The Finder

Hermione sat quietly listening to the people arguing. They had come to her in the hopes of finding out some answers as to disappearances happening throughout the world. Trouble came with the fact that they all thought that they had the answers. And this without listening to whatever other people might have some idea of what was going on.

"For the love of Merlin, shut up!" They all went silent at Hermione's harsh words. "You all think you know what's going on, but no one is bloody well listening!" She looked from Stark over to Fury, then to Maria Hill, and next to Coulson. "If you want some sort of solution working together…" She looked sharply to Stark. "And yes that means you have to work well with others, as people's lives are at stake." She looked back to the others. "Then I suggest you stop talking over each other, listen to what the others have to say, and damn well use the brains you were given to come up with a solution. Otherwise, you'll all be fucking useless."

"So do tell," Tony said sourly. "Give us the answers, Ms. Know it all."

She looked to him flatly. "Oddly enough, I know enough to comprehend that I don't know it all. And if you did as much, perhaps you'd have a solution by now." Rolling her eyes, she muttered, "What do you know about the people that have gone missing?"

"Most of them no longer lived in the United States," Maria answered. "There were rumors surrounding them, but chances are good that they left because they refused to sign the Accords."

Leaning back in her chair, she stated, "Those Accords will more than likely ruin us all." Sighing heavily, she turned to Fury. "Tell me, did they themselves have the abilities or someone close to them?"

"What are you getting at?" Tony asked in a hard voice.

"You're the genius," she stated. "You tell me…what's the easiest way to get to a person with powers that would eclipse anyone going after them?"

His eyes went wide, as he whispered, "Their family."

"Exactly." She leaned back, looking over to the others. "Ross has been wanting to get at everyone that he felt got away from him. I wouldn't put it past him to do something of this sort. Trouble is that we don't have proof who is abducting these people. We can guess, but guessing amounts to something I never like doing, do you?"

"She's right," Coulson said quietly. "But what to do?"

"We can set a trap," Tony said. "Make a target so tempting that they can't resist taking them."

"Yes, Mr. Stark, and what do you think they'll do? Allow their family to be taken in without ever knowing what they do to those family members? In that case, do you think Ms. Potts will volunteer?"

Tony was glaring at Hermione for what she had said, telling her, "I signed the Accords."

"Yes, about that," Coulson said dryly. "The last time I checked your name wasn't the Easter Bunny."

Hermione chuckled, watching as Stark rolled his eyes. "You never officially signed the accords?" She stood up, walking over so that she was now face to face with the man. "The blowhard that fought tooth and nail to get them passed in the United States didn't even sign the accords himself. Do they know that I wonder?" She gave an unlady like snort. "Like it matters. Your money protects you, unlike the rest of us that are under the thumb of that so-called law."

She turned, walking away from Tony even as he was saying, "Something had to be done. The supers were out of control. And it wasn't as if Shield could do anything after they imploded."

"I agree in the fact that training and management of those without a guiding hand or government regulators wouldn't be remiss. But do tell, Mr. Stark—Given the fact that you aren't on that list and you are just as dangerous and out of control as the people you think are in the wrong, who is policing you?"

He blinked at her in shock before his face went blank. "Are you saying you're governed by the Queen?"

"No, by the British Ministry of Magic," she answered. "We have a government, schooling system, and banking that have existed over two thousand years. Trust me when I say that although we may not be perfect, we have our bases covered on how to deal with our own."

Tony's lips went thin, but he said nothing.

Hermione looked over to Coulson. "What do you wish to do about the missing people? I can search all of the British principalities as well as the U.K. itself."

"I'll split up the different countries," Coulson told her. "More than anything we're worried about the children at this point. There's no telling who the abductors are and what they want with the people."

She thought that over before asking, "Can I have the name of one of the missing persons?"

Coulson went onto his phone, saying, "Mr. Adrian Murphy of New York."

She pulled out her laptop, opening it and went straight over to one of her search engines. Soon enough, she had the man's family history, the person within his family that could be the target of this abduction, and even whom might benefit from him going missing in the first place if it isn't what they thought it was. E-mailing this information over to Coulson, her eye flicked over to Stark.

"I could e-mail it to you, but your omnipresent artificial intelligence more than likely already has all the information I just forwarded to Agent Coulson."

Hermione got to her feet, packing away her computer. "Now if you don't mind, I'm leaving. I've never been to Japan before and I've been looking forward to having a bowl of spicy miso ramen since I arrived."

She got no further than the door when her arm was grabbed and yanked to a stop. And if it hadn't been her left arm, she would have just punched him. But not only had Tony Stark grab her left forearm, but also managed to break the thin skin around the scar she had thanks to Bellatrix LeStrange torturing her.

She screamed in pain, as she yanked her arm away from him even as she kicked him straight in the groin. He dropped to his knees gasping in pain, even as tears were rolling down her face. Hermione clutched her arm to her chest, looking to Coulson.

Shock was clear on his face, as he went over to her.

"I-I have had…enough of him. Please never…have him at…any further meeting I attend," she sobbed and rushed away from them all.
