The Older Sister

Darcy was practically sprinting over towards the café, knowing that not only was she late—she was painfully so. She saw her sister, going over what must be the menu as she was sitting down at an outside table.

She arrived, sitting down with a brisk, "I know I'm late!"

Hermione looked at her watch, saying, "Yes, but given your tendency of being rather painfully late…" Her lips twisted into a grin. "You're not as late as you usually are."

"Oh thank you," Darcy muttered dryly. "How are you doing lately?"

"I'm doing well," she answered, studying her much younger sister. "What happened?"

"I don't know what…"

"Spare me," she told her. "I helped mum tend you when you were a child. In other words, I know your tells."

The younger woman rolled her eyes, saying, "Now I know how you keep beating me in poker."

Hermione chuckled. "Nice try. Now spill."

Taking a deep breath, she said, "Jane's been offered a job with Stark Industries—specifically with the man himself."

"And…?"

"And given everything, I don't know if I should still work for Jane if I have to deal with the asshole that helped get my sister kicked out of the country I'll have to work in," she said, setting her jaw stubbornly.

"Oh Darcy," Hermione said, moving so that she was now in the chair next to her little sister. Wrapping her arms around her, she told her quietly, "All I have ever wanted for you is to be happy and healthy. And if working for that egocentric, emotional troglodyte is in your best interest, then I think you should do it."

"I would miss Jane if I didn't work for that asshole."

"I know," Hermione murmured, rubbing her arm as she pulled back. "But I demand pictures or digital recordings of any and all pranks you pull on them. George and Fred will want them if nothing else."

Nodding she said, "Yeah, we have a deal going already."

Hermione giggled, saying, "I knew I wasn't the only brilliant one in the family."
