*2013*
"Aaaand we're done!" The Latina said with a a huff as she set the last cardboard box into their new place, "God, Britt, I thought theses boxes would never end!".
The young couple had just bought their very first apartment. After months of looking for something that could fit their budget, they were left almost penniless and had to do the moving themselves. After some initial resistance from Santana, they were finally done in just under three days.
"Come snuggle with me"; the blonde said as she threw herself in their old but comfortable couch. Santana followed her and placed a light kiss on the blonde's cheek as she laid down on top of her. They stayed like that for a couple of minutes, until Brittany broke the silence, "God, I can't wait to tell you any longer"
"What?" Santana said with a puzzled look.
"I think it worked, San"
"What? What worked?" It took her a moment to realize what the blonde was talking about, until it finally hit her. "I'm gonna run to the drugstore to get a test, ok? You stay right where you are!"
Brittany let out a small laugh and nodded "get me a twix too, please!"
She nodded and stood up, putting on a hoodie and mumbling to herself as she left their apartment hurriedly "I can't believe I let her move all those boxes!"
The walk to the drugstore might have been only two blocks long, but it still feels to Santana, as she looks back to that day, as if it had lasted for hours. Brittany and she had been trying to get pregnant for some months, until they realized they couldn't exactly fit a baby into their small one-bedroom apartment and decided to get a bigger place in a safer part of city. Moving out as a young couple buying their first house was so stressful that, apart from the occasional before sleep conversations, they had decided to postpone their plans a little bit.
But as Santana picked every single brand of pregnancy test off the drugstore counter, she felt as if that was one of the first moments of the rest of their lives. She knew that, ok, maybe Brittany was wrong about thinking it had worked, but the new spark of that possibility just woke up her intense desire of being the other mom to her and Brittany's baby. She paid with shaky hands and made her way home, in a pace so fast she was very nearly running.
"Ok, I got every brand they had" She said, placing the plastic bag in the living room table "and I forgot the twix, sorry"
"San, can you calm down for a second? If I am pregnant, the baby is not gonna run off if we take a few minutes before taking the test"
"Ok, Britt, I'm sorry" Santana said, hugging her wife and placing a gentle kiss on her forehead.
"I really do hope I am, San. I really want us to start a family"
They unwrapped every test and Brittany took almost all of them, she had only so much pee in her at that particular time. When the clock announced that all of them were ready, they almost knocked over some furniture as they rushed into the bathroom to check the result. Eight positives.
They stood there, in the middle of their bathroom, hugging each other and crying a little bit. It truly felt like the beginning of the rest of their lives. Both of them had good jobs, they had just moved into the coziest little two-bedroom but, most of all, they had each other. And now they had a little boy or girl too.
"Sam, I am living early, have a family emergency" the Latina said as she exited her office without so much as a glance to the boy. "If anyone needs me, give them my private number"
"Ms. Lopez, I think you should check your email before leaving if you haven't already" Sam said hesitantly "we will all be working from home starting tomorrow"
Santana huffed and checked her phone for her corporate email. There it was. She made her way back to her office to email herself some files she would need for the next few days.
As Santana finally walked out of the building, without talking to Sam this time because 'God, all that boy tells me is bad news', she made her way back to their, well, Brittany's house. The walk there never quite stopped feeling like a walk home for Santana. They had lived some very happy six years together in that neighborhood. Mostly happy anyways.
When she approached the building, the doorman let her in right away, but she always took the precaution of ringing the blonde's doorbell before walking in.
"Hi, Brittany" She said, with a stern face
"You know you don't have to call me that, you know?"
"I think I should get used to it, since you're the one who keeps telling me I am cold to you, I might as well play the part"
"Unnecessary, but I'll let you get away with it. Come in, we have a lot of things to talk about"
Santana followed Brittany into the kitchen, and helped herself to a cup of coffee
"San, I don't think it's safe for us to be out on the street anymore, especially since we have a kid"
"Well, Connor still has school, doesn't he?"
"He doesn't. I just got an email. All cancelled. I'll be working from home, too"
"Yeah, me too" She ran her finger through her dark hair "What are we gonna do about him, then"
"Ok, I want you to really think about this before you dismiss the idea entirely" the brunette nodded so the blonde continued "I think we should isolate together, for Connor's sake. He's gonna be much more scared than necessary if he is apart from one of us for too long."
'Hell. Torture. Angst. Drama.' Santana thought, but managed to keep herself from panicking.
"I don't know, Britt. I don't wanna be apart from him, but I think this could give him the wrong idea"
"Santana, don't underestimate your son. We'll talk to him about it and he is more than smart enough to understand it. We can even sleep in separate bedrooms to make things clearer"
"Ok, Britt. I'm gonna go home tonight and think about it. I'll call you later with whatever I decide"
