The Trainee
"As good of a maneuver kicking a man in the balls is, it can't be your only defense," Melinda May told her, as she was circling the woman on the mat with her.
"It isn't my only line of physical defense," Hermione told her. "It's one of my best though. Which, if you think of it, is rather sad."
Melinda tried not to laugh. But the woman was so earnest in her answer that she couldn't help but to smile.
"I know you know the basics. So this won't be that difficult."
"That's not what I'm concerned with," she answered. Standing up as tall as she could, she told her, "I made it a point to ask that you didn't come at me with a knife. There's a reason behind that."
"You mean other than that behemoth over in the corner with two grim looking kids, all of whom are about ready to hurt me if I so much as breathe on you wrong?" the Asian woman asked dryly.
Hermione smiled and waved at them. Bucky didn't break out of his stone-cold killer face, but the kids smiled back and waved.
"No, I was tortured with a cursed knife," she told the other woman. "I still have issues with knives." Hermione looked to Melinda, adding, "I didn't want to accidently hex you into next week out of blind panic brought on by PTSD."
Melinda nodded to this. "And the bodyguards?"
"They love me," she sighed. "I'm sorry about…"
"No," she stopped her with one word and went on with, "Don't apologize for being lucky." Melinda smiled warmly. "Tell you what, I'll train you and the kids together. That way if anything happens, we'll all be sure they can take care of themselves." She looked to Rosie. "Besides, I don't think she's flexible enough to be doing your moves yet."
Blushing, Hermione said, "Sounds like a plan."
