Well, it certainly has been a while. Please review if you'd like me to continue.
Santana hasn't given much thought on their divorced couple dynamic as of late. Co-parenting works, they follow their respective schedules with Connor in an almost automatic manner.
This is, of course, ideal for Santana. It allows her to think of Brittany as Connor's hidden other mother, which is the way she's found, mature as she's always been, to better deal – or not at all – with their recent divorce.
And so here we found her, waiting for her coffee in the place she goes to every morning, after having dropped Connor off at Brittany's. They live very close, for their son's sake, which always gives the brunette an underlining apprehension of running into Brittany in the coffee shop or anywhere else, really.
"Thank you, good morning", she says, as the barista hands her her quick, industrialized, unhealthy bagel and coffee. Just as she likes it. She walks hurriedly down the sidewalk on her way short way to work, too absorbed in her phone to notice the first few people wearing masks who pass her by.
As she enters the mirrored, fancy building she works in, she immediately snaps into her professional persona. Cold faced, head held high and utterly unapproachable.
Santana still hasn't quite grown accustomed to having a corner office. Honestly, it feels bigger than necessary, and it gives her a sense of pride she doesn't feel like she deserves. But she fakes it, of course, and as the stupid blonde-boy intern knocks on her door, she says a stiff "Come in, Sam", before taking off her glasses.
"I don't think I even know who you are anymore, San", Brittany's soft voice breaks the silence of their large living room, taking Santana completely off guard.
"What do you mean, Britt?", she diverts her gaze from her laptop to face the blonde, who she just realizes had been watching a movie alone in the very same living room she was in the whole time.
"I mean that you simply don't talk to me anymore. We talk about Connor, we talk about household thing, but it's been months since we actually had a conversation as two people, not as wives."
"Britt, come on, you know how busy I am"
"Yeah, I do… You know what? Whatever. It's not like you're gonna do anything about the fact that we are growing apart anyway, it's not like you have time for it" The blonde diverts back to the TV and continues watching the movie.
If Santana had been a tad more attentive, she would have noticed the slight frown forming on the blonde's face. Actually, she would have noticed that that same frown had been there for a couple weeks. But she didn't, and she doesn't. She shrugs off her wife's complaint as some momentary drama and gets back to what she had been doing.
Brittany and Connor are having a slow morning at home. It is a Saturday, after all, and they are sitting in the kitchen isle eating homemade breakfast.
"How was your week with you mom, sweetie?"
"It was okay, mommy. Same as always, we played a new Switch game she bought me"
It always gives Brittany a sense of pride when she hears how good of a relationship Connor and San have. As busy as the brunette might be, she always finds time to do things with the boy.
As much as she had been a terrible, insensitive wife, the Latina had undeniably been born to become a mom. Maybe that's the reason Brittany put up with the last two years of their marriage, it felt wrong to take that away from Connor. But, of course, she eventually figured out that you can't feel ignored in a house with no one else, but you can in one with a wife who hasn't talked to you without having to in weeks.
Connor and Brittany cuddle up next to each other on the couch to watch some morning TV, when the blonde hears the last headline she was expecting in that sunny Saturday morning. She picks up the phone and calls Santana right away.
"San, I think we need to talk about our social isolation dynamic"
"Well, we can do what we have always done. I'll make sure I pick him up by car each time"
"That's not gonna do. Have you watched the news today?"
"What? No."
"Well, Connor is right beside me, I don't want to scare him" the blonde says quietly "get some information and please come by the house after work so we can figure out what we are going to do. Bye, San"
"Bye, Britt" she hungs up and immediately checks her news app.
Shit.
