Sunday October 25th, today was Emmalyn's birthday she was going to be 4 years old. It was a going to be an exciting day. As Eddie came out of the bathroom and snuck quietly passed Jaime who was still sleeping like a baby, it was 5am. She shut the door quietly and walked out to the kitchen.
She turned the coffee pot on and then reached into her bra where she pulled out the pregnancy test she just took. Looking at it still in shock. It was positive. She was nervous to tell jaime but excited at the same time. She opened up the cabinet coffee cups were kept in and put it in one torward the front that Jaime would take and hopefully the police officer in him would see it. She poured herself a glass of water and and sat on the couch in silence while she waited for Jaime to get up.
It was 20 minutes later and Jaime still wasn't up but the coffee was done so she poured herself a cup and then finally heard their bedroom door open. She closed her eyes as she got nervous but couldn't help but smile she took a deep breathe. The anticipation had been killing her. Jaime came and greeted her.
"Good morning beautiful." He kissed her softly. She smiled and said good morning. She stepped back to observe him open the cabinet to get out the coffee cup.
He opened the door and stared at it comprehending what it was. He looked at eddie like he'd just seen a ghost. She smiled like a school girl.
"Whattt!?" He said smiling ear to ear. And then picked up the test to examine it more. He studied it and just was so shocked.
"What do you think?" Eddie asked him, he set it on the counter and took Eddie into his arms hugging her tight with his arms around her neck.
"I can't believe it" he said as he still held her in his arms.
"I know, crazy right?" She said as he pulled away and tilted her chin up to him smiling, she got tears in her eyes and Jaime kissed her.
"How'd it happen though we've been careful? I mean I know you aren't on the pill but like I've always pulled out, we've used condoms. so I just wanna know which time it happened." Jaime said out of curiosity.
"Yeah I have no idea but I'd imagine the doctor can give us an estimate around when if he tells us when we're due." She said.
"So are we telling everyone today or should we wait?" Jaime asked her. She said she wants to wait because she thinks it's really early but doesn't know for sure.
"And as far as telling Emmalyn I think we should wait so she doesn't let it slip, that girl likes to talk and the last thing we need is her telling her class or the family before we get the chance to." Eddie explained and Jaime 100% agreed.
"Oh my god Eddie I can't believe we're having a baby.." Jaime said trying to still process.
"Are you happy?" She asked scrunching her face unsure.
"Are you kidding me!? Come here" he grabbed her and hugged her so tight.
"I'm so happy" he continued. Eddie didn't say anything.
"Are you happy?" Jaime asked her she pulled away and looked at him like he was crazy.
"Oh I'm ecstatic!" She exclaimed and shared a sweet kiss.
"I love you." Jaime expressed holding his forehead on hers staring into her eyes with his hand wrapped in her hair.
"I love you too" she replied giving him a peck on the cheek before they let go of each other.
They poured there coffee and sat on the couch snuggled up watching tv.
Emmalyn didn't wake up until 7am. Jaime carried her out and Eddie put a candle in a waffle for her to blow out. They sang her happy birthday and she blew it out. She clapped when they clapped too. She was just too adorable.
"Your 4 years old Em can you do this?" Eddie asked her holding up four fingers. She did it perfectly.
"So when someone asks you how old you are you hold that many fingers up." Jaime told her, as she sat there studying her fingers she held up. She looked at jaime puzzled.
"Daddy. How old are you?" She asked he couldn't help but laugh.
"I'm 27, but I don't have enough fingers to hold up" he explained. She shoved a big bite of waffle in her mouth and started to talk.
"You should get more" she said with her mouth full. Eddie laughed as she sipped her coffee and Jaime shook his head while he laughed too.
When they were done they got ready for church and then headed straight to Frank's.
They walked in and the table was already set, there were balloons hung on Emmalyn's chair, they ordered pizza and planned to have cake and ice cream for dessert.
They prayed and dug in, they decided to have dessert at the same time as the pizza because it was something different and why not.
"So hows preschool big 4 year old?" Nikki asked Emmalyn.
"I like school." She said.
"What is your favorite part about school and why?" Erin asked her.
"I like my teacher the most cause she loves me." Emmalyn said and took another bite of her cake. Eddie froze as she had ice cream in her mouth she forced it down. Jaime put his spoon down and sat back in his chair.
"Oh boy" he said under his breathe knowing this was not gonna be good. Everyone looked at their faces when Emmalyn said that and didn't know how to react. Some of them cleared their throat, some shoved more food in their mouth, and some took a drink. Everyone knew it was Sydney.
"Excuse me." Eddie said getting up and leaving the room.
"Eddie." Jaime said as he got up to go after her.
"Hey, honey." His voice disappeared as he walked further away.
"You know who loves you way more then your teacher ever will Emmalyn?" Frank voiced over the silent table and Emmalyn looked in his direction at him she shook her head no.
"Mommy and daddy love you way more then your teacher does okay? Your teacher can say she loves you but always remember mommy and daddy love you the most. And everyone sitting at this table loves you more too. Okay? Does that make sense?" Frank asked her. He knew she was young but he tried to dumb it down as much he could. Just hoping she understood as she said "okay grandpa".
Jaime was in the hall with Eddie sitting on the stairs. He had his arm around her rubbing her arm up and down as she just needed to collect herself.
"Honey I think you have to step back and assess this situation a little. She is only 4 she doesn't understand what she's saying." Jaime explained to Eddie who was very upset.
"I feel like a failure if she thinks of her teacher like that. It also doesn't help that its your ex fiancé Jaime. I mean how would you feel" she expressed.
"I know eddie I would feel the same way but-" Eddie cut him off.
"You can't think I'm over reacting! Because-" Eddie called out but Jaime stopped her.
"Eddie. Stop. Look at me. Look at me. You are the most amazing mother to that little girl. You learn as you go, I'm still learning things too, doesn't mean you don't love her more then Sydney. That's Sydney's job, she's supposed to earn the kids trust and love so they feel safe there. I mean isn't it good she's not screaming and crying to go there because she doesn't feel comfortable?" He asked her. She just listened to everything he said and felt better.
"Let's go back in there and be happy, it's her birthday today and don't forget about the other one we're bringing into the world in a few months. There's more to be thankful for." Jaime said putting his hand on her stomach. She was content and felt bad for reacting how she did she laid her head on his shoulder while he comforted her and kissed her forehead.
They got back to the table and everyone looked at them hoping it was all okay, and it was.
"Sorry." Eddie said to everyone. But they all were very understanding.
"Mommy where did you and daddy go?" Emmalyn asked.
"Mommy needed some air is all" Eddie told her.
"Why?" Emmalyn asked, but pop intervened.
"I think it's time for the birthday girl to open presents." He got up to grab the stack. Danny and Jaime cleared the table quick before she started.
"Jaime get my phone out of the bag for pictures!" Eddie hollered to the kitchen where he was. Him and Danny came and sat back down and Jaime handed Eddie her phone.
She took pictures as she opened all the cards and gifts. She was so excited about everyone of them and wanted to open them all as soon as possible. Jaime and Eddie sat there smiling, parenthood has sure brought in so much excitement to their lives and they couldn't wait to extend it.
