It was Monday December 7th, Eddie was off and Jaime worked 9-5. Eddie came out of their bedroom at 8 to see Jaime in uniform cleaning up the kitchen while Emmalyn had been watching tv.
"Wow you really know how to get me don't ya Mr.Reagan." She said blushing at how attractive he looked wiping the countertop down in his uniform she couldn't take it. He smirked playfully at her in her silk blue robe.
"Oh yeah?" He said then glancing at there daughter watching tv quietly just in the living area off the kitchen. He leaned in and whispered.
"Show me what you got going on under there and I'll see what I can do." He said smiling. She pulled away and blushed, he planted a sweet kiss on her lips.
"Later Jaime, besides I gotta get her ready and off to school." She said and he agreed it wasn't a good time.
Eddie had set up a play date with another little boy who was in her class she talked about all the time. His name was Brody.
So after she was done school they met up outside and she car pulled Brody and his mom back to their house. They were so cute in the car together. Not to mention the mom was super nice and cool. Her name was kayla and she was younger then Eddie by a couple of years and could tell she still liked to go out on the town for fun. She just came off like that.
For lunch eddie made Grilled cheese and tomato soup, it was a cold snowy day. Kayla helped her cut up carrots and celery to also have with peanut butter.
"So Brody tells me your expecting?" Kayla asked looking at eddies stomach. Thank god she was or it would be an awkward afternoon.
"Ha yes yes we are." She said caught of guard. She did show a little bump but it wasn't completely obvious.
"That's exciting. I'm trying to get CJ to have another one but Brody is such a terror sometimes." She explained. Eddie laughed
"Oh I know what you mean. Missy over their has her moments sometimes me and Jaime think, what the heck are we thinking" Eddie said laughing in a joking matter.
"Well I'll tell you boys are just a different breed. There aggressive and out of control." Kayla said. Eddie wasn't impressed that she was insinuating boys were more difficult. She never had a girl who was she to judge. Maybe she was just not into being a parent.
Eddie stopped herself. And thought of how to speak.
"Yeah I bet, girls are more sassy with an attitude. oh and the screaming. That really rattles your head. Haha" she said. Kayla laughed and didn't disagree.
They all sat down for lunch and laughed at things the kids would say to each other. Emmalyn got peanut butter on her cheek.
"You have a poopy on your face haha" Brody said laughing and pointing. Emmalyn laughed along with him.
"Hey. Brode, enough." Kayla told him. Eddie wiped her face while she giggled. Eddie was a little surprised, they didn't talk like that in their house so seeing Emmalyn laugh was just a shock to her.
"No now you have poopy in your mouth." Emmalyn said as she watched Brody take a bite of celery that had peanut butter on it.
"Emmalyn Nicole. Do we talk like that?! You wanna potty talk you go talk to the potty. Those words do not belong at the table." Eddie told her. She got shy and ate like the good polite little girl Jaime and Eddie were raising her to be.
"Sorry. Like I said. Boys are a lot." Kayla said to her. Eddie just tried to smile and nod.
It was around 4:30 when they decided to go home. Eddie offered to drive them back to their car but kayla insisted on calling a cab. The two toddlers gave a cute little hug to say goodbye.
"Well this was fun! Thanks so much for having us!" Kayla said.
"Yeah it was no problem!" Eddie responded. They walked out of the apartment and Eddie closed and locked the door behind her.
"Wow." She said to herself she was exhausted she had no idea they'd stay that long. Emmalyn started running around. The place was a mess with toys. And the kitchen was still a hot mess from lunch. Jaime would be home soon to go with her for her first parent teacher conference.
The kid tv show paw patrol came on and the theme song started to play. Emmalyn ran up onto the couch and started jumping and singing (I mean screaming) the song. She was full of energy and Eddie was clueless on why. They didn't have any dessert and she hadn't napped today how was she so energetic?
"Hey! Ah uh. Get down." Eddie said clapping her hands together yelling from the kitchen as she peered over the counters with the half wall behind them that joined with the living room.
Emmalyn continued to jump, ignoring Eddie and singing louder. She shook her head and opened the dishwasher to put the dirty dishes in it. Ignoring the fact she wasn't listening. She was exhausted. The last thing she felt like was dealing with a crazy toddler right now. She stopped and took a deep breath ready to try again.
"EMMALYN NICOLE REAGAN!" She shouted as Jaime came home she exchanged looks with him. Emmalyn looked at eddie.
"Get down and clean up your toys." Eddie said bringing it back a notch to hide her frustration from Jaime. She didn't want Jaime to see she was struggling. Jaime stood there and waited to see what Emmalyn would do. She didn't see Jaime had come home.
She turned back around and continued to jump and sing at the top of her lungs. Eddie was getting a headache. She got pissed and shook her head giving up now that Jaime was home she continued to fill the dishwasher.
Jaime could see Eddie was at her wits end. He walked to there table which was a mess with coloring books and crayons. He set his bag down and took his coat off setting it there with his bag. He approached the couch where Emmalyn was jumping and stood behind her watching, he put his hands on his hips.
"Hey!" Jaime called out. Emmalyn immediately stopped and sat down by landing on her butt she turned around to see Jaime. She got scared.
"Are you being disobedient?!" Jaime questioned with his tough dad voice that he low key used at work when he commanded orders to his men. Eddie stood in the kitchen watching with her chin in the air observing.
"Why aren't you listening to mommy?!" Jaime asked her more. She shrugged her shoulders.
"Get up, go say sorry and give mommy a hug then your gonna clean up all these toys!" Jaime ordered. She got up and did exactly what he said. He grabbed his stuff he set on the table and went to their bedroom to put it away. Eddie went in after him. She wanted to make sure he was okay, not that he was too tough on Em, she deserved it but it was almost like something else was on his mind.
"Hey you okay?" Eddie asked him as he got changed into a nice outfit for the conference.
"Yeah why." He said blowing it off.
"It seems like you are bringing some work home with you...Sergeant..." Eddie stated. He didn't reply to her, he buttoned up his shirt he was wearing tonight.
"How was work?" She asked.
"Fine." He told her.
"Jaime what's wrong?" She insisted on getting the answer.
"I just don't know why she's been acting out. What's this Brody kid like? Is it him?" He asked. Eddie raised her eyebrows thinking the same thing.
"I think it might be actually." She told him. She explained some of the things that went on today during the play date and how the mom was.
"Like he started being silly and saying like potty talk and then she joined in and I was appalled. I immediately called her out and corrected it but it was just a surprise to me." Eddie told him as he was getting ready.
"Potty talk?" Jaime questioned what that ment.
"Yeah like Em got peanut butter on her face and Brody was like "you have poop on your face" and then he took a bite of peanut butter and Em was like "now your eating poop" like it was just not appropriate, especially at the table Jaime." Eddie told him and he contemplated in thought thinking it didn't sound like something Emmalyn would say, and was surprised.
Eddie got ready while Jaime and Emmalyn ate dinner and waited for there babysitter to arrive.
knock * knock*
Jaime opened the door and there Nikki was.
She gave Jaime a hug and Emmalyn was ready to play. Eddie came out ready to go.
"Hey Nik, feel free to eat we have plenty. She goes down around 8, pull-up, brush teeth, story and that's about it. Feel free to call us with any questions!" Eddie said as Jaime helped put her coat on.
"I'm sure we'll be great. Have a good time!" She said. Emmalyn gave Jaime and Eddie a hug and kiss goodnight. There conference was from 6-7 and they were gonna grab a little dinner afterward while they had the opportunity.
"We should be home no later then 9" Jaime said as they left.
On the way over Jaime was up tight as he drove.
"Jaime are you sure nothings bothering you?" Eddie asked again. He grabbed and held her hand tight.
"I'm fine hon." He said and let out a breathy laugh.
"Ok so what happened at work today." Eddie asked. He didn't answer.
"Jaime!" She shouted.
"What!? Nothing I said everything's fine." Jaime said frustrated she wasn't listening to her.
"Whatever." She let go of his hand and dropped the subject. It was silent for about a minute.
"2 of my officers got shot at today. There okay but. You know." Jaime finally said.
"Oh well jaime you can't blame yourself." Eddie reassured him and rubbed his arm.
"No I was the one who sent them in. It was my fault." He explained.
"Jaime there alive. You had to do what you had to too." Eddie told him. He knew she was right.
They got to the preschool and started to walk toward the doors to greet Emmalyn's teacher who was waiting for them. also known as jaimes ex fiancé.
"I need a beer after this." Jaime said under his breathe to Eddie.
"Yeah at least you can have one." She replied. They followed Sydney in to the classroom and sat down.
"Let me just start off by saying she's an amazing little girl." Sydney said.
"Thank you." Jaime said.
"Her tempers have gotten better however she does act up around certain children." The teacher said.
"Would one of these children happen to be Brody? I know you probably can't say but we had a play date earlier today and I have never seen her act so foul mouthed before." Eddie explained.
"Yeah so unfortunately that's just the age. She could hear it from any of the kids. We try not to tolerate the potty mouth but we can only do so much." Sydney expressed.
"Understandable. I told her today that if she wants to talk like that she can go tell it to the potty cause I was not going to tolerate it." Eddie told her.
"If I ever hear it I'd try soap." Jaime said. Eddie was taken back and shocked Jaime thought that. He was not usually has hard ass as her.
"It worked on me." Jaime started defending the idea.
"I don't know if that's the best idea, in reference to the past Emmalyn has had... I think talking it out would work best" Sydney said.
"Well when you have kids let me know how your discipline system works out." Jaime said and got up angry like he was gonna leave.
"Jaime! Sit down!" Eddie demanded. He stopped and took a deep breathe, he sat back down.
"Sorry." He said looking at Sydney who seemed a little scared.
"Long day Officer?" Sydney joked taking a stab back at him.
"Hey for your information he's a sergeant and yeah he had a long day. We don't have time to sit here while you tell us how to parent. Show us her grades or whatever we're even looking at here so we can be done with this awkwardness and go on our merry way." Eddie voiced defending Jaime and herself.
"Sorry. This wasn't how I thought this was going to go at all." Sydney expressed.
"No shit." Jaime sarcastically said.
"Jaime." Eddie said.
"I have an idea." Jaime said. They both looked at him waiting.
"Let's just put it all out there. Okay? So yes Sydney and I were engaged. We lived together, we slept together-" Jaime said getting cut off by Eddie.
"Where are you going with this." Eddie said defensive as she was not interested in hearing about his past sex life with this women.
"Just hear me out. She got a job offer in London and decided to go. She gave the ring back and that was it. Did it hurt me? Yes. Did I get over it? Yes. A few weeks later you came along Eddie and here we are. Now we have a family of our own. My point is we've all come a long way and let's just put our past lives in the past and live now. Okay?" He asked. They both agreed on everything.
"Let's just. Can we just all start over?" Jaime asked. Everyone was in agreement to that. Second time around went a lot better, like it should
