Higgins was grateful when she was told to go in first to see Magnum with Kumu but now standing in the room she wondered if she was able to take in what she was seeing. Forcing down the bile threatening her throat, she walked in taking slow and steady steps with Kumu. She thought she was holding Kumu, giving the older women the support but at that moment, she realized how much she was leaning on Kumu. Hooked up with a dozen machines, Magnum looked lifeless and it was giving her chills. The sight of a breathing tube down Magnum's throat was immensely disturbing and the sound of the ventilator sending air down to his lungs was unbearable to hear.

"Hey, Thomas," Kumu whispered as she stepped closer, leaned over the bed's side rails, and carefully rubbed Magnum's forearm. "It's going to be okay." She croaked before she kissed his forehead. She wiped the tears welled up in her eyes before she moved and gave the space to Higgins.

Behaving as normally as she could, Higgins took a step to the front and her hand quickly found Magnum's. She rubbed the back of his hand with her thumb. Tears were threatening the corner of her eyes and she wondered why. He pulled through and she should be happy. Higgins opened her mouth but she was all chocked up that nothing came out. She held on to his pale fingers for a minute, hoping she would feel him squeezing her hand although she knew it was unlikely to happen. When it was time for them to leave, she touched the side of his face before she pressed a soft kiss on the side of his head. "Rest well, Thomas."

"Tommy, you got to stop giving me grey hairs, man," Rick's voice was soft as he spoke to unconscious Magnum. TC had his right hand draped over Rick and his left hand on Magnum's forearm. Both men stood there in silence, watching over their boy as the machines attached to Magnum continued to beep faintly in the background.

Rick felt a squeeze on his shoulder and heard TC's whisper. "It's time." Rick up looked briefly at TC before he leaned in and touched Magnum's shoulder.

"You hang in there, you hear me?" Rick spoke, his voice was raping like an old man and he blamed all on the stress he had for the day.

"Don't go anywhere, brother. We will be back tomorrow." TC promised before he gently held Rick's arm and guided him to walk out. Once they were out, they saw Katsumoto waiting.

"Listen, I appreciate you guys letting me stay."

"We know he's in good hands," TC spoke. "You call us if anything changes?"

"Of course." Katsumoto nodded before he vanished through the door. TC who started to walk back to the waiting to find Higgins and Kumu realized that Rick was not following. He turned back and found Rick standing at the same spot, looking at the door leading to Magnum's room.

TC sighed softly before he walked back and gently nudged his friend.

"I don't want to leave him, TC." Rick's voice cracked and his expression dulled.

"I know." TC consoled his friend. "You know why we are letting Gordon to stay for the first shift, right?"

Rick nodded with lips pressed together.

"Come on." TC draped his arm over Rick again and nudged him walked together. "We will be back first thing tomorrow morning to see our boy."

- MAGNUM PI - MAGNUM PI -

Katsumoto has paid visits to ICU tons of time before in his career and heck, he has seen patients in far worse condition but today he just stood there, paralyzed at the entrances of the room. The sight of the man on the bed that was supposedly not his friend was frightening enough to send chills down his spine.

"You okay there, Detective?"

A soft voice snapped Katsumoto out of his wild thoughts. He looked over to where the voice resonated and found a nurse beside Magnum's bed, smiling fondly at him. Katsumoto quickly schooled his features and cleared his throat as he walked closer. "I'm fine." He assured her.

She fiddled with the machines attached to Magnum, noted the readings before she left him alone. Dr. Anu was right about the nurses in the ICU, they were not only taking good care of Magnum, they also made sure he was comfortable. The night shift nurse, Malia didn't want to hear anything about him spending the night in the plastic chair. She brought him a simple armchair, a pillow to slip behind his back and a blanket to cover him for the night.

Katsumoto settled in the chair with his eyes on Magnum. Everything that had happened was catching up on him and he didn't know when sleep snatched his away. When he blinked his eyes open, the nurse was back to check on Magnum for the second round. He closed his eyes, the darkness waiting to soak him up was too hard to resist. When the nurse came in for the third time, Katsumoto was awake although it was early wee hours. His eyes followed the nurse and she must have sensed it because he found her smiling at him and saying. "Don't worry. It is a standard procedure to keep a close eye after major surgery. Like I said before, his vitals are all on the right track."

Katsumoto nodded shyly. He didn't mean to question by staring her. He decided needed a break, stood up and his muscles screamed in discomfort. That was when he realized the armchair was not as comfortable as he thought it would be. Well, it was not like he had much choice. That sucker will have to do for the night. He walked a little along the hallway, grab something to bite in the nearby vending machine and was back in the room before Malia could leave. Katsumoto knew she was about to conclude her third routine check when she picked up the bowl.

"Can I do that?" Katsumoto asked softly.

"Of course." She nodded. "Here." She passed the small bowl of ice cubes to Katsumoto. "Call me if you need anything."

Once she left, Katsumoto walked to the right side of the bed and stood as close as he could. Carefully, he took the small sponge, drenched it and swabbed along Magnum's dry lips. He repeated a few times and when he felt the moist was enough to soothe Magnum's dry lips, he dropped the sponge back into the bowl. A few minutes passed with Katsumoto just staring at Magnum's still face. For the longest he had known the PI, he had never missed seeing a cocky grin on that face. Sometimes, he firmly believe Magnum wore them simply to annoy him and he wasn't going to lie, there were times he wished he could wipe the grin off that face. Funny how life works, because right now, it felt like he would do anything to see that same annoying cocky grin again on Magnum's face.
