Wave your hands in the air! Wave them like you're waving down a oneshot…Yeah that doesn't work as well as I hoped it would. Oh well. Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoy the next bit.

The Godmother

Frantic. It was the only word that could come to anyone there. The usually calm, collected Hermione Granger was absolutely frantic. The thing of it was, she wasn't presenting this like most others did. She was on the computer, using Friday, and muttering to herself as she worked. It was Tony that took note of this first. And the only reason this happened at all was because she had snapped at him to shut up.

Even at her most irritated at him, she had never told him so much as to keep his opinions to himself. Going back to what she was doing, she never saw Tony or paid attention to what he was doing.

"Friday, what is she having you do for her?"

"Dr. Granger is having me search the world's airports for an unspecified individual, using facial recognition."

"Show me the image," he ordered.

A second later a floating picture of a little girl with bright red hair was staring out at him with the biggest green eyes he had ever seen. She had to be all of, what? Six perhaps? He didn't know how to tell ages of kids. She was missing her two lower front teeth with her face still holding the cherub look of a younger child. Her bright emerald eyes stared at the camera, as she was laughing with joy—though why, he didn't know. Absently he wondered if he had ever been that happy.

"Who's that?" came the question from Clint.

He flicked a look over to Clint who was standing there now with Natasha and Bruce.

Bruce put on his glasses. Squinting, he said, "I've seen that picture before."

It was then that Hermione cursed loudly and snapped at Friday, "Do you have anything yet?!"

"Not yet, Dr. Granger, but I've been able to eliminate all public transport in the closest of the states."

"Are you certain you've covered all forms of transport? The last time I checked in with you, I was informed by you that you didn't count rideshares," she pointed out to her.

There was a pause. "There was no request made for trains…"

"I said all transportation. Are trains not part of that?!" she yelled.

"Whoa," Clint breathed. "What's the matter?"

Natasha looked from the woman working frantically over to the picture. She let out a curse in Russian, going over to her friend.

"When did Lilly go missing?" she asked.

Hermione made herself stop what she was doing, taking a deep breath. She was shaking now, as she looked into her friend's eyes.

"This morning approximately eight-thirty DST she was taken at gun point from her parents in London," she answered, her voice quiet and quavering. "Given what I've been able to find out, it couldn't have been Ross or his people. Since the new Secretary of State took over, the United States has been much laxer about the Accords. And they have made it a point of telling other nations that they have to tend to their own issues. I doubt they would go to London to abduct a little girl." She swallowed thickly. "Lilly's only six, Tasha!"

Both Clint and Tony cursed to themselves, even as it looked like Bruce was about to go green. Hermione went back to what she was doing before, Tony and Bruce ended up joining her on the computer search, while both Clint and Natasha went to Shield to see what they could find out from them.

It was in the middle of the hunt that Steve and Bucky came in and went still at the activity. It was the latter who saw just how upset Hermione was. He went over to her, but didn't say anything as he did as much. Steve went over to Bruce and asked what was going on.

"Someone abducted Hermione's goddaughter," he answered in a tight voice. "A six year old girl."

Steve looked over to Hermione, who looked like she was fighting to keep herself together. She was telling Bucky what was going on and what they were doing.

"Have you come close to finding her?" Steve asked.

"I think they haven't left the U.K.," Hermione answered him. "But somehow they're staying clear of CCTV. There's only one place within London I could think of that they could be, but when it comes down to it…" She took a deep breath, trying again to calm herself. "It doesn't make sense that they would be in the wizarding community. Anyone there would know just whose daughter Lilly is!" She looked to Steve. "It would be the equivalent of kidnapping Limburg's baby."

Both Steve and Bucky sucked up a breath in shock at those words.

Hermione's phone rang and she answered it with, "What have you found out, Harry?"

"We know where they are," he answered. "And you will never believe who it is."

The doors to the warehouse blew in with a violent jolt, which had many there diving for cover. The dust, dirt, and splinters from the shattered doors came raining down in an almost gentle way and silence once again had those there looking around in anticipation of what was to come.

Lilly, who up until this time hadn't been speaking at all, looked to the man next to her.

"My family is very angry." She looked over to the door and back to him. "And if my Auntie 'Mione is here, she's going to make you cry."

The group of mercenaries looked to each other and back to the front where doors no longer stood. A huge cobra made of fire moved into the building, making the men, all of whom were used to combat, recoil from the beast. None of them had seen the like before. And judging from their reactions, most of them were praying they'd live through this one time. They had been told that the child would bring out the parents and perhaps several of their allies.

"What is going…" Deloris Umbridge started, but stopped in her tracks at the sight of the large fire snake. She yanked out her wand and attempted to put out the fires magically.

Not only did her attempts fail, but the snake struck her violently and tossed her off to the other side of the building. The snake wrapped itself around Lilly, which pushed the mercenaries a few meters away from the little witch. A wall of fire went up and around the little girl, shielding her from the men and their weapons.

The Avengers came strolling into the warehouse, weapons drawn and a moment later the men were declaring that they weren't being paid nearly well enough. Their firearms were dropped and soon they were being taken away by Shield. The firewall dropped and the fire snake vanished, revealing Hermione and Lilly hugging each other tightly.

Hermione peppered Lilly's face with kisses, telling her, "I was so worried about you!"

"I knew you'd find me," Lilly chimed in. "You always do. So do Daddy and Mummy." She went silent. "Are they…"

"Right outside the door, but we wanted to make sure you were okay first. Your mum and da were about ready to rush in here spells flying before I got them to see reason. And it's like I've told you before, rushing in without a plan is never a good thing." Pulling back, she murmured, "The snake didn't scare you, did it?"

She shook her head no. "I knew it was you."

"Good," she murmured, kissing her forehead one more time. "You're such a brave girl, my little love."

"You are too, Aunt 'Mione," she told her, hugging her back. "Can I see Mummy and Daddy now?"

She looked over to where the others were checking out what happened to Umbridge, who was smelling like barbequed mutton at that point. "Press your face against my shoulder, Lilly. We need to get past some nasty stuff that isn't good to see." She swallowed thickly at the sight of the half burnt completely dead woman. "I'd be closing my eyes now if I could."

"Okay," she answered, pressing her eyes against her godmother's throat.

Bucky went over to them. "Close your eyes, Hermione. I'll guide you out."

"I did…"

"You did what you had to do," he said softly. "Now press your face against my chest and I'll get you two out of here."

Lilly lifted her face slightly to look at Bucky. "Hi, I'm Lilly Potter."

Bucky couldn't help but to smile at her. "Hello, pretty girl. My name is Bucky."

"Hi, Bucky," Lilly giggled.

"Head down," he ordered gently. "And let's get out of here."

Lilly put her head back down again, as did Hermione, who pressed her face against his chest. He walked them out of the warehouse and over to Harry and Ginny. Grabbing their youngest, they were weeping, hugging, and kissing Lilly.

Hermione lifted her face, just enough to watch them as they were hugging and laughing together.

"There's no way that Umbridge would know how to hire muggles to do the kidnapping," Hermione said softly.

"Which means?" Bucky asked.

"It looks like non-magicals are in charge of the abductions, but why team up with a muggle hater like her?" She leaned back against his chest. "James?"

"Yeah?"

"Will you help me hunt them down?"

"You don't even have to ask," he told her, kissing her temple.

She turned and hugged her lover, allowing herself to cry out the stress of the last several hours. He kept quiet, as he rubbed her back and thought of all the different ways he'd kill the people that made his woman weep. No, he thought, it wasn't going to be pretty. Not in the least.
