Chapter 5-A Cool Host

Reputation-management had a job to do and she was very good at it. She had to be what with her mother being Path-to-victory. The Entity had been shocked with the power she had manifested. They had thought she would manifest similar power as her mother-shard but they were wrong. Her mother was path-to-victory and she could do anything she wanted.

Everyone had underestimated her. Only her mother had known what she was truly capable of. It had taken a lot of cycles for everyone what she was truly capable of. Enough for them to raise her to noble status. She would have been raised to vital but then it would have defeated the very purpose of her existence.

Now, this cycle was a very interesting cycle. The newest hosts could have easily subverted them and destroyed them but she got lucky. When her mother had been busy distracting this "thinker entity" she was busy finding any shard that would be troublesome and have them be lost in the exchange.

Finding that the entity was a pair was a worrying prospect. She knew that the step she was going to take was a risky one but this was important. She contacted her brothers and started distilling this "queen administrator" shard. Get all the information the shard has and then extract its mass for there eventual travel.

She had made the correct decision. Finding the information had been a boon as the shard had a lot of information about there host.

Her job in every cycle was an important and difficult one. She had to gain as much information as possible of the new host and yet avoid the suspicion of the new host that her loyalty laid with her true progenitor. Which also means that she would have to attach herself to a host like all the other shards in their host entity and give them enough conflict to get a good amount of conflict. It was a very difficult job on top of the fact that at the beginning of every cycle she had a very low amount of energy to function on.

It was her work that had finally changed the way her progenitor entity functioned in their cycles. No more were they savage entities that used their host planet species as nothing more than toys to be used and then completely wiped out. It was the least they could do.

Their plan now revolved around targeting other entities and stealing their knowledge and use the energy from their corpses to propel them for another host to be infected. It might have monstrous to do these on your species but she could be forgiven for this transgression as her species was hardly anything else but the worst of the monster.

But she had distilled the most important shard of their host this cycle and enjoy it. She learned about the host the QA shard has chosen. She would wait and see whether the host was worth her time.

It took a few years and she was at the end of her patience.

The superpower she gave out was two-fold. It was essentially painted a huge target on her host and then making sure her host could get away in such a way that it would attract more conflict towards the host. That was why her name was reputation-management.

So when her host started regretting that she was not as cool as the three bitches that tortured she started to have ideas. Ideas she was sure her host will appreciate. It was time for her to bond with the new host.

PPS-I think this might be the last chapter as the steam that I had when I started this has completely blown off. I guess I have answered how this is gonna end.

The abandon entity in this AU is actually a parasite towards other entities who take over shards, copies it's data and uses the mass of the other entity instead of the host planets to propel itself towards its next target. I do not know how wildbow might have described the abandon entity so this might be considered as an au.
