Chapter 75: Sealed
"Do you feel despair yet?" Madara then asked her from where he was. "Look around you. They've given up too. They know there's no point in fighting any more. So… Tell me, do you feel it yet?"
She didn't give him an answer. She simply glared at him. Feel? She didn't feel anything. Her whole body felt numb and her heart had been sealed by his death. She hated to admit it, but Danzo was right. Emotions did make her weak. Had she not wished for a future with him, she would be stronger. She wouldn't care about staying alive. The only thing she wanted now was to complete the mission that was given to her: seal Madara. She summoned Kiku.
"Are you fully recovered?" She asked coldly.
"Yuki…"
Kiku could sense that her master was different. The warmth that Yuki had vanished. She was the cold-hearted person she was a couple of years back. No. She was colder than that. Her eyes, though seemingly angry, were dead. She was blind to everything and everyone around her. Kiku had never seen Yuki in such state before. She was always cold on the outside, but warm very deep down.
"Yes, I'm ready for another round." Kiku finally replied as she took place on Yuki's head and began gathering nature's energy.
Unlike Yuki, Naruto now treasured his life more than anything. He was reminded of all the lives that were sacrificed for his and his friends. His life was no longer just his. He carried many more now within himself. Because he felt more responsible than ever, he began sharing his chakra with everyone in the Alliance as instructed by Shikaku before his untimely death. It was the only way to ensure that everyone had a fighting chance against such monsters. They followed Shikaku's plan as instructed. Ino managed to mind transfer into Obito who was controlling the Ten-Tails. The Nara clan then held down the Ten-Tails with their shadow binding jutsu. The rest was up to the Bee and Naruto to completely destroy the Ten-Tails while the others took care of Obito and Madara.
Naruto made it next to Yuki and asked her to give him her hand so that he could give her some of his chakra. She did not extend her hand towards him.
"Oi, Yuki! We…"
"The more you spread your chakra, the less you have for yourself." Yuki interrupted him. "I don't need it for the time being. Plus, I'm currently running in Sage mode. Matching my current chakra will be different than matching everybody else's. So just save it."
Her voice was very monotonous. She did not even look at him once. Her eyes were focused on Madara and looking for an opening to attack him. Lee joined up with them after having said his goodbyes to Neji. He never thought his best friend and forever rival would leave the face of the Earth so abruptly. He couldn't dare to imagine what Yuki was going through right now. He didn't know that she no longer felt anything.
"You said Madara can only be tackled with physical attack, right?" He asked.
Yuki nodded, not taking her eyes away from her target for even a second.
"I'm the guy for this job then." Lee said as he rushed forward with Naruto who no longer knew what to say to Yuki.
Yuki followed them as she readied herself to seal Madara. She knew a simple sealing technique wasn't going to do. She learned a few, but wondered if any of those would suffice as Madara had been evading every single one of their previous attempts. With Naruto's chakra, Lee was able to land a hit on Madara who seemed fairly impressed by the young ninja. Yuki teleported herself right to them and placed her seal on Madara.
"It will take more than just…" He started before realizing that she had modified the seal to a different one using Senjutsu.
However, he was also right. It wasn't enough to hold him down. Before they knew, the three of them were forced to leave the premises as he unleashed his Susano against them. The seal broke before it could be fully completed. Along with Obito, he attacked the Alliance who now struggled to maintain the Ten-Tails immobile. Had it not been for Naruto's chakra, the Alliance would have been annihilated.
"Above you, Naruto!" Kakashi then yelled out.
Yuki was a step faster than Naruto and moved him away before Obito, using Kamui, could get to him. Obito now stood in front of them.
"You are only defending at this point, Naruto. Do you think you can win just by doing so?" He asked him. "You'll just get weaker."
"Since you like being alone, you probably can't understand." Naruto replied with a smirk on his face. "It's no victory if there's no one left around you."
Yuki, for the first time, looked away from the enemy to look at Naruto. Those last few words hit her. The seal she had placed on her heart, for a brief second, was released, but was quickly reactivated again. She felt like she was all alone again. Naruto could move everybody's heart. He was just that special, but she realized at that her heart was no longer there. What kept her going now was knowing that she had to fight. It was her head. For a quick second, she felt her heart beat again. It was too short for it to actually do so.
"And you, you said as long as there's life, you would have hope. What happened?" Obito then turned to Yuki.
She couldn't reply. What a lie. She thought to herself. She held onto something that was inexistent from the beginning. Naruto could feel that she had waivered. He looked at her.
"You can still feel it. I know it. Things are numb right now. Of course they would be, but I can sense you. It means you still have feelings. You are still with us, Yuki." He told her before turning to Obito. "Even during these times, having everyone so close to me really makes me happy and that's enough to give me power!"
At those words, Naruto headed for Obito and everyone joined in together forcing him to use Kamui once again to get away. What he didn't know was that Yuki had sent a kunai where the warping happened and was already waiting for him to knock him out. Madara saw it coming and barely blocked her attack against Obito in time.
"I haven't met a ninja as fast as you since Tobirama." He told her as she got away before he could catch her.
He paused and a smile was drawn on his face. She bit her lower lip wondering what it was that made him so happy all of the sudden. She then sensed four different chakras heading their direction. One of which she could clearly recognize as… "Sandaime?" She couldn't identify the others, but she was certain someone with the Third's chakra was coming their way. At that moment, Obito and Kakashi disappeared. They had gone into the other dimension, seemingly needing to settle a score with each other. Meanwhile, the Ten-Tails began acting up again. Yuki had a hard time maintaining her balance near the creature. The Juubi created tornados all around it and lightning struck the ground causing it to crumble beneath their feet. The Alliance had completely lost control of the Ten-Tails. With everyone trying their best to protect one another but also oneself, there was just no way to keep the Ten-Tails immobile.
As the tornados dissipated, Naruto barely managed to keep everyone safe. He was panting himself. It was hard to control so much chakra. As his knee hit the ground, Sakura rushed over to his side and began healing him. The chakra cloak that protected everyone disappeared as soon as the dust from the previous attack settled to the ground. The Juubi changed form again and was preparing to send a chakra bomb in their direction. Yuki could sense that people were starting to panic. They were starting to give up. Sakura told them not to. If they were going to die anyways, they might as well die while trying.
"Shikamaru." Yuki connected to herself to him.
"Yuki?" He replied surprised.
"I need your help. How can I move that chakra bomb away if I cannot touch it?"
"Oi, are you crazy? No matter how fast you are, the moment that thing blows, it will be just as fast as you are and you are going with it! Let's say it does work. There's this one now. There will be another one later. The size of that thing… when you teleport it, it will drain your chakra."
"I can't think of another solution right now."
"You mean you don't want to think of another one, but I do have one. Can you connect to everyone on the battlefield?"
"I'm not from the Yamanaka clan. I can only contact directly to someone. Ino should be able to. She probably learned from her dad."
She disconnected from Shikamaru to let him speak to Ino. If his plan didn't work, she would go with her current plan. He was probably right that she would die in the process, but her life in exchange for all the others were worth it.
"Uh… Everyone, this is Shikamaru from Konohagakure. We have a plan and we need everyone to work together to stop that chakra bomb. In a second, we will connect you all to Kitsuchi-san who will teach a basic seal for an earth wall. Everyone will be lining them up, one behind the other. When yours collapse, build another right away. We will slow that thing down together and bring it to a stop before it reaches us. Those who are able to build more solid barriers, please do so. But our purpose is to fight quality with quantity."
Shikamaru never disappointed. He always came up with great plans even in time of high pressure. Everyone exchanged looks as they received the instructions and lined up to prepare for the attack. With its slower speed, it also meant that Yuki had a better chance of moving it away from the battlefield if needed. She took a step ahead of everyone and created her thousand ice barrier before finding higher ground to be able to teleport it away when needed.
"Only if necessary." Shikamaru's voice then resonated in her head.
The chakra bomb headed towards them at full speed, but the barriers seemed to be effective in slowing it down. However, its strength would still be enough to get to them. Yuki threw her kunai in the direction of the chakra bomb to be able to get to it in an instant, but it was deviated elsewhere by another. Within meters of hitting the Alliance, the bomb disappeared. Her kunai fell to the ground next to another one. She recognized its shape. The Yellow Flash.
"You were just in time, Dad." Naruto said as the Yellow Flash appeared in front of them.
"She would have been to." He then said looking at Yuki. "Yuki, right? That was a risky move for someone who isn't reincarnated."
"Yondaime, how do you know my name?"
"He was there when I found you." Another voice said.
"Sandaime!" Sakura exclaimed.
Yuki turned around to see her adopted grandfather standing there along with the First and Second Hokages. Her heart started beating again. It shouldn't. She told herself. He was going to leave her again once the war was going to be over. Over. She actually still believed that the war was going to end. The Third came to her and gave her a tight hug.
"These last few years must have been tough for you."
