rustling of leaves and branches left in the wake of what was hopping around in the trees. As the sun started to set Ko got my attention by patting my shoulder. "You are not going to want to miss this." I was about to ask what he was talking about before I saw what he was talking about. We had just come over a short hill and a hundred feet in front of was a gigantic set of gates. They must have been ten times taller than me. As my mouth hung open Ko and Miuki laughed at my surprise. As we came up to the gates, men in green vests came out of nowhere. "Halt and state your business." Ko grimaced and turned around to get something in the back. "I am a merchant looking to set up shop for a week to sell my merchandise. This is my wife and son, the little girl's name is Miko, we came across her earlier today and offered her a ride. She says that she has no memories before waking up in the woods." The men took their papers looking them over for a moment. "Alright you and your family may pass through but the girl will have to come with us. A look of fear briefly passed over him before looking at me and smiling. "Ok Miko, you are going to have to go with these men for a little while, in case I don't see you before we leave I want you to know that it was very nice to meet you." They all gave me a hug and let me down.

I walked over to the men and one of them placed a hand on my shoulder, the surroundings blurred and suddenly I was in a room that only had a room and two chairs in it. I sat in one of the chairs and waited. As I looked around some more I saw that there were some black markings on the walls and ceiling. As I looked closer the door opened, startling me, a man with blue eyes and blonde hair walked in and sat in the other seat. He looked at me for a moment before speaking "Hello name is Ino. It says here that you woke up in the woods with no memory of what happened before that. Is this true." I nodded quickly getting the feeling that I should answer his questions honestly. "Would you submit to a mind walking to help prove this?" I tilted my head confused, but before I could ask my questions he said "I mind walking is when someone goes inside of your mind to see all of your memories." I nodded again, after all it wouldn't take long to go through about a day's worth of memories. He smiled and got up motioning for me to follow him. We walked for about five minutes before we came to a door. He opened the door and ushered me through. Inside there were two more chairs but not tables. "Please sit down and make yourself comfortable while I go get ready." He then walked out of the room without a second look. As I sat I saw that there were even more marks on the walls in this room. About a minute after the man had the symbols on the wall glowed and I started to get sleepy. I couldn't stop myself from falling asleep. When I came to, I was standing in the woods again, only this time Ino was with me. "I apologize for that but it is better that you sleep during the mind walking. You might be wondering where we are right now, we are in your memories. It seems that you were telling the truth about your earliest memory of waking up in the woods." All of a sudden the surroundings started to blur and we were back in the interrogation room. "Ok, the next part I have to do alone so I am going to put you into a deeper sleep." My eyes started to close again and I knew no more.

When I woke up I was laying down on a couch in some sort of circular room there was light streaming through the windows. There was only one other person there. He was an older man with a wrinkled face and brown hair. He was sitting at a desk doing paperwork. There was no indication that he knew that I had woken. "So child, (Never mind) now that my men have cleared you we come to a crossroads. On one side you can stay here and go live in the orphanage, and on the other you can see if you can go back with the people that you came with. What would you like to do?" I answered immediately "I would like to stay if that is alright with you." He chuckled and nodded "I had a feeling that you would say that. Before we can get you settled in I have a few questions that I would like to ask you. Is that alright with you?" I nodded again. "Here in the hidden leaf there are a few things that orphans such as yourself can do, you can go to the civilian academy and simply live out your life doing whatever you would like to do. Another option is that you can get tested for chakra capacity, if you have high enough reserves then you can apply for the ninja academy. Both schools will not start until you are five years old. One last option is for you to go to the orphanage and try to get adopted then your parents will decide for you."

I thought about my choices for a couple of minutes before making my choice. "I would like to be tested to see if I can go to the ninja academy please." He nodded and suddenly there was another person beside me, I say person because they had no features besides some sort of animal mask on. He handed the older man a scroll and then disappeared. I stared wide eyed where the man had appeared and disappeared, the older man chuckled again as he read the scroll. "It seems that you have enough chakra to go to the ninja academy. Congratulations. One more thing before I have someone take you to the orphanage. As of this moment you are a citizen of the hidden leaf, and as a citizen I hope that you will treat every other person that lives here as your family." I smile and nod, for some reason the word family brought a smile to my face. Another person appeared next to me in the next moment although I thought this was a different person because the mask had a different design. The old man handed me a scroll "give this to the care giver at the orphanage and she will know what to do from there. I hope to see you here again. Good luck." The person next to me put a hand on my shoulder and my surroundings blurred again.

When I could see again we were standing outside a gated building. There were a bunch of kids playing in the front yard. I looked up to the person next to me and noticed that the markings looked kind of like a bird. He looked back down to me and jerked his head towards the gate. I walked into the yard and looked back but Bird was gone. I kept walking towards the front entrance, as I reached the door it swung open and I, a very kind looking woman with a baby in her arms stepped out. She looked down at me and smiled "What are you doing here little one, are you lost?" I looked up at her and held out the scroll, a sad look crossed her face as she took the scroll but she quickly covered it with a smile. She opened the scroll and read it, the sad look slowly returning. "Well child it looks like you are going to be staying here for a while. Why don't you go play with the other children and tonight after dinner we can get you settled in." I nodded and turned around looking for somewhere to go. I spotted a tree that had a lot of shade and started walking towards it intending to take my spot. When I was about half way there a blond boy walked in front of me and stuck his hand out. "My name is Minato Namikaze, What's your name?"
