Dylas had started to see Leon and Frey spending time together often since his first time meeting the foxman. He'd hear Leon say something and then Frey laughing out of earshot whenever he was out in the town of Selphia. Other times, the stallion would see Leon teasing Frey, ruffling her hair and calling her names.
Dylas was able to see her playfully rolling her eyes at Leon, but she always took his teasing lightly. Dylas tried to walk up to them to have his usual conversation with Frey, but he felt like he was interrupting something. It wasn't until Thursday came when he began to truly feel jealous.
Frey woke up at 6am and put her hair into a bun for the duration of her farming chores. She washed her face, brushed her teeth, and got on her farming outfit for her chores. She then stepped into her boots and headed out the back of the castle, where she noticed Dylas walking towards her farm.
"Oh, hi, Dyl!" She waved at the stallion with a smile. "What're you up to?" She asked. He was in his casual outfit, a navy blue hoodie and black jeans. His hands were in his pocket and he greeted back with a small smile.
"I just wanted to say hi." He spoke quietly, trying to sound friendly. "It's pretty early for that, Dyl." Frey lightly teased, getting on her toes to pat his head. "But, good morning. I was just about to tend to my crops and monsters, wanna see?" She asked. Dylas nodded and followed as she headed to her crop fields.
"See, they love to help out on the farm." The farmer explained, nodding towards a nearby wooly watering some growing flowers with a watering can in one of its paws. "They're really sweet for doing that." Dylas observed.
"They think I'm sweet for taking them in and caring for them, so I think they do it to repay me." Frey told him with a smile. "Come here, Fluffy!" She then called out and whistled towards the wooly. This caught Dylas off guard and he got worried as the monster looked in their direction and happily began to run over.
The wooly then stood in front of Frey and she bent her legs to get down to its height. "You're such a good wooly, aren't you, Fluffy?" Dylas heard her babytalk the wooly.
He watched as the wooly nuzzled Frey and she hugged it and patted its wool. "Here, Dyl, say hi to Fluffy!" She looked back at him with a grin. "O-oh, um..." He mumbled, backing away a bit when the wooly looked in his direction. "Aww, are you scared?" She stood straight up and picked up the wooly.
"Fluffy's a good boy, you don't have to worry about anything." She assured the stallion as she cradled the monster in her strong arms. "Weren't you a monster before, too?" The farmer teased. "I mean, I don't know if they actually liked me." Dylas admitted.
"Well, Fluffy doesn't have anything against you!" She brought the wooly near the stallion. He reluctantly looked into the monster's eyes and sighed. "Hi...Fluffy. How are you?" He greeted the wooly. The monster happily baa'd and reached out for him. "See, he likes you! You hold him now." Frey waited for Dylas to bring out his arms to gently transfer the fluffy monster to his.
The stallion gulped and brought out his arms. Once she placed Fluffy in his arms, it began to cuddle up against him. "He looks pretty comfy." She observed with a grin.
Dylas ran his hands through the wooly's wool and slightly smiled. "I guess he is." He said, looking back at Frey. "It's almost as if he's your baby!" She giggled, petting Fluffy.
The stallion blushed and quickly looked away. "Then...who's the mother?" He asked himself, hoping she wouldn't hear. "Well, me, obviously!" Frey answered. This caught Dylas off guard and he looked back at her with wide eyes.
"Y-you?! How can y-you say that?" He asked, his voice a slightly high pitch from panic and surprise. "O-oh, would you not like that?" Frey asked, worried by his reaction.
"N-no, that's not what I meant!" He quickly defended, his face growing redder by the minute. "You look angry, Dyl." The princess began with a dejected look. "I'm so sorr-" She tried to apologize, when Dylas quickly transferred the wooly into his left arm and pulled Frey into him with his right.
She understood this as an attempted hug and wrapped both of her arms around his waist, nuzzling into his chest. "You d-don't have to say sorry about anything, Frey." He assured her with a calm yet shy tone. He could feel his heart beating quickly with her head on him.
Dylas then kissed her on the top of her hair, hiding the kiss by running his fingers through it. "Frey, I..." He began and then paused when he saw Leon walking by with a fishing pole in hand. The foxman looked over and saw Dylas with his mouth still on her head.
Leon gave the horseman a smirk and the stallion frowned. Dylas then removed his lips from her head and gave the dragon priest a glare. Frey looked up at Dylas, confused. "Yes, Dyl?" She asked.
He looked into her emerald eyes for a moment and stuttered. "I-I, um, I'm really glad I have a best friend like you." He told her.
She thought for a moment and gave him a mischievous grin. "Well, you don't have a best friend like me. You have a best friend that is me! I am your best friend, don't go and try to find someone like me instead!" Dylas only chuckled and ran a hand through his hair. "You really like to talk, you know that?" He asked with a shy smile.
"Hmm...Really?" She replied, giving his waist a squeeze and letting out a small giggle.
"Y-yes, you do." He let out a light laugh and looked back up to see that Leon had left the area. Dylas then quickly looked back at the happy Frey and at the Wooly in his arm. "My arm's getting a bit tired, here's your baby." He teased as he gently transferred the monster back into her arms.
"Aww, thanks hubby! You're such a good dad to good baby Fluffy!" She teased back and then looked at Fluffy. "Isn't he, Fluffy? Isn't he just the best daddy ever?" The farmer babytalked the monster, lightly pinching one of its cheeks.
Dylas grew red once again at the name. He watched for a moment as Frey babied the fluffy monster and put his hands in his pockets. "I'll leave you to your farm, Frey. I gotta get ready for work." He told her.
"Oh, of course! I'll see you later, Dyl." She nodded. "Thank you for spending time with me, by the way." She called out as he waved goodbye and headed out into the restaurant area. "Alright, play time's over, Fluffy." The farmer gave the wooly one last hug and returned its watering can. "You like Dyl, too, right?"
She asked the monster. The wooly simply nodded as it began to water some of her crops nearby. "Good." She smiled. "I'd like all of them to like him just in case..." She mumbled to herself and paused.
Just in case what? Just in case you marry him?
Her face grew hot at this and she shook her head. "We are best friends." The farmer said out loud to herself.
He wouldn't want to marry you.
"But why wouldn't he?!" She unexpectedly snapped at nobody in particular, harshly stomping a foot down onto the ground. She didn't notice her woolies and cluckadoodles quiet down and look at her in concern.
"A-ah, I'm sorry guys!" She quickly apologized when she looked up to see them all making their way towards her, ready to comfort her. The farmer picked up a cluckadoodle and ran a hand through its feathers.
"I've just been thinking about things. They're not too important, but..." She caught herself thinking about her relationship with Dylas once again and shook her head. "Well, I can't let this get in the way of my work. I have to finish up with the crops, walk around town, and complete some requests all before I get ready to go with Leon to the restaurant. And that's hoping that the date goes as well as work does."
She ruffled the Cluckadoodle's feathers and gave it a kiss on the head before setting it back down. She then waved to the monsters to resume what they were originally doing.
It's nice to know that they're so worried about me as well.
Frey figured that she'd shower once after finishing up with her farm and then once again after finishing requests in order to get ready for the date she and Leon had later during the day.
After her first shower, she headed out into town to greet Eliza, the talking request box. "Hi, Frey! How's it been going since you got back?" Frey heard a voice question.
"Hey, Eliza. It's been great." She replied, making sure to look around for any villagers nearby before answering. "Must be tough for you." The princess heard the voice quietly say. "What must be?" She asked, confused at the sudden change in topic. "Well, your situation, of course." The box replied in a tone making it seem as if the answer was obvious.
"Situation? How-"
"I did tell you that I know everything about this town, right?" Eliza asked. "Including the people residing in it?" Frey allowed a moment of silence to pass before answering the box's question. "...Yes. Yes you did."
Eliza let out a laugh at the princess's silent shock. "Exactly! Kinda silly that you questioned it in the first place, honestly. But I do hope that things get better for you." The box told her.
"Thank you for that, at least." Frey said, still somewhat in shock at how Eliza could have known about the battles she was having in her mind.
"Anyway, changing the subject here." The princess began. "Any requests for me today?" She asked the box, bringing a hand near as if asking permission to reach inside. "Yup!" Eliza started. "Take a look."
And with that, Frey gently reached in for papers the villagers would write on whenever they needed help with something.
"Ah, getting busy, I see."
The farmer heard a smooth voice from behind and flinched, her hand hitting the side of the request box. "Oops! Sorry Eliza." Frey apologized quietly and rubbed the top of the box as if to distract it from the pain of being hit on accident.
She then heard a chuckle coming from the voice that startled her.
"Looks like you really care about that box. Poor thing must have felt hurt when you hit it."
The princess turned to see Leon, his fan covering his mouth although she could tell he was grinning. "Leon! Don't scare me like that!" She scolded the dragon priest. "What do you want from me?" She asked, giving Eliza one final pat.
"Oh, I only wanted to say hello to my date. Getting work done, are you?" He asked, his mischievous smile staying on his tanned face.
"I mean, I was going to before somebody decided to rudely say hello." Frey wiped down her pants and sighed.
"Aww, you're such an expressive and whiny Princess!" Leon teased. "I wonder how Ventuswill allowed somebody like you to take over." He wondered out loud, fanning the princess as if trying to calm her down.
"I wonder that too. It was supposed to be Arthur, but she changed her mind for some reason." She droned, crossing her arms and blowing air into his face in retaliation for him using his fan on her.
"You're breaking my heart, Princess." Leon began with a chuckle. "And I wasn't even complaining."
