It was Thursday, Thanksgiving day, they were eating at 3. Eddie couldn't wait to pig out, she was always hungry for whatever food was available but she's been craving stuffing for days now.
Jaime took off today or else he could miss dinner but planned on working a double shift to make up for it. He'd go in late tonight and get home later in the morning. Eddie would go in at 3 on Friday so he'd get a few hours in to sleep until then because Emmalyn would be home.
"Are you excited to tell the family today?" Jaime asked when she sat down on the couch next to him to watch tv.
"Yeah I mean I'm nervous a little but I think it's just anticipation." Eddie said, Jaime put his arm around her.
"It'll be great." He smiled and tickled her shoulder.
"I just hope Emmalyn doesn't spill the beans before us haha" Eddie said. They told her last night at bedtime, she doesn't completely understand but she tried hard to. They waited to see what she would say when she woke up from her nap.
So far the only thing she said was, this morning during breakfast. She said "mommy is the baby still in your belly?" And Eddie explained how it was going to be in there for a long time yet. But that was it.
"I'm going to start to get ready" Eddie said and got up to head to there room.
At 2 Emmalyn had gotten up and came out of her room. She went in to see Her parents getting ready in their room.
"Oh good morning sweetie, how did you sleep?" Jaime said kneeling to give her a hug and a kiss.
"Good. Mommy?" She quickly was distracted and approached Eddie in the bathroom doing her makeup. Jaime turned around and observed what she was going to say.
"What?" She asked and bend down to kiss her on the cheek.
"Are you excited for thanksgiving?!" Eddie asked her as she was probably the most excited out of everyone.
"Yes, mommy how did the baby get in your belly?" She asked pointing to her stomach.
Eddie was surprised and at a loss for words, she glanced over Emmalyn and saw Jaime sitting on the bed, smiling at her like he's so happy it wasn't him she was asking. Eddie squinted her one eye at him, annoyed he thought this was funny.
"Um, well sweetie. When a mommy and a daddy love each other a lot they can make a baby" she said bluntly, hoping to satisfy her.
Jaime grinned and folded his hands listening. He thought this was great.
"But who put the baby in there?" She continued.
"Well technically daddy did so why don't you ask him the questions you have." Eddie smiled and sent her off to jaime. Who's face went blank, he got nervous. She looked at him and smiled. She wasn't going to let him get out of this conversation. Emmalyn turned and approached Jaime.
"Daddy how did you put a baby in mommy's belly?" She continued. Jaime just wanted to give her an answer to satisfy her so this would stop.
"Well... I love mommy so much and when that happens...a piece of daddy joins with a piece of mommy and it slowly grows into a baby in mommy's belly." He said, Eddie thought his answer was perfect and it should leave her content.
"When will the baby be done growing?" She asked. Finally an easier question he thought.
"This may, which is a few months away." He said. She stood there thinking about all of this. Jaime raising his eyebrows exchanging looks with Eddie hoping this was the end of the conversation.
"Why don't we go get dressed Em." Eddie said as she finished up my spraying her face with setting spray and walking out of the bathroom. Emmalyn ran out of the room to hers and Eddie followed her. Jaime exhaled a deep breathe and finished getting dressed.
When they got to the big house they sent Emmalyn off with her cousins to play and they helped in the kitchen.
It was only 15 minutes and they were ready to sit down and eat. Pop yelled for the kids to come to the table. Jaime put Emmalyn in her seat and they sat down to pray. Frank did a nice longer prayer beings it was thanksgiving. They all picked there heads back up and started to go for the food.
"Wait wait wait. Aren't we forgetting somthing" frank said. Everyone exchanged looks unsure.
"Oh right. It's thanksgiving" Erin said figuring it out.
"Good. Erin then you start." Pop said.
"I'm thankful that everyone is around the table today." She said looking at Nikki who was contemplating going to a boyfriends family dinner instead.
Then went frank, Nikki, Danny, Sean, jack, pop. Then it was Jaime's turn.
"I'm thankful that my family is healthy." He said smiling at his glowing wife. Next was Emmalyn.
"Emmalyn what are you thankful for?" Pop asked her. Jaime smiled over her looking at eddie. Eddie leaned in and whispered in her ear. Emmalyn smiled while everyone waited for her to say somthing.
"For the baby in mommy's belly." She said smiling at Eddie pointing at her stomach. Eddie couldn't help but smile and nod that it was true. Jaime looked around at everyone's shocked faces and smiled.
"What!?" Erin, Sean, jack, and pop said.
"Oh my gosh congratulations!" Nikki said.
"Wow, congratulations!" Frank said. Everyone was so excited and smiling.
"Seriously!?" Danny said looking at jaime.
"Seriously." Jaime said laughing.
"Way to go!" He said beaming he shook his hand across the table, both having to get up out of their chairs a little. Danny looked at eddie and decided he wanted to hug her so he walked around the table and she stood up for a hug, everyone else followed, hugging both of them.
After that was all done they sat down and were ready to eat.
"Alright. Pass the potatoes." Frank said. Everyone laughed and started to pass all the food and eat.
"So when are you due eddie?" Erin asked her.
"End of May! We just had our first appointment last week. I'm 12 weeks along" she told everyone.
"Wow. Amazing. So were you guys surprised?" She asked.
"I had felt just different leading up to take the test so I wouldn't say I was shocked but it certainly is like holy crap you know?" She explained.
"What was your reaction kid?" Danny said looking at jaime. He swallowed the food in his mouth and started to talk.
"Oh yeah. I was shocked." He told him. Danny smiled.
"I remember that feeling. It's a scary feeling but it's a good one." Danny said reflecting on his relationship with Linda.
"And no matter if it was planned or not it's always the same feeling." frank added.
"Which one of us wasn't planned?" Danny asked curious as to who they didn't want, he laughed.
"Well, you were planned Danny, Erin was planned, joe was planned and Jaime you were a plan but you came along a few months short of when we wanted. So I guess none of you were really unplanned. We were responsible and took extra precautions when the time wasn't good." Frank said. Everyone came to an agreement on that. Jaime and Eddie were quiet as both of them knew it was not planned, but it wasn't unwanted.
"So have you told your sergeant yet?" Erin asked, Eddie said not yet. Pop and frank looked at each other.
"It's probably somthing you should do sooner then later, on the streets isn't the safest place to be." Pop told her.
"But isn't that like breaking the fourteenth amendment or whatever discrimination falls under?" Nikki asked.
"Not necessarily. It's a safety precaution." Frank said.
"But isn't that the mother's choice?" Nikki assumed.
"In some cases yes. It's a grey area." Frank said not knowing how to say it.
"Well women should have the choice to do what they want when they want." Nikki said very frustrated. Something was on her mind. And everyone suspected it.
"Is this about you being here instead of that Collin kids house?" Erin asked her bluntly as it seemed she was not a fan. Nikki looked at her and shook her head no.
"No I wanted to be here but he was just not supportive of my decision that I made myself." She said taking an aggressive bite of green beans. Everyone exchanged looks of concern.
"Well I hope he can respect you for other decisions you make." Frank told her looking over his glasses. Nikki looked at frank and shook her head.
"I wish he would." She said shaking her head.
"Nikki don't let a guy like that into your life. Your smarter then that." Jaime told her.
"Yeah you got any issues with that you call me and I'll straighten him out" Danny said, that was his parenting style, put the fear of god in them. Nikki was turned off by that, she liked Jaime's mindset way better.
After they were done eating Jaime, Eddie, frank and Erin were cleaning up in the kitchen.
"So how did Emmalyn react to the good news?" Frank asked them.
"Ha well good until this morning. She had a lot of questions we were not prepared for." Jaime told him widening his eyes and Frank smiled.
"Like what?" He stopped and asked.
"She wanted to know how the baby got there, who put it there, and how long it will be there." Jaime explained.
"And after we explained briefly that daddy put it there she wanted to know how" Eddie laughed and Jaime did too shaking his head. Frank grinned and shook his head.
"And What did you say?" He asked.
"Well I said you know when a mommy and a daddy love each other a lot they can make a baby. By taking a piece of me and a piece of mommy it grows into a baby. And that seemed to content her." Jaime said. Frank shook his head agreeing that it was a good explanation.
"I still have that children's book that I used on all you kids that explains it for little kids" Frank said looking at eddie asking if she'd be interested.
"Oh that'd be great!" Eddie exclaimed looking At Jaime hitting his arm. Jaime stepped back in thought.
"Um I don't know dad doesn't it use the politically correct words and stuff?" Jaime questioned.
"Oh I don't know about that yet frank, last thing we need is her teacher telling us she explained to the class how her daddy put his penis in her mommy and now she's pregnant. I can hear it now." Eddie said laughing along with frank and Jaime.
"Well tell you what. I'll find it and you can keep it for when your ready." He told them. They agreed on that plan and continued to clean up after dinner. Please input content
