Chapter 77: The Birth of A Poison
The Amaterasu burnt stronger and stronger on the beast as Sasuke's thoughts of burning it down and starting a new era for the shinobi world grew stronger. Naruto was now yelling at him to stop, but Sasuke simply ignored him. Yuki forgave Sasuke for everything he did because Itachi asked her to. However, she never agreed with Sasuke's method. Naruto, on the other hand, had her full trust. She shook her head as those words entered her mind. "Trust is only temporary." She told herself, but "Naruto never went back on his words. Naruto always did the right thing. It is rational to trust him." Naruto kept telling Sasuke that the other Tailed Beasts did nothing wrong, that they were living things, that they deserved to live. Sasuke saw them as the reason for his brother's death and for this war. "I trust Naruto." She told herself. With that, she diminished the black fire enough to stop it from completely consuming the beast.
"Thanks, Yuki!" Naruto said as he got past Sasuke and began the Bijuus' extraction.
Sasuke rushed over to her and grabbed her by the collar: "What are you doing!?"
"Naruto said he could stop the Ten-Tails by extracting the other Bijuu. Why don't you let him try? We can always…"
"You cared so much for Itachi! Why can't you see that he…"
"He wouldn't take away lives unless it was necessary."
"Are you saying my mother and father had to die?"
"I thought you had figured things out."
Sai got to them and made Sasuke let go of Yuki. Sasuke went ahead and increased the fire again. Yuki would stop it. Naruto tried to concentrate and get closer to extract the Bijuu. Sai and Yuki were now fighting Sasuke. Neither of them were trying to hurt Sasuke. They only wanted to stop him from killing the Ten-Tails so that Naruto could do his part. Sasuke, however, was attacking to harm. While they were distracted and fighting amongst each other, the Ten-Tails regained consciousness and gained control of his clones once again. It managed to get rid of the part of its body that was burning with the black flames.
Sasuke was still too busy engaging in a fight with Yuki and Sai. She, however, sensed the sudden increase in chakra with the Ten-Tails. The clones had started attacking the Alliance once again. Thankfully, with the help of Sakura and Katsuyu, they had recovered and were ready to fight again. Yuki flashed herself to Naruto who was frustrated by the fact that a few more minutes or even seconds and he would have succeeded in extracting the Ten-Tails. To make matters worse, Madara was now sick of waiting for Hashirama. He was heading for the Alliance as he fought through the First's wooden clones. He believed that once the Alliance was gone, Hashirama would finally focus on him.
"Can you deal with things in here?" Yuki asked Naruto.
"Yeah, what's up?"
"I think I'll have to switch to the outside. Madara isn't staying still any longer."
Yuki swiftly got outside of the barrier to where the First Hokage was. He looked at her, wondering why she was out here rather than inside with the rest of the Alliance. She summoned Kiku and began gathering nature's energy. Her hair lengthened to touch the ground.
"Very impressive at your young age." The First complimented her. "Is there something you wished to tell me?"
"I'll hold the barrier at this corner. Madara won't let the Alliance live if you don't fight him now." She told him as she did the seal for the crimson barrier.
"This…"
Just when he was about to reply, Madara sent a large fireball towards the Alliance who had their backs turned to him. Hashirama looked at Yuki as they switched position. He couldn't believe such a young shinobi was able to learn the Four Crimson Ray Formation so quickly and actually execute it properly. Before the fireball could pass the barrier to hit the Alliance, Yuki closed the opening between the inside and outside. Once the fire disappeared, she reopened the small opening allowing everyone to escape if necessary. For a quick second, she felt dizzy. Even though she was relying of nature's energy, modifying the barrier so quickly was very chakra taxing. She managed to regain control of herself quickly and kept the barrier in place.
"Thanks, Yuki." She heard Ino say through telepathy. "From everyone… thank you. You saved us all."
"Thank me later when this is actually over." Yuki replied.
With Hashirama busy fighting Madara, the Ten-Tails got loose from the ten seals that were in place. It slowly started moving again making the ground shake beneath their feet. The three Hokages and Yuki tried their best to maintain the barrier as the word was relayed to everyone to leave to the outside. Another chakra bomb was about to come. As soon as everyone made it out, Yuki sealed the opening once again. She felt the dizziness hit her again. "Damn it… If only my chakra's pool was bigger… Even with Kiku collecting energy for me, I can barely hold it together." She closed one eye as things began to appear blurry with that one. She reopened it and things appeared different for a few seconds. She blinked and things were normal again. "What was that?" She thought to herself. She opened her eyes in time to see Obito reappear on the Ten-Tails head. He was heavily injured and couldn't stand on his own. Kakashi was nowhere to be seen. She refused to believe that somebody had happened to him. Seeing the terrible shape Obito was in, it had to mean that Kakashi was alright.
"I would have wanted to fight you as myself for a bit longer, but I think time won't permit it after all." Madara told the First Hokage. "Time for Obito to pay me back for saving his life."
"Yondaime! You need to stop Obito! Madara is trying to come back to life." Yuki quickly relayed to the fastest ninja known in history.
Madara began weaving the signs that seemingly affected Obito. Black rods emerged from his body. Obito let out a cry. Sasuke, Naruto and Minato's clone headed his direction. The Fourth Hokage's clone got there first with his Flying Raijin Technique and, at that moment, realized that his former student was the one who attacked the village on Naruto's birthday back then. He slashed Obito's body that had just began moving again. Obito collapsed on the Ten-Tails head. Sasuke and Naruto got to the body a few seconds later.
"I guess we can now all focus on sealing Madara." Sasuke said.
It felt too easy. Yuki bit her lower lip. She could also still sense Obito's chakra despite seemingly having died. She also noticed a frown on Madara's face. It could be from the fact that he could no longer come back to life, but it didn't feel like that was the reason why. All of the sudden, the Ten-Tails began warping and getting sucked into Obito's body. Everyone was instructed to back away. A globe was formed in the night sky, risen above them all.
"He got away from my control." Madara said.
A crack in the globe could then be seen. A white glassy figure emerged from it. It looked like Obito, but also did not. His chakra could still be detected, but barely. There was no mistake. Obito had become the Ten-Tails Jinchuuriki. The first thing he did was grab onto the barrier and dissipated it completely, leaving everyone shocked. It was supposed to be the strongest barrier known to man, but, in an instant, vanished. Yuki's eyes decided to become blurry at that very moment. She cursed as her knees hit the ground. Her eyes were not just blurry, but they became painful. She opened them again, only to see that things appeared different to her. She blinked a few times and things went back to normal. The Third and the Second Hokage came to her side.
"Yuki, are you okay?" The Third asked her as he helped her up. "This probably drained your chakra completely."
"My chakra reserves have always been an issue." She said as she got back up. "But it isn't it this time. I don't know what happened the moment the barrier collapsed, things went blurry and then things were clear but looked different. I'm alright now."
"I mentioned to you that your chakra signature was interesting when we first met." The Second told her.
"Madara mentioned that he thought I resembled the Senjus more than the Uchiha despite my Sharingans."
"It's more than that." Tobirama said. "It seems as though you have more than ancestral chakra signature. That would explain why you can use so many different jutsus and even some that would normally require a specific bloodline like telepathy techniques by the Yamanakas. Do you know about your family's background?"
Yuki looked at the Third and told the Second: "I'm an orphan raised by the Third."
The Third placed his hand on her shoulder as though he was trying to comfort her and remind her that he was indeed her family. She walked away from them and reminded them that they could talk about this later. Obito still hadn't made a move. He was seemingly still having an internal battle with himself. Minato called out his name a few times hoping that it would make him snap out of it. He felt like Obito hadn't changed as much as he made it seem. He wouldn't have been able to resist Madara otherwise. However, the quietness of it all didn't last. Obito began his attack. He was much faster than before. As soon as the Second joined his older brother, they were both struck by him. As they looked on the battle, they realized that Obito's body was covered in explosive tags. It was the Second's doing. He always took swift action when needed. He then told everyone to stay back as he used his Mutually Multiplying Explosive Tags. The explosions kept going. When it finally stopped, Obito rose from the smoke and dust, seemingly unharmed. The Alliance along with the Third Hokage threw their weapons from all different angles towards Obito. Lifting only his arms, he destroyed all the weapons.
"What are you thinking?" The Third asked Yuki as he knew that she was taking this opportunity to evaluate the situation and her opponent's ability.
"All the weapons are made of different materials. However, he managed to break them all with that black substance around him. It reminds me of the Dust Release from the Third Tsuchikage. However, it is malleable unlike the dust release. All we can gather from that is that it requires at least four nature transformation and complete control of those four. However, I am almost certain that that black material is the representation of the perfect harmony between all 5 nature transformations."
"In other words, you need the combination of all 5 nature transformations to counter it." A voice said as three figures approached them.
Naruto, Sasuke and Minato had met up with them. Obito headed for them as he felt as if he had already defeated the First and Second Hokages. However, midway, his body became deformed and he landed on the ground heavily. It seemed like he wasn't in control of the Ten-Tails just yet. This was also their chance to defeat him. There wasn't much time though. Minato took the opportunity to attack Obito, but failed. Meanwhile, Obito took hold of Sasuke and Naruto despite their effort in fighting him. Minato looked at them both in horror, worried that he wouldn't make it to the both of them in time.
"I'll take care of Sasuke." Yuki told Minato as they both teleported themselves to the two young men and then teleported them away from Obito.
They had just wasted their precious time. Minato refused to believe that there was no time left. He had to live up to his reputation as the fastest man on Earth. During this time, Obito gained full control and emerged as a new man. His eyes were colder than ever. He looked at his former mentor and rushed towards him. In an instant, Minato's arm was torn off. He managed to escape however using his teleportation to appear next to Naruto once again.
"I'm fine." He told his son who had worry written all over his face.
"Are you really, Minato-sensei?" Obito asked him pointing to his ripped arm.
A small black globe was growing. Then it began glowing. Before they knew it, the light blinded them completely. Yuki could barely keep her eyes open. She couldn't see anything around her. She blinked and, all of the sudden, she could see everything so clearly. She flashed herself to Naruto's side and reached out her arm to teleport the orb away only to be pushed aside by the Second Hokage who took it upon him to do the teleportation. The light was gone. The Second Hokage came back as they heard a loud explosion elsewhere.
"It's dangerous to touch such things when you are not a reincarnation." The Second Hokage told her. "When sacrifices are to be done, you should let those who are already dead do it… unless you wish to be reborn as a dead person."
"Just in time, Second Hokage…" Minato said. "We will create an opening for you three. Make sure you hit him with your strongest jutsu."
Without wasting another second, Naruto and Sasuke ran towards Obito. Minato yelled at them for not listening to what they had just said. The two Hokages were supposed to create an opening for them. The Second Hokage shook his head as he placed a seal on Minato's back.
"You know what to do. And you…" He said as he turned his attention to Yuki. "Don't let Madara see your eyes."
Yuki blinked a few times. She didn't even realize that things appeared differently around her. The world as she knew it appeared normal once again. Minato flashed himself in front of Naruto and Sasuke, getting hit by their combo. The Second Hokage appeared behind Obito and placed his hand on his back. He then switched Obito and Minato's place. By placing his hand on Obito's back, he had also stuck Yuki's seal on, allowing her to teleport herself there and land a hit from the back. They all took a few steps back as the Amaterasu flames were burning the area widely.
"He's still alive…" Yuki murmured.
Just like a phoenix, Obito emerged from the flames and ashes of the Amaterasu and rose to the sky. He looked unscathed. Yuki squinted and noticed that his back was, however, burned by her ice. What was the difference?
"Yuki… I think our summoning time has elapsed." Kiku told Yuki suddenly. "You should still have enough nature energy for another 10 minutes."
"Thank you…" Yuki said. She then stopped herself realizing the answer to her question. As Kiku disappeared, so did the other summoning animals. Yuki rushed to the others and began explaining:
"My ice caused frostbite on Obito's back."
"So he is not immune to ice?!" Naruto asked. "That's such a weird weakness."
"No…" Yuki said wondering how Naruto could be so smart at times yet so dense at others. "Senjutsu. That's his weakness. I have 10 minutes left."
"I'll start gathering nature's energy." Naruto replied as he was now standing still.
"Two senjutsus users at such a young age." Tobirama complimented them. "This new generation is truly surpassing my generation… Poison are created during wartime, but the most beautiful flowers are also born in adversity. I don't know if that's a blessing or a curse from the previous generation."
