Chapter 3

I looked at him for a second before I decided to shake his hand. "Hi, my name is Mito." He smiled at me like he was happy that I responded to him. "Mito is kind of a girly name." I deadpanned at him "That would make sense since I am a girl." He looked like he wanted the earth to swallow him up so I took pity on him. "Is there something you want?" He looked startled at my question. "What I mean is there something that you want to do together like play tag or just hang out?" He nodded in understanding then adopted a thinking pose. "Well there in a set of swings out back if you want to go hang out on those." I shrugged and he started to walk around back. I followed him a few seconds later wishing I had made it to that tree. When we got to the back yard there were already some kids on the swings but there were two at the end that were still open so we took those. We swung back and forth for a minute before he asked a question "So why are you here?" I looked at him for a second not believing that he had asked that. "I woke up in the woods with no memory and made it here, then I was asked by an old man if I wanted to go to the ninja academy and I said yes so here I am. What about you?" He looked at me for a second before looking down. "My parents were both ninjas that died on a mission, I have no other family so I ended up here until I am old enough to become a ninja and move out." After that we just swung on the swings asking random questions, I found out that he is four years old too, his favorite food is ramen, and his dream is to become Hokage. "What's a Hokage?" His jaw dropped as I said that. "You don't know what a Hokage is?" I shook my head. "The Hokage is the leader of our village, the strongest ninja in the whole village." I smirked "Looks like you have a long way to go then." He smiled back. "Yep, but it is my dream so I only have to achieve it in my lifetime. What about you? What is your dream?"

That got me thinking, I really didn't have a dream yet. So I thought about it, what did I want? "I guess my dream is to have a family and get strong enough to protect them." I smiled at Minato as I finished and he looked at me for a second before a grin stretched across his face. "Do you think we could be friends?" I was shocked for a moment at his question, "I would very much like that." We swung on the swings for another hour and before we were called inside for lunch. It was the first meal I could remember and I was starving. I shoved food in my mouth, trying to eat as fast as possible so I could get more food. Minato just stared at me with his spoon half way to his mouth. "What? I haven't eaten in a whole day." He nodded and went back to eating. By the time he had finished his first bowl I was on my third and was starting to slow down. I put my spoon down when I finished eating. "I think I am going to go into a food coma now." Minato thought that was funny if his laugh was any indication. "Come on we can go to the library until you feel up to going back outside." I nodded and slowly got up to follow him.

He led me through a series of streets until we reached a set of wooden doors. He pushed them open and led me in. "Hello Minato, back again? Who's your friend?" the man behind the desk said as he looked at me. "Hello my name is Mito, it is very nice to meet you." She smiled "Well aren't you just adorable, my name is Darusk it is nice to meet you too. If you ever need help finding anything just let me know." I nodded and followed Minato to a small section of the library. "This is my favorite part of the library, the ninja section, it has books on what ninja life is like and also has tips on the different aspects of their life. If you want to be a ninja you should read these books." I nodded and went up to one of the shelves to look for a book to read. As I skimmed over the titles and picked one that seemed like a good start to me, The Basics of Chakra. I took the book and looked for somewhere to read. I saw that Minato had chosen a book and walked over to a set of doors, I jogged to catch up to him. "Where are you going?" "There is a small patio where you can take books to read right outside." I nodded and followed him thinking it would be nice to read outside in the sun.

We just sat and read for a while, and never did go back to playing. The book I was reading was very interesting because it went into all the different disciplines I could go into once I became a ninja. There were a couple that seemed interesting to me, but there were just so many that I could decide which I wanted to go into. Since I didn't have to decide right now I kept reading the book. I was glad I did because the next part was on all the different things chakra could do. I would be amazed if I could learn even half of what the book told me about, and it was just basically listing not going in depth. I couldn't wait to get started on my training so I could just start to learn about this. I kept reading until I was tapped on the shoulder and I looked up to Minato. "Come on, it's time to go back for dinner." I looked around and noticed that the sky was starting to get dark. He laughed at my expression and started to walk back inside. As we passed the counter Darusk wasn't there anymore and instead there was a lady in his place. "Be sure to take care of that book and bring it back once you are done reading it." I nodded and kept walking, It only took a couple minutes to get back to the orphanage. We walked back inside and into the dining hall. After we had eaten I walked up to the matron and tugged on her sleeve. She looked down at me. "Oh, Mito there you are, I set up your room earlier, you will be bunking with Minato, as he arrived just a few weeks ago. By the way I am very sorry but I haven't introduced myself yet have I?" I shook my head. "Well then, my name is Sabuki, everything you need is in that room. Have a nice night." I waved and said goodnight and went looking for Minato again. He was walking out of the dining hall, I jogged to catch up to him. "It looks like we will be staying together for a while." He looked at me confused "What do you mean?" "I am bunking in your room." He nodded and started to lead me to our room. When we arrived I looked around, it was simple, two beds, one dresser, one desk. I went to one bed and he went to the other. As I laid down to go to bed I thought about all of what had happened in the past two days, I decided that I was happy how it had turned out. I was fed, had a roof over my head, and I also had my first friend, so for the time being I was content. When I fell asleep I dreamed of the adventures I would have in the come years.
